God s Word is Life

God s Word is Life Ezekiel 37:1-14, Mark 5:21-43 Memory Verse: And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, Ephesians 2:1 A Valley of Dry Bones The LORD took hold of Ezekiel and carried him away to a valley filled with bones. The Lord led Ezekiel around among the old, dry bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground. Then He asked me, Can these bones become living people again? O Sovereign LORD, I replied, You alone know the answer to that. Then He said to me, Speak to these bones and say, `Dry bones, listen to the Word of the Lord. I the Lord am going to breathe into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Suddenly, as I spoke these words, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as they had been before. Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then

skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them. Then He said to me, Speak to the winds and say: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so that they may live again. Then as I spoke the Word of the Lord, the bones all came to life and stood up on their feet--a great army of them. Then the Lord spoke to me and said, Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. The Lord continued to say that He would open the graves of exile and cause His people to rise again. Then I will bring My people back to the land of Israel. When this happens, My people, you will know that I am the LORD. 1. What did Ezekiel see in his vision? 2. What people were represented by the dry bones?

3. What actually happened to these dry bones? 4. What did God say he would do for His people who were in exile? Jesus heals the daughter of a synagogue leader When Jesus went back across to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around Him on the shore. A leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, came and fell down before Him, pleading with Him to heal his little daughter. She is about to die, he said in desperation. Please come and place your hands on her so that she would be healed and she may live. As Jesus went with Jairus, a group of people followed along pressing on all sides of Him. As He continued along His way, Jesus was delayed getting to Jairus house. There was a woman who was sick and Jesus healed her of her sickness. While He was still speaking to the healed woman, messengers arrived from Jairus' home with the message, Your daughter is dead. There's no use troubling the Teacher now. But Jesus

continued on His way to Jairus house. He looked at Jairus and said, Don't be afraid, just trust Me. Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn't let anyone go with Him except Peter, James, and John. As they came upon Jairus house, Jesus saw much commotion. There were many who were full of grief and they were wailing, for they thought that Jairus daughter was dead. Jesus went inside and spoke to the people. Why all this weeping and commotion? He asked. The child isn't dead; she is only asleep. The crowd laughed in disbelief. They made fun of Jesus statement. He told them all to go outside. Then He took Jairus and his wife along with His three disciples, Peter, James, and John into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand, He said to her, Get up, little girl! And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! Her parents were absolutely overjoyed that their daughter was alive. Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what had happened, and He instructed them to give her something to eat.

5. Why did Jairus plead with Jesus? 6. What did Jairus ask Jesus to do? 7. As they were on their way, what did Jesus say to Jairus when messengers came to tell him his daughter was already dead? True or False 8. Before Jesus arrived at Jairus house, messengers came with some news for Jairus that told him that his daughter was better. True False 9. Why was there a commotion outside of Jairus' house? 10. How did the crowd respond when Jesus told them the child was not dead but only sleeping?

11. Did Jesus bring life back to Jairus' daughter? Let's take some time and recite today s memory verse. 12. Is God s Word powerful enough to do anything?

And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! Her parents were absolutely overwhelmed. Mark 5:42

God s Word is My Delight

God s Word is My Delight Book of Psalms, Luke 8:1, 10:38-42 Memory Verse: I will delight in your principles and not forget Your Word. Psalm 119:16 The Book of Psalms Many authors wrote the books of Psalms. Some of them included Moses, Asaph, and King David. All of these people loved the Lord, and they delighted in God s Word. To delight is to have great joy and pleasure. As a believer in the Lord, you will have great joy as you read God s Word daily. King David was one of the men who loved God. In Psalm 1:2,, David speaks of delighting in God s law, which is His Word. David desired to do everything that the Lord asked of him. He wrote about 70 of the Psalms. Many of the Psalms were used as worship songs unto the Lord. The Psalms are like hymns sung by the Jews. Today, we see how they are used to bring praise to God in Jewish synagogues and even in our own Christian churches. 1. What does the word to delight mean?

2. How did David delight himself in God s Word? 3. What book of the Bible did David partially write? 4. How can you delight yourself in God s Word? Mary and Martha As you continue to feed upon God s Word, you will delight in what God s Word says. God s written Word will bring you a lot of pleasure and great joy. In the New Testament, we see many who loved Jesus. They desired to sit at His feet and listen to everything that He had to say. They truly delighted in His Word. Jesus began to travel throughout the land along with His beloved disciples. Jesus desired to teach about the Kingdom of God. He also performed many different miracles like calming a

storm, healing a demon-possessed man, and even feeding five thousand people at one time. Everyone who experienced these miracles and received Jesus teachings were blessed. As Jesus and His disciples continued, they journeyed towards Jerusalem and stopped at a small village. In this village lived Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. Martha invited Jesus and His disciples into their home. It was Martha s desire to bring refreshment to Jesus. She began the task of getting everything ready. There was much work to do. From the very beginning Mary, Martha s sister, sat at the feet of Jesus. She had much joy knowing that she was going to be taught by Jesus. Mary delighted in His Words. Martha continued to prepare things and saw that Mary continued to sit at Jesus feet. She began to worry about the meal that was being prepared and at the fact that her sister was not helping her in preparing it. Martha commented to Jesus about her sister s behavior. She said, Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to You that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me. But, the Lord

said to her, My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it--and I won't take it away from her. It was not wrong of Martha to make all these preparations. Jesus wanted her to know that Mary had chosen the better, which was to listen to His Words. Jesus desired that Martha, too, would slow down and spend some time delighting in God s Word as her sister was doing. Mary is an example for us, today. There are many good things you can spend your time doing, but it s more important to delight in God s Word. We need to spend more time in God s Word before being busy doing other things. 5. Why was Martha so upset with her sister Mary? 6. Was Mary delighting herself in God s Word? 7. Did Martha stop to listen to Jesus words?

8. Are you too busy to hear God speak? 9. How can you spend time with God? 10. Does God s Word (the Bible) bring you joy?

Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me. Luke 10:40

The Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it-- and I won't take it away from her." Luke 10:41-42

God s Word is Wisdom

God s Word is Wisdom 1 Kings 3:1-28; Luke 2:41-52 Memory Verse: For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6 Solomon Asks for Wisdom Solomon made a pact with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and married one of his daughters. He brought her to live in the City of David until he could finish building his palace and the Temple of the LORD and the wall around the city. At that time the people of Israel sacrificed their offerings at local altars, for a temple honoring the name of the LORD had not yet been built. Solomon loved the LORD and followed all the instructions of his father, except that Solomon, offered sacrifices and burned incense at the local altars. The most important of these altars was at Gibeon, so Solomon went there and sacrificed one thousand burnt offerings. That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you! Solomon replied, You were

wonderfully kind to my father because he was honest and true and faithful to You. And You have continued this great kindness to him today by giving him a son to succeed him. O LORD my God, now You have made me king, but I am like a little child who doesn't know his way around. Here I am among Your own chosen people, a nation so great they are too numerous to count! Give me an understanding mind so that I can govern Your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great nation of Yours? The Lord was pleased with Solomon's reply and was glad that he had asked for wisdom. So God replied, Because you have asked for wisdom in governing My people and have not asked for a long life or riches for yourself or the death of your enemies, I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding mind such as no one else has ever had or ever will have! I will also give you what you did not ask for which is riches and honor! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life and if you follow Me and obey My commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.

Then Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream. He returned to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark of the Lord's covenant, where he sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he invited all his officials to a great banquet. Some time later, two women came to the king to have an argument settled. Please, my lord, one of them began, this woman and I live in the same house. I gave birth to a baby while she was with me in the house. Three days later, she also had a baby. We were alone; there were only two of us in the house. But her baby died during the night when she rolled over on him. Then she got up in the night and took my son from beside me while I was asleep. She laid her dead child in my arms and took mine to sleep beside her. And in the morning when I tried to nurse my son, he was dead! But when I looked more closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn't my son at all. Then the other woman interrupted, It certainly was your son, and the living child is mine. No, the first woman said, the dead one is yours, and the living one is mine. And so they argued back and forth before the king.

Then the king said, Let's get the facts straight. Both of you claim the living child is yours, and each says that the dead child belongs to the other. All right, bring me a sword. So a sword was brought to the king. Then he said, Cut the living child in two and give half to each of these women! Then the woman who really was the mother of the living child, and who loved him very much, cried out, Oh no, my lord! Give her the child--please do not kill him! But the other woman said, All right, he will be neither yours nor mine; divide him between us! Then the king said, Do not kill him, but give the baby to the woman who wants him to live, for she is his mother! Word of the king's decision spread quickly throughout all Israel, and the people were awed as they realized the great wisdom God had given him to render decisions with justice. 1. What did Solomon ask God for? 2. Did God grant Solomon s request?

3. One day two mothers both claimed the same baby. How did Solomon decide whose mother the child belonged to? Jesus goes to the Temple Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual. After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn't miss Him at first, because they assumed He was with friends who were among the other travelers that came with them. But when He didn't show up that evening, they started to look for Him among their relatives and friends. When they couldn't find Him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for Him there. Three days later they finally discovered Him. He was in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, discussing deep questions with them. And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. His parents didn't

know what to think. Son! His mother said to Him. Why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for You everywhere. But why did you need to search? Jesus asked. You should have known that I would be in My Father's house. But they didn't understand what He meant. Then He returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them; and His mother stored all these things in her heart. So Jesus grew both in height and in wisdom, and He was loved by God and by all who knew Him. We have seen how Jesus grew in stature and wisdom. Jesus knew that true wisdom came from God. Those in the temple were amazed at Jesus knowledge of the scriptures. Jesus had clearly demonstrated that spending time with God and in the scriptures had given Him, a boy of 12 years of age, much wisdom. 4. Where were Jesus and His family traveling to?

5. Joseph and Mary thought Jesus was lost. Where did they find Him? 6. Why were the leaders in the temple amazed at Jesus? 7. It was said that Jesus grew in wisdom. How can you grow in wisdom as Jesus did? 8. How can you make the right decisions in your life? 9. If you don t have wisdom what do you need to do?

So God replied, "Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people and have not asked for a long life or riches for yourself or the death of your enemies--i will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding mind such as no one else has ever had or ever will have! 1 Kings 3:11-12

God s Word is Truth

God s Word is Truth Exodus 19:9-20:17, Matthew 4:1-11 Memory Verse: All Your words are true; all Your just laws will stand forever. Psalm 119:160 The Lord Reveals Himself at Mount Sinai The Lord told Moses that He was going to come to him in a thick cloud. He would allow the people to hear that He was speaking to Moses. Moses was instructed to tell the people to purify themselves for a visit from the Lord within three days. He told Moses that the people would be able to see Him come down upon Mount Sinai. Moses instructed the people to observe the boundaries that were to be set. The Lord said, Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or even touch its boundaries. Those who do will certainly die. Stay away from the mountain until you hear one long blast from a ram s horn. Then gather at the foot of the mountain. So Moses went down to the people. He purified them for worship. He said, Get ready, for in two days an important event will take place.

On the morning of the third day, there was a powerful thunder and lighting storm. A thick cloud came down upon the mountain. There was a long loud blast from a ram s horn. The people trembled because they knew that the Lord was about to speak. Moses led them to the foot of Mount Sinai. The entire mountain was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended upon the mountain in the form of fire. The smoke rolled upward into the sky like smoke rising from a furnace. The whole mountain shook with a violent earthquake. Moses spoke to God; and as he did, God thundered His reply for everyone to hear. The Lord called Moses to climb up the mountain. The Lord later told Moses to warn the people again not to cross the boundaries that were set. They were not to see the Lord, or they would die. After this, Moses climbed down and told them what the Lord had said. God instructed the people, giving them the Ten Commandments to follow. 1. What did God give Moses at Mt. Sinai? 2. How can we know what God requires of us?

The Temptation of Jesus Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted there by the Devil. For forty days and forty nights He ate nothing and became very hungry. Then the Devil came and said to Him, If you are the Son of God, change these stones into loaves of bread. But Jesus told him, No! The Scriptures say, `People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every Word of God. Then the Devil took Him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, He orders His angels to protect you. And they will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone. Jesus responded, The Scriptures also say, `Do not test the Lord your God. Next the Devil took Him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed Him the nations of the world and all their glory. I will give it all to you, he said, if you will only kneel down and worship me. Get out of here, Satan, Jesus told him. For

the Scriptures say, `You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him. Then the Devil went away, and angels came and cared for Jesus. 3. What happened to Jesus when He was in the wilderness? 4. How did Jesus respond to the Devil s attacks? 5. What is temptation? 6. How can you overcome temptation in your life? 7. Is temptation sin?

8. Sometimes, the Devil will twist and distort God s Word. What are some practical steps that you can take to know God s Word?

Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted there by the Devil. Matthew 4:1

Then the Devil went away, and angels came and cared for Jesus. Matthew 4:11

Three times the Devil tried to tempt Jesus. Three times, Jesus defended Himself from the attacks by using Scripture. Unravel the lines between the Devil s attack and Jesus answers to find out what Jesus said. Check your answer by looking up the account in Matthew 4:1-11. The Devil said: 1. Tell these stones to become bread. Jesus Said A. Do not put the Lord God to the test. (Deuteronomy 6:16) 2. Throw yourself down (from the temple). For it is written His angels will lift you up. B. Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only. (Deuteronomy 6:13) 3. All (the kingdoms) I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me. C. Man does not live on bread alone. (Deuteronomy 8:3)

God s Word is My Hope

God s Word is My Hope Isaiah 6:1-5, John 13:36-14:6 Revelation 1:9-11, 5:11-14, 21:9-27 Memory Verse: Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:13 Isaiah Sees a Vision of Heaven In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of His robe filled the Temple. Hovering around Him were the worshippers of the Lord, mighty seraphim, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with the remaining two they flew. Isaiah was amazed at all that he saw and heard. In a great chorus, he heard them sing, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty! The whole earth is filled with His glory!" This glorious singing shook the temple to its foundations, and the entire sanctuary was filled with smoke.

Jesus speaks of His departure Simon Peter said, Lord, where are you going? And Jesus replied, You can't go with Me now, but you will follow Me later. Jesus prepares a place for the disciples Jesus said, Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in Me. There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am. 1. What kind of place was Jesus going to prepare for His disciples? 2. Where is this place? John has a vision of Heaven I am John, your brother. In Jesus we are partners in suffering and in the Kingdom and in patient endurance. I was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the Word of God and

speaking about Jesus. It was the Lord's Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard a loud voice behind me, a voice that sounded like a trumpet blast. It said, Write down what you see, and send it to the seven churches. Then I looked again, and I heard the singing of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: The Lamb is worthy--the Lamb who was killed. He is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing. Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They also sang: Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever. And the four living beings said, Amen! And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped God and the Lamb. Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. So he took me in spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me

the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. It was filled with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious gem, crystal clear like jasper. Its walls were broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates. There were three gates on each side--east, north, south, and west. The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them was written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, it was in the form of a cube, for its length and width and height was each 1,400 miles. Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick (the angel used a standard human measure). The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve gems.

The twelve gates were made of pearls--each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. No temple could be seen in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. The nations of the earth will walk in its light, and the rulers of the world will come and bring their glory to it. Its gates never close at the end of day because there is no night. And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. Nothing impure will be allowed to enter here, only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. 3. Where did John receive this vision of Heaven? 4. What was John instructed to do after seeing the vision?

5. What were the millions of angels doing in Heaven? 6. John saw a vision of the new Jerusalem. It measured miles long, by miles wide, by miles high. 7. How many gates are in this city? 8. What are these gates made of? 9. How many foundations does the city have? 10. Who is able to live in this beautiful city? 11.Is your name written on the Lamb s Book of Life? 12. How can you have this hope of one day living with God in Heaven?

So he took me in spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. Revelation 21:10

See, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay all according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:12-13
