Others: And then I heard my Savior speaking One: Draw from My well that never shall run dry. Others: So my neighbor {brother} if the things that this world gives you One: Leave hungers that won t pass away, Others: My blessed Lord will come and save you One: If you kneel to Him and humbly pray: Others: Fill my cup, Lord; One: I lift it up Lord; Others: Come and quench this thirsting of my soul. One: Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more. Others: Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole. All: Here am I, Lord; take me, I m yours! 4 LENTEN BIBLE STUDY 6 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. John 13: 3-5 Let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22 They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. What do you think is the most important scripture in the Bible? Many folks think it s John 3:16. Why do you choose your verse? 2. The hymn, Fill My Cup, Lord, can be taken as a reference to communion, where we not only remember the sacrifice of Christ, but re-member his body. Should we focus more on his sacrifice, or the greatest commandment? { Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12: 29-31} 3. What do you think happens spiritually when we take communion? When we are baptized? Do you believe in the communion of the saints? That we are born sinners or pure creations of God? 4. When God gave the Hebrews water from the rock he was providing for their physical needs; when Jesus promised living water he was referring to our spiritual needs. Do you have enough spiritual water in your life? How can you get more? 5. When you read these verses about early rain, dew from the Lord, streams turning arid land into springs, what does it make you feel? What is the purpose of these images in God s word? He knows we have short attention spans, that our focus is temporal, egocentric. Why not be straight? 6. What was Jesus most important message to us? What does he want us to learn from his life, ministry and death?

6 7. Share your water impressions and discuss what they mean to you. The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? 1 Cor. 10: 16a Lord, not only in the roar of a hard rain, but in the dousing, dipping, drenching of our baptism, call us to live into that new life that is your resurrection.
