1 by Jenny Craiger What Who When Wear (Props) A skit about God using our weaknesses. Three well-known characters in the Bible are interviewed for the job God has in in store for them. Despite their own weaknesses, we know God used them to His own glory, showing how He can use us as well. Themes: Missions, God s power Moses Interviewer Esther David Present day, but Biblical clothing for Bible characters Biblical clothing for David, Esther, and Moses (i.e. shepherd staff, etc), Office desk or table with supplies Paper Clipboard Chair Why 1 Corinthians 1:24-31 How Time Dialogue moves naturally, with pauses in places for dramatic humor. The interviewer is a peppy character. Approximately 5 minutes Skit Guys, Inc. Only original purchaser is granted photocopy permission. All other rights reserved. 2 Moses wanders in, looking lost. Interviewer is sitting behind the desk. (excited, encouraging) So, you re here about the job? Moses: Huh? I said you re here about the job, right? The Big Man sent you? Moses: What job? Right. (Shuffling papers on desk and ignoring Moses confusion). Okay, so let s get this job interview started. Where s that clipboard? (Finds and picks up clipboard and pen from desk). Moses: (confused) Job interview? Look, I was just guiding my flock and came in here for some shade. Ahhh guiding your flock. (making notes on clipboard) I ll put down here you have great experience in leading then! Moses: Experience? Like I said before, you seem to be mis Okay, let s see what other qualifications we have here on this application sheet hmmm how are you with public speaking? Moses: Public Ssssp?! Tttttterrible! Awesome! That s perfect. Moses: (backing up slowly and speaking to self) Something tells me I should make my exit now. Ooooh now you re talking! Someone planning an exodus is exactly what we need. Moses: Look, ma am, I am definitely the wrong man for whatever you need. The Big Man never gets it wrong. Moses: I m outta here! (Running out the door) Ummm cool Moses. (calling after Moses) But if you see a burning bush soon, don t be alarmed! David wanders in looking confused. 2

3 David: Hey, do you have any water around here? I ve got my flock outside and we needed a break. Oh, hey. So you re here for the interview? David: (speaking slowly so Interviewer will understand) Ummm nooooo I was looking for some water. Water of Life got it. (writing on clipboard) The Boss has all you need of that. We re off to a great start! David: Huh? Okay, first question. What s your name? David: David? Uh huh. Okay. And have you any experience in fighting? David: Not really. I mean I killed a bear and a lion, but not really any formal fighting. I tend to my sheep mostly. But look, I don t know why you are asking Oh good, that s great! David: Great? Yes, and so no real experience with the sword, right? David: Sword? Look, I m the youngest of my brothers. If you need a fighter, well, try one of them. I am more at home with a sling shot. Now this is just too perfect! The Boss is really gonna love you! He always likes a challenge (looking down at the sheets of paper). Sooo, when can you start? David: Start? Yeah, well, nevermind. We ll just call you when we need you. Look for the guy in battle armor who is about 9 foot 9 inches tall. David: Okaaaaay. Well, thanks, I think. (backing out as if the Interviewer is unstable and then running off stage) Esther wanders in looking lost. 3

4 Esther: Hi there. I was wondering if you could point me to the marketplace. I kind of got turned around and I need to meet my cousin Mordecai there. Oh, super. (looking up towards the Boss ) Another candidate for a position, I presume? Esther: I m sorry. What did you say? Oh, I wasn t talking to you. Sorry about that. Esther: Uh huh well then (backing away slowly like she is worried about the Interviewer s mental state) I just remembered, I have an appointment across town and Interview: Right, okay. What s your name? Esther: Well, it s Esther, but Okay, Esther. (writing on clipboard) Got it. Tell me a bit about yourself. Esther: Um there isn t much to tell. I m an orphan and Great! (writing furiously and talking to self) Esther: I m Jewish, but it s kind of secret because we re in Persia, so don t write that Uh huh (nodding and writing). I m liking this. So, would you call yourself a rebel, then? Esther: (looking shocked at the suggestion, speaking quickly to convince the Interviewer) Oh no. The exact opposite actually! Esther: So, if you had to do something against the law, like visit the king on behalf of your people or face a foe or? (looks terrified) Uh did you say you were looking for a candidate? This definitely does not sound like the job for me. Super! We will definitely be in touch. Esther: In touch, what do you mean? I just told you No worries. The Boss will know what time to contact you for just such a time that you are needed. (winks at her) 4

5 Esther: But I Bye! Esther wanders out confused, but thoughtful while Interviewer checks the papers on her desk. After Esther s exit, the Interviewer looks up from papers and addresses the audience. Oh, hello there! Are you next? Lights out. Additional/Alternate ending: The interviewer closes by reading or reciting 1 Corinthians 1:
