2 Psalm 22:3 + 2 Peter 2:9 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel (KJV) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

3 WHAT IS PRAISE? True praise consists in a sincere acknowledgment of a real conviction of worth. Its type may be seen in the representation given in the Apocalypse of the adoration of God and of the Lamb, which is inspired by a sense of their worthiness to be adored (Re 4:11; 5:12).

4 PRAISE DIRECTED TO GOD Scripturally, God is the only object worthy of praise by man. His whole creation praise Him Heavenly Hosts (Ps. 103:20; Rev. 5:11) The inanimate or lower unconscious existences (Ps 19:1-14; 148:1-10; Rev 5:13) The scriptures are primarily concerned with the human s duty to praise God.

5 CATEGORIES OF PRAISE Praise is broken down in to basic segments General Praise To exalt God s character (Ps. 43) Specific Praise (Ps. 27) By describing God by title or descriptions

6 THE GROUNDS OF PRAISE God is praise for His inherent characters Majesty (Ps. 104:1) Holiness (Isa 6:3) Who He is God (Roman. 1:21) Most frequently He is praised for His specific works in Creation Providence Redemption

7 MODES OF PRAISE An inward emotion- a gladness of rejoicing of the heart (Ps 4:7; 33:21) A music of the soul and spirit (Ps. 103:1; Luke 1:46) which cannot be expressed adequately by in expression of praises to God (Ps. 106:2; 2 Cor. 9:15) Our mouth strives to express the (music) praises of the heart, (Ps. 51:15) But the spirit of praise which is guided by spirit of song, through the revelation off redeeming awaken love

8 DUTY OF PRAISE Scripture tells us that man s duty is to direct praises unto God To slacking in this duty is to deny from God the glory that belongs to Him (Ps 50:23; Rom. 1:20); it s like unto: Hiding your face from the signs of His presence (Isa 40:26) Overlooking His mercies (Duet 6:12) Unappreciative for His kindness (Luke 6:35)

9 DUTY OF PRAISE So then we should cultivate a spirit and attitude of praise to God By arousing the soul from its spirit of slothfulness and sluggishness (Ps. 57:8; 103:1) By setting our hearts upon God (Ps 57:7; 108:1) Mediating on His works and deeds (Ps 77:11) By recounting His blessings and benefits (Ps 103:2) By the indwelling of His unspeakable gift (2 Cor. 9:15; Rom. 8:31; 1John 3:1)
