2Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 2Co 1:4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2Co 1:5 For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
2Co 1:6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 2Co 1:7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. 2Co 1:8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. 2Co 1:9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Labor to get as full and thorough a recognition as you are able of the providences of God concerning you from first to last. O, fill your hearts with the thoughts of Him and His ways. If a single act of Providence is so ravishing and transporting, what would many such be if they are presented together to the view of the soul. John Flavel, The Mystery of Providence, 1678
Search backward into all the performances of Providence throughout your lives. Labor to recover or to revive the ancient providences of God s mercies many years past and suck fresh sweetness out of them by new reviews of them. Ah, sirs, let me tell you, there is not such a pleasant history for you to read in the world as the history of your own lives. John Flavel, The Mystery of Providence, 1678
It is our duty to keep accounts of our own mercies and how they have been used by us, for we are stewards, and we will give an account of our stewardship. We owe an account, and stand obliged, if there is opportunity for it, to make known to them that survive us what we have seen and found of God in this world, that we may leave a testimony for God with men and bring up a good report upon His ways. John Flavel, The Mystery of Providence, 1678
Deu 1:30 The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, Deu 1:31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.' Deu 1:27 And you murmured in your tents and said, 'Because the LORD hated us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
Deu 7:17 "If you say in your heart, 'These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?' Deu 7:18 you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, Deu 7:19 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So will the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
Jos 4:1 When all the nation had finished passing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, Jos 4:2 "Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, Jos 4:3 and command them, saying, 'Take twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests' feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight.'" Jos 4:4 Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe.
Jos 4:5 And Joshua said to them, "Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, Jos 4:6 that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, 'What do those stones mean to you?' Jos 4:7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever."
