12 COLEL COMMUNITY OF LIFELONG LEARNERS COMMUNITY OF LIFELONG LEARNERS Aaron Krupnick Rabbi Eric B. Clayman President Shari Techner Smith Director of Community Life / Membership Director Alisa Pomerantz-Boro Hazzan Hanina Ruttenberg Executive Director Megan Nachod Early Childhood Director Isaac Furman Rabbi Yaffa Fuchs Educational Director Tamar Barkan Shamir Assistant to Rabbi Krupnick Adult Education at Congregation Beth El CoLeL Chairs: Tami Bogutz Steinberg & Yaffa Fuchs Committee: Donna Bell, Dr. Myra Gutin, Lillian Hassman, Phyllis Pearl, Audrey Pecarsky, Tamar Barkan Shamir, Shari Techner Smith The word CoLeL (ko'-lel) means a collection or a gathering and refers to a group of people who come together to study. Many who study in Kolel (a yeshiva) make it their full time job. Others find a fixed time to sit and learn on a regular basis. But whether one comes everyday or less frequently, the motivation is the same: to be a lifelong learner. That s why we have adopted this name for our own Community of Lifelong Learners. We recognize that the task of Jewish learning is never over, and the rewards of Jewish study are sweeter when we are more mature in our approach. It s never too late, nor too early to broaden the scope of our Jewish knowledge. And so we urge you to carefully consider the collection of options contained herein. Remember the words of Rabbi Louis Finkelstein who said, When I pray I talk to Gd, but when I study Gd speaks to me. "Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. (Proverbs 22:6) This Adult Education brochure is dedicated by Jane Lorber and Haley Cohen in memory of their loving parents and grandparents, Joyce and Arthur Lorber. We are also grateful to the Ruttenberg and Sanders families for their support of our programming in memory of their parents, Sam and Shirley Lukoff, devoted members of our congregation.
