1 Have you ever wondered what students in grades K-12 are engaged in during their High Holiday programs? Would you like to make informed choices about the programs your child/children participate in? Would you like to preview the K-12 High Holiday programs with your child/children to help prepare for the experience? Here s everything you ve always wanted to know right in one easy-to-find document. Please note this document is being ed to you and, if you misplace it, it will also be on the Temple Aliyah website, Top 10 Facts You should know: 1. You must register your child/children in grades K-12 for each of the programs in which they will be participating. You can register on the Temple Aliyah website clicking on High Holiday Youth and Teen Program Registration and completing the forms by September 1, Students should dress comfortably and appropriately. We spend time inside and outside, sitting around tables, sitting in circles on chairs, and working in groups on the floor. 3. Programs begin and end promptly. Please make every effort to have your child arrive on time to each rotation or program and please pick up at the end of the program. 4. We provide gluten-free, nut-free snacks at each program. There is no need to bring food from home. 5. Students are expected to engage in the program that is age-appropriate for them. We ask that you allow siblings of different ages to remain in their respective age groups. This enables us to keep our groups appropriately staffed, with content geared to the specific age group. 6. Preprinted nametags will be available. When students arrive (grades K-12) they should check in and get their nametags that must be worn throughout each program. 7. The decision of whether students participate in the planned programming or attend services in the sanctuary with you is entirely yours. We must insist that students are either in their appropriate program or are with you. Children cannot hang out in other areas of the temple. This is for your child s protection. 8. There are three rotations for each student cohort in grades 2-7. Teens (grades 8-12) have tw orotations. Students in grades K & 1 rotate their activities in a single room. The rotations are meant to engage students in various learning modalities throughout the experience. 9. If your child is in grades 8-12 and wishes to be a madrich or madricha (student leader) in one of the programs for younger children you need to contact Jennifer Rudin, Director of Education, by September 1, The goal of our High Holiday Program is threefold 1.) To build community. 2.) To engage in meaningful prayer experience. 3.) To explore the themes of the holidays through a variety of learning modalities.

Abridged Ne ilah Service Session Descriptions for Rosh HaShanah and Day Kindergarten and 1 st Students will remain in one room with Judi Rapaport. Their High Holiday experience will include holiday stories, songs, games and projects as well as time for snack, shofar blowing and outdoor play. In order to minimize transitions and disruptions to the program s routine we ask that children arrive when the program begins at 10:00 AM and are picked up at the conclusion of adult services or at 1:00 PM, whichever comes earlier. s 2-7 Students rotate between three sessions, in three different spaces and with three different leaders. Students are organized into in two grade level cohorts. Tefilah (prayer) rotation meets in the Chapel. Led by Bill who is comfortable with the nusach (traditional melodies) for Rosh HaShanah and. The students are encouraged to take leadership of the service. With sixty minutes allocated to each rotation, this year we have decided to focus on the Torah Service on Rosh HaShanah and on tefilot (prayers) that are specific to the Yamim Noraim (High Holidays) on. These include the Shofar service on Rosh Hashanah, Al Chet, and Avinu Malkeinu to name a few. The students who plan to actively participate in tefilah have the most successful and meaningful experience in the Chapel. If your child would like to read from the Torah, blow shofar or lead a prayer in either Hebrew or English, please contact Jennifer Rudinbefore September 1. Active Team Building rotation is led by Isaac from Rock On Adventures and Betsy. Isaac encourages students to build bonds and stretch their comfort zone through physical team challenges. This is Isaac s third year with Temple Aliyah for the High Holidays. is a time for students to connect with one another, have a light snack and study the rituals, customs, prayers, Torah and Haftarah portions associated with Rosh HaShanah and. Wilma leads this session.

7 s 9-12 gather under the tents with and Ben. On the first day of Rosh HaShanah and on students will rotate between the Service Tent and the CreativeTent. Between the two service experiences in the tents there will be time to schmooze and catch up with friends. On the second day of Rosh HaShanah, at approximately 11:30, the teens and their leaders will walk to the pond for a Tashlich experience. The students who plan to actively participate in the tents have the most successful and meaningful experience. If your child would like to read from the Torah, blow shofar or lead a prayer in either Hebrew or English, contact before September 1. Erev we all join in the sanctuary for the Prayer. After students in grades K&1 will gather in their classroom with Judi and will enjoy a low key, relaxed time for free play, stories, holiday projects and a bedtime snack. Students in grades 2&3 will join Wilma in another classroom to for conversation, stories, games and quiet play. Students in grades 4-7 are invited to join Jennifer Rudin, and Ben in the Kehilah Room where we will explore the theme Am I My Brother s Keeper: Individual & Communal Responsibility and an abridged Service. Students in grades 8-12 are invited to remain in the sanctuary for the remainder of or to volunteer to assist in one of the programs for younger students. To volunteer please contact by September 1 st. New this year, during Ne ilah, Afternoon, from 5:00 to 7:15 students in Kindergarten and 1 are invited to return to their classroom with Judi to explore the Jonah story. We will provide cheese, yogurt, crackers and fruit for a late afternoon snack. Students in grades 2&3 will join Wilma in another classroom to for their own exploration of the Jonah narrative. Students in grades 4-7 are invited to join and Ben in the Kehilah Room to explore Jonah and the fish, the sea creature, the whale? Dive into the story! and an abridged Ne ilah service. Students in grades 8-12 are invited to remain in the sanctuary for Ne ilah or to volunteer to assist in one of the programs for younger students.
