6 Preface J. HE CURRENT VOLUME bears a two-year date so that in future, volume numbers will coincide with years: Volume 76 appearing in 1976, and soon. Accurate knowledge of the location and holdings of Judaica collections is indispensable for Jewish studies. Charles Berlin's "Library Resources in Jewish Studies in the United States" presents comprehensive information about the important Judaica collections in the United States private and public, in Jewish and non-jewish institutions based primarily on an extensive inquiry he conducted. Dr. Berlin also discusses the nature and growth of Judaica collections; problems of financing and staffing; sources of supply; methods of preservation, and bibliographical services. Milton R. Konvitz's memorial of "Horace Meyer Kallen: Philosopher of the Hebraic-American Idea" gives an account of the forces that shaped Kallen's attitudes and an analysis of his philosophy as a reflection of his growth throughout a long, fruitful career. It records the transmutation of Kallen's "anti-clericalism and agnosticism" into "Jewish secularism, Jewish culture, Zionism, Hebraism, and cultural pluralism." "Jewish Multicountry Associations," by Ernest Stock, deals with their origins, membership, and functions. An Appendix lists agencies according to goals, structure, membership, and mode of operation. In "The Jewish High School in : Status and Trends," Hillel Hochberg presents and analyzes survey findings about enrollment; the professional experience and academic credentials of staff and administrative personnel; formal and informal curricula; school finances, and tuition fees. The essay on the literature of Jewish public affairs, which was to appear in this volume, will be published next year. We deeply regret the death of Edgar Bernstein of Johannesburg, a
