Hopefully it will be a good, healthy and relaxing one for us all. One of the most important concerns I have when leading/facilitating a service is how I can make this prayer experience a meaningful, educational, and spiritually uplifting time. I rarely plan what I will do during a service anymore. Rather, I try my best to get a sense of the congregation and how best to "reach" and "involve" them. As with many teachers, I know my text books, how to use them and I know various methods that can help make teaching more effective. However, what needs to be evaluated every service is the make-up and needs of the congregation. That is the piece I try hardest to understand in order to be effective. As a teacher, I have been most satisfied by the commitment from Jen and Dan Galarza and Sherry and Wayne Greenstein-Himle to come to an Adult Education class this past year on Sundays from 10:50-11:40. We discussed various topics, including, most importantly, cultivating a deeper Jewish home life. Our class will continue during the next school year and certainly encourage others to join us. On Friday, July 10, we will meet for a Shabbat Family service. We will discuss ways in which we can all cultivate a deeper Jewish family home life through the rituals of our Friday evening Shabbat traditions. There are many approaches one can take to developing meaningful Jewish home practices. Hopefully, we can share and explore what works and what does not work so that each of us can come away with some ideas and practices which are worth exploring at home as a family.

This means that YOU, as a Temple member can renew or join BJ's at the discounted rate of $20 for being a member of Temple Emanuel. Send an to Robbie Levine at rl740@aol.com and she will issue a statement of membership which you can bring to BJ's for group membership status. If you are renewing at mid-year the rates will be prorated. Arlene and Marion would like to say thank you to everyone who worked toward making our first annual Flea/Craft Market a success. At the risk of missing someone's name in our thank you list, we decided to offer our gratitude to everyone from those who prepared the food stand, worked the food stand, created and printed flyers, sold raffles, made and hung signs, publicized the event, prepared the beautiful "fun in the sun" raffle basket,vendors and shoppers and to many more. We will be sure to send a personal thank you card to the Navin Skating Rink of Marlboro for allowing us to use their parking lot free of charge for the day. We look forward to your support again next year. We are working on securing a date at the Navin Rink. 4 Page 4 Volume 11 Issue 1 Dear Congregants, The lazy days of summer are upon us, but not here at Temple Emanuel, because we have been very busy. On that note, I would like to thank Arlene Lemieux and Marion Rabinowitz for organizing a very successful fundraiser on Sunday, June 7th at the Temple Flea Market. I would also like to thank Stuart Jacobs, Edna Fine, Stan and Caron Berman, Michael Aisenberg, Arthur Gould, Bob Davis, Alan Moskowitz, and Cathy Fortin among others for their efforts in making the Flea Market run so smoothly. On Friday, August 21, our service will revolve around the theme of Rosh Chodesh Elul, the new Jewish month of Elul. This month leads us to Rosh Hashana, one month later. We will discuss our lunar/solar calendar and explore how the month of Elul can be used to lead us to a more fulfilling Rosh Hashanna. The Temple Board has also been busy preparing the calendar and budget for next year and the School Committee and Arlene have been working diligently on exciting plans for the upcoming school year. Have a wonderful summer. On behalf of the entire temple community, I would like to express our appreciation to Rabbi Barry for a wonderful first year as the religious and spiritual leader of Temple Emanuel.
