1 FISHBURN BOOKS JUDAICA LIST May PH: FAX: ANGLO-JUDAICA, ARMY-RELATED, COOKERY BOOKS, YIDDISH AND OTHER TREATS The Anglo-Jewish Historical Exhibition, 1887 Royal Albert Hall. [ITEMS 1-3] The Anglo-Jewish Historical Exhibition, presented in 1887 at the Royal Albert Hall in London was the first major exposition organized to further interest in the preservation of Jewish art and artifacts. The plan to organize the exhibition grew out of a campaign to save the historic eighteenth-century Spanish and Portuguese Bevis Marks Synagogue. Over 2,500 ritual objects, antiquities, graphics, documents and books were included in the landmark presentation, amassed from some 345 lenders. The ultimate mission of its planners went beyond historic preservation to a political agenda of dispelling prejudice against Jews and gaining recognition for the role Jews played in English society. (from Grace Cohen Grossman Jewish Museums of the World, pg.213)
