39 Chapter What difference did Jesus describe between a shepherd and a sheep in verses 1 2? In Bible times, the shepherd would create a home for the sheep by dragging thick thorn bushes into a circle, to create a fold or corral around the sheep. But he would leave an opening so the sheep could get in and back out the next morning. Then the shepherd would lay down across the opening to sleep at night, literally becoming the door to the sheepfold. If a bear or wolf approached the barrier, the thorns of the sheepfold would prick them. But if they were persistent, they could nose around until they actually found the door. Many shepherds were found dead at the entrance of their sheepfolds. And this is exactly what Jesus actually did for us. The Good Shepherd laid down His life for the sheep. Jesus said that He was the Door of the Sheepfold. There is only one way to enter this house He is preparing for us, where we will dwell forever, and that way is through Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd.
