1 [ FUTURE LESSONS FOR TODAY S LIVING THE BOOK OF REVELATION DEDUCTIVE LESSON SEVENTEEN Revelation 15:1 16:6 Day One: Verses 1 3a 1. What did John see in verse 1? 2. What else did John see (verse 2)? It is ironic that those who were persecuted and killed by Antichrist have victory over the beast. Far from victims, they are victors! 3. Verse 3 says that they sing the song of Moses, and the song of the Lamb. Today let s look at the song of Moses, and tomorrow we will examine the song of the Lamb. The song of Moses is recorded in Exodus 15:1 18 and was sung by the children of Israel after they crossed safely through the Red Sea and the Lord vanquished their enemies. Read through the song of Moses and, as you read, write down 3 5 phrases from this song that apply to the singers in Revelation, or that are particularly interesting to you. 1

2 Scripture Memory: This week s Scripture Memory verse is Revelation 15:3b. Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Revelation 15:3b Day Two: Verses Read the words of the Song of the Lamb, in verses 3 4. There are five words used to describe the Lord, His works, and His ways. What are they? 2. Without the help of a dictionary, write a brief definition of each of those five words. 3. Verse 4 tells us the reasons why they sing. What are they? 4. All of the nations shall come and worship before you (verse 4). In Romans 15:9 12, Paul compiled many Old Testament prophecies on this topic. Read those verses and record what you are thinking. 2

3 5. In Psalm 18, David sang a song that is similar to the Song of the Lamb. Read verses of that psalm and write down the reasons for his song. Revelation :3b Day Three: Verses After these things, what did John behold (verses 5 6)? 2. Then what happened, in verse 7? 3. Read verse 8. The smoke (or cloud) that filled the temple is symbolic of God s presence, power, and glory, and is seen in several Old Testament references. Read these references and summarize what happened in each. Exodus 40: Kings 8:1 14 3

Revelation :3 Day Four: Revelation 16: A loud voice from the temple told the seven angels to pour out their bowls of judgment on the earth. What happened when the first angel poured out his bowl? 2. What happened when the second bowl was poured out, and what was the result? This third bowl judgment was just like the second, but affected the freshwater of the world. You will recall that the second and third trumpet judgments rendered one third of the sea and one third of the freshwater on the earth undrinkable, but these two bowl judgments affect the remainder. What will people drink? Some speculate that the digging of new wells or tapping into the mountain snow packs or polar icecaps will allow the remaining population to access water. In the meantime, their thirst will undoubtedly drive men to drink the only resource available blood. Is this cruel and unfair? Not according to the angel of the waters. What did he pronounce about these bowl judgments? 3. Today s bowl judgments are similar to the plagues of Egypt. Read Exodus 9:8 12 and describe what happened. 4

5 4. Now Read Exodus 7:17 21, 24 and summarize that passage. 5. Note Pharaoh s reaction in Exodus 7:23. We will see in next week s lesson (Revelation 16:9) that the people of the earth experiencing these bowl judgments will have the same response. Scripture Memory: Fill in the missing words from memory. and are Your, Lord God! and are Your, O King of the! : Day Five This week we looked at the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb. Today, you will write the lyrics to your own song. It should include: the things God has done for you, the theme of deliverance and salvation, and the proclamation of His attributes and character. The length of your song is entirely up to you, but your entire lesson time should be used to compose your song. It is not something you will have to share with your group, but at the same time, you should be unashamed of the message contained in your song, just as the children of Israel and the redeemed tribulation believers were unashamed to sing their song. Don t worry about a tune; just focus on your lyrics. 5

6 Scripture Memory: Write out the entire Scripture Memory verse in the space below. : Day Six: Personal Application 1. Though the Antichrist is given the power to persecute, and even kill, the tribulation believers, he does not have victory over them. Revelation 15:2 says that they have victory over the beast! In the same way, we are victors over our enemy, because of what Christ has done for us. We stand victorious in Jesus. List some things over which you have victory. 6

7 2. The angel of the waters proclaimed that those who are forced to drink blood are receiving their just due. As a Christian, we enjoy the benefits of grace, and sometimes take for granted that we have completely avoided our just due. We deserve judgment and condemnation just as much as those who will be drinking blood in the last days and we are saved from such a fate only by the grace of God. Let this thought sink in, and write down a short prayer in response. 3. This week, we read about the times when the temple was filled with the smoke of God s presence, power, and glory. Remember that your body is now the temple of God. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill your temple with His glory. 4. Pray again for the three individuals you have previously identified. Pray that instead of being forced to drink the blood of God s judgment, they would instead drink from the fresh living water of God s mercy. Write their names or initials below.
