8 LABYRINTH EXPERIENCE Prayer labyrinths are an ancient form of prayer that invite our bodies to participate in the prayer process as we follow a path that mirrors the winding and circuitous journey of faith. There are many different ways to pray and walk the labyrinth. Just remember to follow the path and pray. Shiloh s labyrinth available when the building is open for the season of Lent. Here are a few methods we recommend: Seeking Forgivness Start your journey to the center with confession (you may want to visualize your sins being left behind with every step you take). When you reach the center, journey out with affirmation (perhaps visualizing yourself picking things up or putting things on like the righteousness of Christ, the smile of the Father, the purity of the Holy Spirit, etc.). Pause at the exit and give thanks for your cleansing journey. Burdens Lay down your burdens as you walk to the center of the labyrinth (perhaps laying down pebbles along the way as symbols of your worries or cares). In the center, pause to thank God for taking your burdens on himself (1 Peter 5:7). Then count your blessings and give thanks on the journey to the exit. Breath Prayers Recite and repeat a breath prayer as you navigate the labyrinth. A breath prayer is just a short phrase form scripture that is repeated and echos in our soul. Perhaps you can repeat one prayer all along your journey or change prayers as you go into different sections of the labyrinth. Lord, have mercy. - Psalm 123:3 Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. - 1 Samuel 3:9 My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. - Psalm 121:2 Here I am. - Isaiah 6:8 Show your power. - Psalm 68:28 When I am afraid, I will trust you. - Psalm 56:3 Not my will, but yours. - Luke 22:42 Bring your kingdom. - Luke 11:2 Come, Lord Jesus. - Revelation 22:20 Listen for God Ask God a question as you enter the path. Then, as you walk slowly through the twists and turns, listen for an answer. Let your steps and your silence invite the presence and guidance of God. FINGER LABYRINTH If you cannot walk the Labyrinth, or want to do this past the season of Lent, try printing out a Finger Labyrinth to experience this type of prayer Shiloh Lent Devotional 8
