2 Course/Module description: This course investigates significant encounters between the two cultures in the fields of philosophy, hermeneutics, psychology, medicine and law. Course/Module aims: The course at familiarizing the students with central texts and idea as well as training the students to identify similar cultural encounters in other historical contexts. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: The students will be able to analyze texts independently and identify traces of encounters with Hellenism. Attendance requirements(%): Attendance is required in all the sessions Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Discussion of key texts in class; reading of secondary literature at home. Course/Module Content: Class 1: War or peace between Judaism and Hellenism Classes 2-4: New literary genres in Judaism: theater, novel and fable. Class 5: The historiographic revolution. Classes 6-8: The new felling of the self. Classes 9-11: New directions in biblical exegesis. Class 12: Echoes of Alexandrian gynecology Class 13-14: Innovations in the realm of law.
