View the latest excavations and discussion on Jewish Political morality in light of the story of David and Batsheva. Walk through the newly opened tunnel from the Second Temple Period used by the rebels in the Great Revolt. Exit at Robinson s Arch. Explore the Southern Wall Excavations to gain a better understanding of the centrality of the Temple and pilgrimage in ancient times. Standing at the Kotel -Reflections with Rabbi Kligler Ascend to the Jewish Quarter for lunch break (on own) and shopping time in the Cardo. Time at leisure. This Israel Museum is open 4-9pm on Tuesdays. Tuesday January 31 WHAT PRICE FREEDOM? Early morning departure for the Dead Sea Region, lowest point on earth En route, optional photo op with Shushi the camel at the Sea Level marker. Continue to Herod s mountain fortress of Masada. Ascend by cable car to explore the site and contemplate why the Jewish rebels chose to live here after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. Descend by cable car. Lunch break (on own) at the Visitor s Center. Enjoy floating in the Dead Sea at one of the hotel spas in Ein Bokek (swimming pool and other facilities). Return to Jerusalem for dinner and evening at leisure. 1

2 Wednesday February 1 SHOAH TO TEKUMAH We learn and remember at the Yad Vashem Memorial Comples, including visits to the historical museum, Children s Memorial and Sculpture Garden. Learn more about the father of modern political Zionism at the multi-media Herzl Museum. Tour of the Hartman Institute followed by a session with Noam Tzion: The Ethics of War in the Jewish Tradition Explore the vibrant Machaneh Yehuda fruit & vegetable market. Lunch (on own) and free time. Encounter with artist Avner Moriah at his studio and home in the Jerusalem suburb of Har Adar.. Friday February 3 CREATING COMMUNITY Depart Jerusalem for the area of Modi in, where the Maccabees lived. Guided tour of the Neot Kedumim Biblical Nature Reserve including tree-planting ceremony. Return to Jerusalem for lunch break (on own), some free time and to prepare for shabbat. Meeting with the inspiring Rabbi Sharon Shalom, an Ethiopian rabbi whose congregation is made up of Holocaust survivors and Russian immigrants in Kiryat Gat.
