REVELATION CHAPTER 19 The King Is Coming Introduction (verse 1-6) The King is coming; How will it all end, has been the great question for ages, every body seems to want to know. Even the none believers in Hollywood, are still producing the DOOMS DAY movies, the destruction of planet earth; and go on denying God s simple plan for the ages, for they do not go on to try to tell the rest of the story. Yes there will be a great battle, and great destruction, yes there will be great loss of life, but they do not tell, And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect s sake those days shall be shortened. (Matt. 24:22) They do not tell that the Church, the believers in Christ, will be raptured out seven years before the greatest battle of all the ages, and not have to go into great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, nor ever shall be. (Matt. 24:21) and spend eternity, in heaven, with Jesus our Blessed Saviour. They do not tell that all those that receive the mark of the beast, and refuse Christ, will face the KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS (in the mount of slaughter), Armageddon and after the thousand year reign of Christ, will again face the Lord at the great white throne judgment, to be cast forever with out hope in the lake of fire, in a place called Hell!! Here in our studies of Revelation, we are now ready for chapter 19, in chapter 17, we seen God use the ten (horns, Rev. 17:16) kings to assist antichrist in the destruction of Mystery Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots, and Abominations of the Earth, the world religious system of the first 3½ years of the tribulation period, For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will. (Rev. 17:17) In chapter 18 we seen the destruction of the city Babylon, also representing the world political, economical system, Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. (Rev. 18:8) In chapter 19, we will see the final destruction of Satan s short-lived kingdom, his world military system, And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he Treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (Rev. 19:15) But there is much more to tell of chapter 19, first let us look at God s righteous judgment. The Righteous Judgment (verse 1,2) 1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (Rev. 19:1,2) After these things; The first three words of chapter 19, after what, we ask ourselves. After the complete destruction of Babylon, the kingdom of Satan s antichrist, his religious system, his political economical system, his military armies having been destroyed at the battle of Armageddon, and now we see heaven rejoicing because of God s judgment on her. 188

(Verse 2) tells us that true and righteous are his judgments. And yet in all of God s judgments we see His Grace, in looking back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham pleaded with the Lord six times, he said, Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (Gen. 18:25) and we see His righteous acts, Lot and his family safely out of the city, and harms way before the judgment fell on Sodom, and the Judge of all the earth did do right, for it was right to see this family safely out, it was a righteous act, it was an act of Grace. We see again through God s grace, that He is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish. (II Peter 3:9) In (Rev. 18:4) we see God s cry for his people to come out of Babylon, the world, so they will not have to be judged. But we also see here again that God s people cannot expect their sin to go unjudged. Lot s wife turned again to the world, looking back to Sodom, after being told not to look back, and she became a pillar of salt, Lots wife paid for her disobedience with her life, sin has a price. The next thing we should be mindful of is that this Judgment is brought by man s sin, (verse 2) tells us, for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth, she has corrupted the people of the world into idolatry, they have received the mark of the Beast, and worshipped the antichrist, they have brought sin against God, Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Ex. 20:3) Man chooses, either to accept God s ways, or he chooses to follow his own, the way of the flesh. The greatest thing God ever gave man, other than the gift of His Son, is choice, we are created in His image, and for those who are saved we have the holy spirit of God dwelling in us who will guide us to righteous acts that are pleasing to the Lord, but it is up to us to make the choice, God can not make man repent, man must choose. Let us look at (Deut. 30:16-19) God says, (verse 19) I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. God wants to bless you, God wants to save you, you must choose this day whom you are going to serve, Choose life. Thuss we see the righteous judgment of God. The Hallelujah Chorus (verse 1-6) 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. (Rev. 19:3-6) Heaven Rejoicing Here we have heavens greatest praise word, used for the first time in the New Testament, it has been used twenty-four times in the Old Testament. And now it is used four times here in chapter 19 of Revelation. Nowhere else in the New Testament can this word be found. The word alleluia is the Greek form of the Hebrew word, hallelujah, which means, Praise the Lord. The Holy Spirit has reserved it for this occasion, the Lamb s victory over the harlot, and His marriage to the bride, the church, who has made her-self ready arrayed in fine linen. The first occurrence of this word, alleluia, in the Old 189

Testament corresponds with its usage as that of its first usage in the New Testament. We first find it in (Psalm 104:35) Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more, Bless thou the LORD, O my soul, Praise ye the LORD. The Four Hallelujahs: We see here the word alleluia used four times, (vs. 1,3,4,6) (1.) The first time here in verse 1, we hear a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, alleluia; a great multitude in heaven, but who are these praising God? In (verse 2) we are told, For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, (her unfaithfulness to God) and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. Avenged the blood of his servants, this first alleluia is sung by those who suffered at the hand of the wicked woman, Mystery Babylon the Great, of chapter 17, the united world religious system of the first half, 3 ½ yrs. of the tribulation period, the martyrs of that period. The first alleluia was for the destruction of the great whore by God, For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will. (Rev. 17:17) (2.) The second alleluia we find in (verse 3), it also is sung by the same multitude we saw singing the first alleluia in heaven, those who had suffered at the hand of antichrist in the last 3 ½ yrs of the tribulation period, for we are told in ( verse 3), And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever. The smoke here speaking of the God s judgment on the city Babylon at the end of the tribulation period The second alleluia is for the destruction of the city Babylon, where it tells us in (verse 3) her smoke rose up for ever, could not be said of mystery Babylon, but only of a city, the city Babylon. Note: The difference of opinions, between Heaven and earth, of God s retribution on the city Babylon. In Revelation chapter 18 we saw the judgment (destruction) of the city Babylon, in (vs. 9), kings of the earth bewail and lament her, in (vs. 11) merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, But in (vs. 20) at the destruction of Babylon, we read Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. What the kings and merchants of the earth weep and mourn over, heaven rejoices at God s righteous judgment. (3.) The third alleluia is found in (verse 4) where we see the Four and twenty elders and the four beast fall down before the throne of God and worship him, saying Amen; Alleluia. We see the raptured church and the four beast at the end of the tribulation, praising God for his righteousness, saying Amen agreeing with and praising God for the fulfillment of His promises, He is the Amen, Praise the Lord. (4.) The fourth Alleluia is found in (verse 6). But look at (verse 5), there we see a voice coming from the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye servants, notice the word all for then it is that John says, And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia, we see the combined heavenly hosts, the martyrs, the church, the four beast, all the heavenly hosts, as the sound of many waters and mighty thunder, sing Alleluia, But when we look at the end of (verse 6) we see the reason for their celebration, for the Lord God reigneth. The rule of man has ended, and the Lord Jesus has taken 190

His rightful place in Jerusalem on his father David s throne. The King of Kings will rule with an iron rod, and righteousness. The Hallelujah Chorus, what a song, what a crescendo, a song that gains strength unto the end, this starts out with the martyrs of the tribulation, praising God for the destruction of the woman, (Mystery Babylon) and then for the destruction of that city Babylon (Satan s political-economical system) and then, we the church, those who are saved, been born again, joined with the four beast, sing in agreement to God s righteous judgments, and then this great song ends with all of heaven praising God for the end of man s reign on earth, for now the time has come for God s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven Hallelujah, Praise the Lord. The marriage of the Lamb (verses 7-10) 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Rev. 19:7-10) Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come. What a blessed time it is for those of us today, living in the last days of this dispensation. I say blessed, for we are blessed to have the complete Word of God, and to see the prophecies of the church age all have come to pass with the exception of the finial days of the Laodicean church age which began nearly a hundred years ago. We have the blessing of being able to see the foreshadows of the relationship of Christ and his bride, the marriage of the Lamb. We can see it in Old Testament types such as Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob, Joseph, those who received their bride from a far land, even as Joseph received a gentile bride. The Song of Solomon is a book of the Bible that all should read or keep in mind the content when reading or even thinking of the marriage of the church to Christ, for it is an inspired song of the love of the church for Christ, during his absence in the heavenlies, looking forward to the time they would be together; how she longs for her beloved, in chapter three she says, By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. Now it is time, for the marriage of the Lamb is come. The Time and Place of the Marriage: Many questions have been asked as to where and when the wedding of the True Christ and the true church would take place, and not all agree as to the time and place. But after looking at these seven thoughts on the marriage of the Lamb, I believe the marriage to take place in heaven, for we see in (Rev. 19:14) the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And we see in (Rev. 19:8) the bride arrayed in fine linen, before the return to earth with her Lord. So then when does the wedding take place? The exact time is hard to say, but there are some things we do know about the time of the wedding, and one is, it will be after the judgment seat of Christ, for we are told in (verse 7), Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made 191

herself ready, she hath made herself ready. Somewhere between the rapture of the church, (Rev. 4:1) and the casting out of Satan, the great dragon which deceiveth the whole world, (Rev. 12:9) {app. 2 yrs. into the tribulation period} the judgment seat of Christ has taken place. (I Cor. 3: 12-15) tells us that what we have been building on here today will be tried by fire, what we did for Christ; all wood, hay, and stubble, those works done in the flesh and not from a pure heart of love will have been burned away, and only the gold, silver and precious stones remain. As we see in (Eph. 5:27) the ready bride stands, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So we can see the wedding cannot take place until after the judgment seat of Christ for the believers. A fitting time might be after the destruction of Satan s false bride on earth at the middle of the week 3 ½ yrs. into the tribulation period. So we can see that somewhere between the bride making herself ready, and before the second coming of Christ with his saints at the revelation, (Rev. 19:14) the wedding must take place before the bridegroom takes his bride away for the honeymoon, and we see the bridegroom taking his bride away, back to the place where he gave himself for her, that they may reign together for a thousand years, (Rev. 5:10; 20:4-6). Note: There is no one to give the bride away, for Christ presents her to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Eph. 5:25-27) The Bridegroom: Who is the Bridegroom? In the parable of the marriage of the king s son, (Matt. 22:1-14) we see the bridegroom is the King s Son. The Lamb is Jesus here in (verse 7), in the gospel of John, John the Baptist said in (Jo. 1:36) Behold the Lamb of God. In (Jo. 3:29) John the Baptist speaks of Jesus as the Bridegroom, and himself as the friend, who rejoiced to hear his voice. But Jesus himself spoke of being the Bridegroom, (Matt. 9:15) when John s disciples asked him, 14 Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft. But thy disciples fast not? 15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. The Bride: Who is the Bride is the question for some. There are two Brides mentioned in the scriptures, one in the Old Testament, and one in the New Testament. First we must look and see the difference between the wife of Jehovah, and the bride of the Lamb. The nation Israel is said in (Isaiah 54:5-8) For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of host is his name; so we see the nation Israel as the wife of Jehovah. In (Jer. 3:6-14, 15-18) we see that God had promised to take her back, when she ceased from her adulterous ways, again in (Ezek. 16:1-59) we see her, (Israel s) unfaithfulness, but in the rest of that chapter we see that the Lord takes back his wife, He will remember His covenant. Again in (Hosea 2: 14-23) speaking of Israel, the adulterous wife to be restored. So we see the nation Israel cast off as a wife because of her unfaithfulness, but God has promise to take her back when she cease from her adulterous ways; but because of her adulteries, she will be taken back as a wife, and not as a virgin, so we see that Israel can not be the Bride that is spoken of here in (Revelation chapter 19:7,8) for we see here 7b his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 192

It is a virgin that is to be the Bride of the Lamb, it is the Church that is to be His Bride, for she has been true and faithful unto Him, She hath made her self ready. What is meant here his wife hath made herself ready we see in (verse 8) that it, was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. It is natural to ask the question when and where does the Church clothe herself? We see here in (verse 8) the fine linen that she is clothed in, is the righteous acts of the saints, this is not the righteousness that has been imputed to one who has just received Christ, for it is (plural) righteousness of the saints; but the works that are done for the Lord from a pure heart of love and devotion towards Him. It is the trial of your faith, that we see in (I Peter 1:7) being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried by fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. It is not until after all of her false works are removed by fire at the Judgment Seat of Christ, (I Cor. 3:11-15) that she is clothed and made ready, that she, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. Every spot, every wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Eph. 5:27) Dr. Lehman Strauss writes; Has it ever occurred to you, that at the marriage of the Bride to the Lamb, each of us will be wearing the wedding garment of our making? The Blessed: (verse 9) some claim that there are two companies mentioned here, one being those who have heard the call of the Holy Spirit in the age of grace and become members of the body of Christ, the Bride, which is true to an extent, but a bride needs no invitation, for she has her proper place there, for there could be no wedding without her. The Guest here are the believers from the Old Testament unto the day of Pentecost where the birth of the Church took place; (Jn. 3:29) as John the Baptist spoke of himself as the friend of the bridegroom, the Church and the Bride of Christ are one and the same. The Marriage Supper: is not the wedding itself, it is the supper, the celebration that follows the wedding, some believe the wedding feast to be held here on earth after the return of Christ with his bride, but I believe not, but in heaven, for that time will be the honeymoon where the groom takes his bride away, back to the place where he gave himself for her, after the ceremonies of heaven have been completed, there they will reign together for one thousand years. (Rev. 5:9,10; 20:6; 22:5) The Effect upon John: (verse 10) John tells us he fell at the angel s feet to worship him; we can not imagine the effect upon John, all that he had been shown was so overwhelming that he fell at the feet of the angel who was guiding him, but we see the quick Rebuke of the Angel, the angel says, see thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, he tells John worship God, John knew that the worship of angels or servants of God was wrong, for in (Col. 2:18) Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping angels, in (Heb. 1:14) we are told speaking of the angels, Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? we see them as servants and messengers, and we see in (Acts 10:25,26) 25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself am a man. We are to worship God, not angel or man. The Old Testament gives us the same instructions, (Ex. 34:14) For thou shalt worship no other god. (II Kings 17:36) Worship the Lord who brought you out of Egypt, 193

(Psalm. 45:11) for he is the Lord; and worship thou him, Jesus said in (Mat. 4:10) Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Jesus The Spirit of Prophecy: (verse 10) Here at the end of verse 10, we have the key of all prophecy; there would be less confusion if one would note as it is stated here for the testimony of Jesus, testimony, the witness of Jesus, is the spirit of prophecy, spirit, the breath or life of all prophecy, His promises purpose, and plans for the ages, is all about Jesus. The Second Coming (verse 11-16) 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev. 19:11-16) (Matt. 24: 29-31) 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Heaven Opened: (verse 11) John says he he saw heaven opened, in (Acts 1: 9,11) nearly 2,000 years ago the apostles watched the Saviour as he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. And in (verse 11) two angels told them, this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. We have read throughout the New Testament, and even 14 Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. (Jude 14,15) we have read of the promise of His coming to bring judgment upon this ungodly Christ rejecting world, and to establish His righteous Kingdom here on earth, and here in chapter 19, we read of the time of his coming, Oh, what a day this will be, a day of darkness (Matt. 24:29), a day of lightning, a day of thunder, a day of earthquakes, great hail (Rev. 16:17-21; Zech. 14:4;) (Rev. 11:19) And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were Lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail. In (Rev.6:2) we saw a rider on a white horse come forth after the church had been raptured out, in his hand a bow, on his head a crown. This is the false Christ, the antichrist, promising peace, but it is a false peace, one that requires the works of man and idolatry, not of grace. 194

Now John sees heaven s door open, for the return of the true Christ, the rider on the white horse that John now sees, we are told in (verse 12), His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; we see here the one John saw in (Chapter 1:13-18) standing in the midst of the seven candlesticks, THE SON OF MAN as magistrate and judge, He comes to the place of his rejection, to the place where he shed His blood, for you and for me, whereby he made it possible for us to be qualified 12 to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Col. 1:12,14) He returns to the place of his rejection, to reestablish the throne of David and rule over the earth for one thousand years. (Ps.2; Isa. 11; Dan. 2:44; I Thess. 1:7-10; Luke 1:32) The Rider on the White Horse: (verse 11) Let us look at some of the descriptions of the rider. (1 st ) His Name, when we looked at the rider of the white horse in chapter 6, there was not given a name, but here we are told, he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True. The next thing we see here in (verse 11) is, (2 nd ) He Brings Righteous Judgment, for we are told, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. It is right for him to bring an end to man s rule here on earth, a rule that denies the Son of man and salvation by grace through Him, one that offers a religion of works and idolatry, it is right to put an end to the persecution of God s people, it is right for God to fulfill His promises to Israel. It is right for Him to make war on those who oppose Him, for they have shed the blood of saints and prophets for they are worthy, (deserving) His judgment is righteous and true. (#3) His Appearance: Here in (verse 12) tells us that, His eyes were as a flame of fire, now where have we seen this description of Christ before? In (Rev. 1:14) we have the same description in John s vision of the one standing in the midst of the seven candlesticks, this is the One who John saw in the Patmos vision, girded about the paps with a golden girdle, (verse 13) the insignia of the magisterial office of a judge. As we have said of verse 11 He comes to bring righteous judgment, OH let us look at John s vision of chapter one again, 1. His Head and His hair, (vs. 14) speaking of omniscience, experience, dignity, eternality. 2. His eyes, (vs. 14b.) were as a flame of fire, speaking of His omniscience-all knowing, a flame consumes all consuming. 3. His feet, (vs. 15) Brass, a reminder of the brazen altar where the sin offering was made, speaking of judgment, sin will not go unjudged. 4. His voice, (vs.15b.) speaking of the terror of His judgment. 5. His Hand, (vs. 16) God holds His servants, and places them where He wants them to shine. 6. His Mouth, (vs. 16b.) speaking of the sword of justice, His judgment, by His Word and Righteousness. 7. His Countenance, (vs.16c.) speaking not only of blessing, but also of judgment the sun can burn as well as bless. 195

So we see here in (verse 12) His eyes were as a flame of fire, speaking of His Omniscience all seeing, all knowing, and as a flame of fire, speaking of His righteous judgment, a flame consumes. We see next in (verse 12), on his head were many crowns, he wore many crowns, (diadema) the symbol of kingly or imperial dignity, and is translated diadem instead of crown, this is not like the crown of the rider on the white horse in chapter 6, who brought false peace, and was given a (Stephanos, speaking of a victors crown). Jesus will be coming as King of Kings, He will be wearing many crowns, he has the right to these, he has bought back the lost estate, and now He comes and rightfully claims what is his. In (verse 13) speaks of His clothing; And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: verse 13 tells us that his vesture was dipped in blood, whose blood is this upon his vesture? Some have thought it to be the His own blood that he shed on Calvary! Some have thought it to be the blood of his enemies; Let us look at (Isa. 63: 1-6) for the answer. 2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? 3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: (first advent) for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. (second advent) 4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. We can plainly see here this blood is not his own, but that of his enemies. Look at the contrast of his first and second advent, the first time he came he was crucified on the cross, and said Father forgive them, but the second time he comes, is the day of Christ s vengeance on his enemies. He will, Reward her even as she rewarded you, (his own) and double according to her works: (Rev. 18:6) He has come to free his people from the dictatorial rule of antichrist, For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. (Isa. 63:4) (4 th ) He is followed by the armies of heaven: (Rev. 19:14) Who are the armies of heaven? We are told in verse 14, that the armies that followed him were clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And in (verse 8) speaking of the Bride of Christ, it states, And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. So we can see that the heavenly armies can be none other than that of the church. We see here also the fulfillment of Enoch s prophecy where we read in (Jude 14,15) 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. So we see here the church accompanying Christ back to earth, where He will bring an end to the rule of man, and set up the Kingdom reign, where Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. (Matt. 6:10) Note: (verse 14) states the armies of heaven, followed him upon white horses, and (verse 11) tells us that Christ himself will be setting upon a white horse, many laugh at the thought of coming with Christ on a white horse, thinking there are no horses in heaven; Do you believe that Christ and the church, His Bride, will be coming back to earth on white horses? Why not, the Bible does tell us of horses in heaven. 196

(II Kings 2:11) There appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, (II Kings 6:13-17) Elisha asked God to open the eyes of his servant, and he saw, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. The last time Jesus came to Jerusalem he came riding on the colt of an ass. (Matt. 21:2-11) as prophesied in (Zech. 9:9), where he was rejected as king, and thereby offered him-self a sacrifice for sin; but now He comes riding on a white horse to establish his kingdom and take his rightful place on the throne of David. (5.) The Sharp Sword: (verse 15) tells us, And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, Let us look at (Isa. 11:4) and it says, with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And in (II Thess. 2:8) And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming. I believe that this sword is, the Word that proceedeth out from His mouth; That with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. This judgment will be a supernatural judgment, a judgment that will come from the Word at His coming, and the fulfillment of the prophecies of (Pm. 2:1-3), where it says, 1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. These kings and rulers that take counsel against the Lord can be no other than the ten federated kings that are following the antichrist, the beast, and the false prophet, (Rev. 16:13,14) for they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. They gather together to once and for all, to put an end of the threat from above, they will not allow the Lord to take away their freedom from religion, freedom of mans way, but look again at (Pm. 1:9) Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter s vessel. (Rev. 19:15c) He treadeth the winepress. So we can see here the sword is the righteous judgment of Christ. The judgment that will be given as He reigns, and executed at His return. (Isa. 11:1-5) which speaks of His source of power, the sevenfold spirit, and the character of His reign, 4 with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth. (6.) (Verse 16) He comes as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, This time when our Lord comes, it won t be a matter of accepting or rejecting Jesus as King or Lord, it will be to late for that, Jesus comes to claim what is rightfully His. Time has run out for the world, for antichrist, for those who have rejected Christ. Just as if Christ were to come today for His Bride the church, for those outside of Christ and have heard the Gospel, it would be to late, they will be left behind to face the tribulation, 11 and for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, (the gospel) but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (II Thess. 2:11,12) Let us look at The Written Names referring to the rider on the white horse, for three times in this description of the rider on the white horse, there is something mentioned about his name. 197

(1.) First we see in (verse 12) it says, he had a name written that no man knew, but he himself. A name that no man knew; it is a name that no man can know, for it speaks of the Deity of God, which no man can express. The third commandment, (Ex. 20:7) Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Even God s chosen people understood the essential Deity of God, to the point they were afraid to make mention of His name that they might break this commandment, knowing that there were no words for man that he might express the fullness of God. (2.) The second place we find mention of his name is in (verse 13) and his name is called The Word of God. His name here speaks of Christ as the expression of God, look in (John s gospel chapter one, verses 1,2,14) we see here that the Word was in the beginning, the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and in verse 14, the Word was made flesh and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father. (3.) And the third time here in (verse 16) it tells us that on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Here speaking of His relationship to the nations of the earth, and people of the earth, saying I Am your KING, no more will man selfishly rule, secondly, I AM the LORD, thou shalt have no other gods before me, no more Babylonism, no more religion of the works of man. (Rev. 11:15) The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. And (verse 16) it says, And the four and twenty elders, (the church), which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God. For He alone is worthy of worship! Jesus came the first time and paid the sin debt for man, now He comes to claim that which rightfully belongs to Him. The Battle of Armageddon (verse 17-19) 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. (Rev. 19:17-19) So far here in chapter 19, we have discussed The Righteous Judgment of God, we have heard The hallelujah Chorus, we have viewed The Marriage of the Lamb, The Second Coming, the rider on the white horse, and now when we come to the battle itself, there is very little said here in chapter 19, Why? Because there is so much said about this battle elsewhere in the Scriptures. (Verse 19) states, The beast and the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. Then in the next, (verse 20) it tells us, And the beast was taken, and the false prophet that wrought miracles before him These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. We can see here that this battle will be short lived, for it will end as suddenly as it begins, with the appearance of Christ. Lets look at some scriptures that give us a view of this battle. The Place: (Rev. 16:16) And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. The place, Armageddon has been well established in the scriptures. The dimensions of the battlefield stager the mind of man. The battlefield 198

will stretch from the North, (Zech. 12:11; Rev. 16:16) In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. And to the South, (Isa. 34:5,6) Idumea, speaking of Edom, and (Isa. 63: 1-4). We have here a distance of a thousand and six hundred furlongs, (Rev. 14:20) It s length, a distance of app. 200 miles. It s width will be from the Mediterranean Sea to the West, to the hills of Moab on the East, a distance of app. 100 miles. And in the center of the battlefield, will be Jerusalem, (Zech. 14:1,2) 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. For now we see through the scriptures the size and place of the battle field, 200 miles by 100 miles wide, with Jerusalem in the center. The Time: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matt. 24:36) Though no man knoweth, through scriptures we can establish some certainties of the time of this battle, (Zech. 14:1-4; Matt. 24:29-31; and Rev. 1:7). The time will be at the second stage of the Second Coming of Christ, for at the first stage of His coming, the church meets Him in the air, (I Thess. 4:16,17), and at the second stage of His coming, the Lord Jesus Christ will step foot on this earth, to claim His throne in Jerusalem, where He defeats the beast and his armies, there after to set up His Kingdom. The Participants of the Battle: (verse 19) who will be there for the battle? (Zech. 14:2) I will gather all nations against Jerusalem, (Isa. 34:1,2) For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, (Rev. 19:19) And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him, So we see here All, the nations of the earth on one side, gathered together for battle; against who? They have come to do battle with the Lord, for in (verse 14) it says, And the armies of which were in heaven followed him (Jesus) upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. The beast has, through the 13 three unclean spirits like frogs, (Rev. 16: 13,14) 14 go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. These unclean spirits persuade the kings of the nations, to come and battle the Lord and his armies. These three unclean spirits speaking of the satanic trinity, Satan s armies on one side, and the Lord, and His armies on the other. The Reason for the Battle: Let us look at some reasons for this battle, what will it be that draws all the nations of the world to this area? (1.) One reason will be the because of the Sovereignty of God, there are several passages of scriptures that tell us that God himself will gather all nations to this battle, (Isa. 34:2; Joel 3:2; Zech. 14:2; Zeph. 3:8; and Rev. 16:16) And he gather them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. (2.) Because of their hatred towards Christ; In (Rev. 11:18), it tells us that, the nations were angry, in (Ps. 2:1-3) 1 Why do the heathen rage 2 The kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord, and his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, (Band referring to halter, restraint) and cast away their cords from us. (cords, speaking of, chain, hold on, root word of pervert) saying they are angry with the lord, for trying to convert them to the ways of truth and right, sinful man wants no part of God, he wants to do what is right in his own eyes, he wants to go his own way. (3.) It will be a religious war: It will be a religious war led by the beast and his federation armies, in his attempt, to dethrone God, as we just saw in (Ps. 2:2) where the kings and rulers take counsel against God, and his anointed, and in (Dan. 11:36) it says, 199

the king, speaking of the beast, he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods. The word (magnify) means that through his pride he will twist, make larger, and promote himself above God; the word (marvellous) means incomprehensible, incredible blasphemies against God. And in (II Thess. 2:4) how the man of sin, Who exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. The Brevity of the battle: The battle itself will last but a short time, in (Zech. 14:3,4) it says, 3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and in (Joel 2:11,30,31; 3:11-16) 2:2 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that excuteth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? and in 3:16 The Lord shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: All the Lord has to do is to utter a word; and the sword of his mouth will destroy his enemies. The battlefield is set, then suddenly its over, there will not be a war, as we know of wars, at this war there will be just a word spoken from him that sits on the white horse. A word from the one who spoke a word to the fig tree, and it withered away, a word from the one who said, peace be still, and the great storm became a great calm, He spoke to a legion of demons tearing at a poor man s soul and they instantly fled; He now speaks one word and the war is over. (II Thess. 2:8). In (verse 19), the beast and his armies are ready for battle, and in (verse 20) the beast and false prophet are cast into the lake of fire. The Winepress: (verse 15) he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. we also have a view of the day of the Lord in (Joel 3:12-14; Rev. 14:14-20) in Joel 3:13 it says, 13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe, and in 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision; In our lesson here of chapter 19:15 the treading of the winepress, the same as the reaping of the harvest of the earth, as seen in (Rev. 14:15); for (verses 17-19) we see the reaping of the vine of the earth. Just as Jesus is the True Vine, the antichrist is the vine of the earth. So we see the treading of the winepress in two parts, the antichrist receives his rewards, and the earth-dwellers, his armies who have followed him and received his mark are cast into the winepress of the wrath of God. The Supper of the Great God (verse 17-21) 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. (Rev. 19:20,21) John says I saw an angel standing in the sun; summons all the fowls that fly gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God. That you may eat the flesh of kings, flesh of captains, flesh of mighty men, flesh of horses, flesh of all men, both free and bond, (slaves) small and great. We see here A Great Contrast to that of the marriage supper of the Lamb of (verse 9). In verse 9 it tells us blessed are they which are called unto the marriage 200

supper of the Lamb, but here in (verses 17,18) all the birds that fly in the heavens are invited to partake of the dead bodies of the armies of antichrist that had been killed in the judgment of the rider on the white horse who smiteth the nations with the sword, word, of his mouth. The Doom of the Beast and False Prophet (verse 20) We read in (verse 19) that the beast and his armies are gathered to make war, and here in (verse 20) it says, a the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet. c these both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. There are three things we must see here. (1.) Satan will exit from the person of the antichrist, before antichrist is seized and cast into the lake of fire, for in (Rev. 20:2,3) the dragon,(satan), is bound and cast into the bottomless pit for a thousand years. (2.) Antichrist and the false prophet are men and not a system. For they are cast alive into the lake of fire, a system cannot be thrown into a lake of fire. We also see in (Rev.20:10) that after the thousand years is ended, Satan is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and false prophet are, they are still there, in the lake of fire, and in torments. (3.) The Old testament gives account of Two men who were taken to heaven without tasting death, Enoch, and Elijah, and we see here that antichrist and the false prophet will be cast into the lake of fire alive, without dying, for (verse 20) states These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. The Doom of the kings (ten horns) and their armies, The remnant, (verse 21) And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceedeth out of his mouth: So great will be the destruction and loss of human life as never before from any battle to this day, that God hath prepared in advance for the fowls of the air, to clean up the battlefield. Their flesh devoured by the fowls of the heavens. and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. Conclusion What have we seen here in chapter 19? When we look back through our study of this chapter, the first thing we see is, The Rejoicing in Heaven, The Hallelujah Chorus, all of heaven rejoicing for the righteous judgment of God, (vs. 2) for Satan s world system has come to an end, the rule of man has come to an end, for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. We see a marriage in heaven; The Church, the Bride is now married to Jesus the bridegroom. The judgment seat over, his wife has made herself ready, arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, she is clothed in the garments of her own making. We see the Second Coming of Christ: Heaven opens and we see Jesus setting upon a white horse followed by the armies of heaven, the church His bride for they are clothed in fine linen, white and clean. The armies of heaven follow Jesus back to earth for the greatest battle of all the ages, the battle of Armageddon. The Battle of Armageddon: let us look briefly at the chronology of the battle. We can go back to (Rev. 16:12) at the pouring out of the Sixth Vial, where we see the great river Euphrates dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. For as long as man can remember, the Euphrates river and its tributaries have been a natural boundary to separated the people East of it, from those West of it, even Solomon s 201

kingdom had at one time extended to it s banks, now this boundary has been removed and the three unclean spirits have persuaded the kings of the earth, to invade and destroy, once and for all God s people and His land. We can find in the scriptures, the destruction of Jerusalem, one of the saddest events of the tribulation period, Oh how God loves Jerusalem, Oh how God s people love Jerusalem, Jesus laments over Jerusalem, (Luke 13:34) for this is where the prophets have been killed. Jesus foretold the destruction of Jerusalem in (Luke 21:20) And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation there of is nigh. And in (Zech.12:2) Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. (Zech. 14:2) For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. We see Satan s coalition has covered the land of Israel, and now they are even in the city, to take spoils of her. What will happen next? I believe that the angels of heaven and the demons of Hell well hold their breath for what is to come, for in (Rev, 8:1) at the opening of the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. It will be at this time that the skies over the battlefield well become darkened, for there has been A call to the supper of the great God, (verse 17) tells us, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; Every fowl that can fly has been called to the battlefield, such a number that the skies have become darkened, just soaring overhead, waiting for their feast. The armies will stop and tremble at the site of them and realize that their doom has come, for they remember of how God used the fowl of the air and the beast of the field to clean the battlefields of invaders from the North just seven years before. (Ezek. 38:15-20; 39:2-5) I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. (Ezek.39:4) Now they remember how God called the fowls of the air and the beast of the field to clean the battlefield, just seven years before, and now they have come again, to feast and to clean the battlefield. How soon man forgets; how soon man forgets God s goodness, we seen how soon man forgot God after the flood, Nimrod, (Gen. 10:10) the fourth from Noah, tried to build his own kingdom (Babylon) with a religion of works, Babylonism, a religion that man is still trying to work out today. And even today in America, how soon seemingly have they forgotten Then it is time, for they see a bright light coming through the darkness of the fowls gathered over the battlefield, the light becomes brighter and brighter, until they see, heaven open and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. And then it is over, Satan s armies destroyed, with one word, with the breath of God. (Zech. 14:12) tells us, And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. And in (II Thess. 2:8) we are told, And then shall that wicked (Lawless one) be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (Rev. 14:20) And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horses bridles, by the space 202
