1 BABIES 5s FALL 2015 LEADER GUIDE RONNIE FLOYD GENERAL EDITOR GOD S PROMISES TRUSTING GOD Kids

2 A note from Jeff Land, Publishing Team Leader Fall 2015 begins our third year of Bible Studies For Life: Preschool. I can hardly believe it has been that long. As you prepare to teach these sessions to the kids in your church, we are busily preparing for your curriculum next year. We have a few changes in store, but we ll tell you more about those later. The first unit in this quarter is titled God s Promises. As you share stories related to the life of King David, I encourage you to think about all of the promises that God has made and kept. Help kids to know that God s promises are perfect. He never fails. Preschoolers trust their parents, their teachers, and family members. They learn to trust by the example of people meeting their needs. During this unit, you will help preschoolers learn that they can trust God because He is constantly meeting their needs. Help preschoolers learn that God is trustworthy through stories of Old Testament people. I m so thankful for the opportunities I have had as team leader for Bible Studies For Life: Preschool over the past few years. I have a great team of editors and designers. We thank you for your loyalty, and we appreciate your feedback. Thank you for doing God s work in your church by leading kids to Him each week. Need additional lessons or ideas? 4 CONNECT the unconnected STRENGTHEN families DISCIPLE PEOPLE with wisdom CHRIST COMMUNITY CULTURE Bible Studies For Life: Preschool and Kids will apply the Christ-Community-Culture framework through the administration of the Levels of Biblical Learning. Each unit of study in preschool and kids materials will be assigned one or more of the 10 concept areas identified in Levels of Biblical Learning: Jesus, God, Holy Spirit*, Self, Community and World, Salvation*, Bible, Creation, Family, and Church (*grades 1 6). Levels of Biblical Learning was born out of a need from children s ministry professionals to have a clear, concise plan for teaching kids about God in an age-appropriate way. At every age level, kids will be encouraged to gain a progressively deeper understanding of the 10 biblical concepts. Leaders and parents continue to express profound appreciation for an understanding of this outstanding framework. 4

5 Sharing the Gospel with Parents The word gospel means good news. It is the message about Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation. Use the following guide to share the gospel. GOD RULES. The Bible tells us God created everything, including you and me, and He is in charge of everything. Invite a volunteer to recite Genesis 1:1 from memory or read it from his Bible. Read Revelation 4:11 and Colossians 1: WE SINNED. Since the time of Adam and Eve, everyone has chosen to disobey God (Romans 3:23). The Bible calls this sin. Because God is holy, God cannot be around sin. Sin separates us from God and deserves God s punishment of death (Romans 6:23). GOD PROVIDED. Read John 3:16 aloud. God sent His Son Jesus, the perfect solution to our sin problem, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve. It s something we, as sinners, could never earn on our own. Jesus alone saves us. Read Ephesians 2:8-9. JESUS GIVES. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. Because Jesus gave up His life for us, we can be welcomed into God s family for eternity. This is the best gift ever! Read Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; or 1 Peter 3:18. WE RESPOND. We can respond to Jesus. The tool below helps us remember how to respond when prompted by the Holy Spirit to the gift Jesus offers. Admit Believe Confess Admit to God that you are a sinner. The first people God created chose to sin and disobey God. Ever since then, all people have chosen to sin and disobey (Romans 3:23). Tell God you messed up and you are sorry for doing your own thing and turning away from Him through your thoughts, words, and actions. Repent, turn away from your sin. (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9) Repent doesn t just mean turning from doing bad things to doing good things. It means turning from sin and even from your own good works and turning to Jesus, trusting only in Him to save you. Believe that Jesus is God s Son and accept God s gift of forgiveness from sin. You must believe that only Jesus can save you and you cannot save yourself from your sin problem not even by praying to God, going to church, or reading your Bible. Your faith or your trust is only in Jesus and what He did for you through His life, death, and resurrection. (Acts 16:31; Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9) Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Tell God and tell others what you believe. If Jesus is your Savior, you are trusting only in Him to save you. Jesus is also Lord, which means He is in charge and calling the shots in your life. You can start following Him and doing what He says in the Bible. You are born again into a new life and look forward to being with God forever. (Romans 10:9-10,13) BIBLE STUDIES FOR LIFE BABIES 5s 5

You might also name Franklin D. Does outward appearance guarantee Roosevelt, Susan B. Anthony, Dwight D. a person has the qualifications for Eisenhower, and Martin Luther King Jr. leadership? Why or why not? So, what makes a person a great leader? Is it his intelligence? Is it her physical appearance? Is it his courage? These are all important qualities of a good leader. Leading God s people in a church requires an even more important characteristic being called of God. For decades God had raised up divinely inspired judges to be His earthly authorities. The people of Israel begged God s prophet, Samuel, to give them a king like other nations had. Finally, God approved their request and chose Saul.
