John 15:5,7 -PRAYER BRINGS SPIRITUAL PROTECTION 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 -WE MUST BE PERSISTENT IN PRAYER Luke 11:5-8 -PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES GOD S HAND IN OUR WORLD AND HELPS BRING PEOPLE TO FAITH IN CHRIST. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 -PRAYER SHIELDS US FROM WORRY AND ANXIETY Philippians 4:6-7 -PRAYER BRINGS GOD S EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HEALING. James 5:13-16

4 James 4: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

5 1. LACK OF HARMONY OR PEACE WITH MATE, & OTHERS. 1Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

6 1 Corinthians 7:5 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

7 Matthew 5: Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

8 2. LACK OF PRAYER James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, ye have not, because ye ask not.

9 Matthew 6:7-8 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

10 3. SELFISH AND WRONG MOTIVES. James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

11 Matthew 6: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

12 James 4: Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

13 4. PRIDE James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

14 Proverbs 6: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

15 Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

16 Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

17 -It's my pride that makes me independent of God. It's appealing to feel I am the master of my fate; I run my own life, I call my own shots; I go it alone. But that feeling is my basic dishonesty. I can't go it alone. I have to get help from other people, and I can't ultimately rely on myself. I am dependent on God for my very next breath. -It is dishonest of me to pretend that I am anything but a man, small, weak and limited. --So, living independent of God is but self-delusion. -It's not just a matter of pride being an unfortunate little trait and humility being an attractive little virtue, it's my inner psychological integrity that's at stake. -When I am conceited, I am lying to myself about what I am. I am pretending to be God, and not man. My pride is the idolatrous worship of myself, and that is the national religion of hell. -Unknown

18 5. A SHALLOW & UNHOLY WORSHIP 1 Peter 1: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Cf (Leviticus 19-20)

19 Isaiah 1: To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD : I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. 12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

20 13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. 14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

21 15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. 16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

22 17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD : though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
