4 Wednesday January 25, 2017 Nehemiah s Prayer Answered Nehemiah 2: 1-8 A. Nehemiah sent to Judah. I. The month Nisan (Abib) is the first month of the Hebrew religious calendar. It correlates to the modern months of March April (Ex. 12: 1-2). II. Four months after hearing the report from his brother concerning Jerusalem, Nehemiah was still grieving over the conditions in Jerusalem (Ver. 1). III. The King noticed Nehemiah s sad expression and concluded that sorrow of heart caused it, rather than physical illness. IV. Nehemiah related to the burden of his heart to the King (ver. 3). VI. Nehemiah had come into the presence of the king, he had never left the presence of the true King (ver.4). VII. After his silent prayer, Nehemiah spoke boldly, asking for permission to leave the King s palace to travel to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls (ver. 5). VIII. In responding to Nehemiah s request, the King might have had Nehemiah executed on the spot; or he might have dismissed Nehemiah with a laugh (ver. 6). For our next week lesson, read I King chapter 18. Our lesson will be from verses
