SPA MON TUES WEEK 1 Read Chapters Study questions should be completed at the end of the week. Read Chapters 1-4. On his way to Damascus to persecute the followers of Jesus, Saul, an important Pharisee and leader in the Jewish religion, is knocked off his horse by a bright light. Jesus speaks to him, telling him it is He whom he has been fighting. Saul is struck blind and his companions take him to Damascus to wait for instructions. Saul is converted, and Jesus sends Ananias, a good Christian, to cure Saul of his blindness. Saul preaches in the synagogue and tells of his conversion. Some of the Christians do not trust him. He then goes to the desert, works as a tentmaker, does penance, and tries to decide what God wants him to do. In the desert God reveals to him the mysteries of Faith. Believing God wants him to preach, he returns to Damascus. The Jews in Damascus do not trust him and do not like that he is preaching salvation for Gentiles, also. When he is told there is a plot to kill him, he decides to return to Jerusalem. Saul has a fiery temperament, which is not changed by his conversion, but redirected. His friends help him escape by letting him down over the wall in a basket. When he arrives in Jerusalem, hoping to find friends among the Christians, they don t trust him, and his old friends among the Pharisees call him a traitor. Finally, when he has almost given up hope, Barnabus, a follower of Jesus, comes to him and takes him to the Apostles. When Peter hears about Saul s conversion, Peter welcomes him and invites him to his house. Read Chapters 5-8. Saul wants to know everything Our Lord did when he was on earth, and Peter takes him around, showing him all the places they went, and tells him everything he knows about Jesus. Saul is made a priest and bishop while he is in Jerusalem, and then goes around preaching and teaching about Jesus. Many of the Jews become angry with Saul because he preaches that Jesus came to save all people, not just the Jews. Saul stirs up so much trouble that the Christians tell him to leave Jerusalem. They are afraid of greater persecution. While Saul is in the temple praying to stay in Jerusalem, Jesus appears to him and tells him to leave Jerusalem and preach to the Gentiles. Paul is happy to leave because it is Jesus that has told him to go. However, not knowing where to go, he ends up in his hometown of Tarsus, working again as a tentmaker. He studies and prays for guidance for five years. Barnabus comes to Tarsus and gets Saul to go to Antioch with him. They are very successful in Antioch, and Saul gives Barnabus credit for their success. They celebrate the Sacrifice of the Mass with Jews, Syrians, Greeks, and Romans. They help widows and orphans, and show how the love of Jesus makes them all one people. When they find out that there is a famine in Jerusalem, they go there with contributions from those in Antioch. They are well received there and take Mark, Barnabus nephew, with them when they return to Antioch. Barnabus and Saul are St. Paul the Apostle JJ1 Rev. 2/19/2009

WED THUR chosen to be missionaries, and Mark is to accompany them. Barnabus is the leader and chooses to go to Cyprus. While in Cyprus the Roman governor, Sergius Paulus, wants to hear about Jesus. Barnabus decides that Saul should be the one to talk to the governor because of his Roman background. It is then that Saul and Barnabus change Saul s name to Paul, a Roman name. Paul greatly impresses the court in Cyprus, which angers the court magician, Barjesus. Paul blinds him because he is trying to stop him from preaching. Read Chapters After Paul blinds Barjesus, the governor of Cyprus converts. The missionaries leave Cyprus and shortly afterward Mark becomes homesick and leaves to go back to Jerusalem. The missionaries are disappointed in his desertion. In Antioch of Pisidia the Jews become angry with Paul and Barnabus and call them blasphemers because they say no one has to follow the law of Moses any longer, because of Jesus. They quit preaching to the Jews and turn to the Gentiles. They make many converts, which angers the Jews. They are able to turn the Romans against Paul and Barnabus so they are flogged and banished from the city. They offer up their sufferings without complaint and go on to Iconium where they make many converts and are once again chased away by indignant Jews. From there they go to Lystra, an area that is populated with simple-minded pagans who think Paul and Barnabus are gods like their pagan gods. Lois, her daughter Eunice and Eunice s son Timothy are their support in Lystra. While preaching in Lystra, Paul cures a crippled man, which causes the whole crowd to worship Paul and Barnabus as gods. It becomes known that Jews from Iconium are there and trying to cause trouble for Paul and Barnabus. Their friends do not want them to continue with their mission out of fear for them. They are unafraid. Timothy is very impressed by the courage of the two men and wonders if he could be like them. At night Barnabus returns, but Paul doesn t. A recent convert comes to the door and explains that the Jews from Iconium have had Paul stoned to death outside the city gate. They go and find Paul, who has been badly injured but is still alive. Paul is taken back to the home of Lois and Eunice where it is decided he should leave for Derbe as soon as he recovers. Although Timothy is very young, he is allowed to go with Paul, as he wanted to. Paul s recovery is very slow, and Timothy thinks he will never be able to preach again. He is weak and has scars from the stoning on his face. One day he makes a convert, and when Timothy asks how it is possible, Paul explains that it is through his suffering and obedience to the Will of God. When Paul recovers enough to go with Barnabus on preaching trips, Timothy knows that it is a miracle. It is decided that Paul and Barnabus will return to Antioch, and to his delight, Timothy will go with them. Read Chapters When they arrive in Antioch and Barnabus tells of all the converts they have made and the sufferings they have endured because of it, there is great rejoicing. When some Pharisee converts come from Jerusalem, they cause huge problems because Paul has told the Gentile converts that they do not have to follow the Old Law of the Jews. The Pharisees say it was blasphemy. Because of this, Paul, Barnabus, and Titus, a young convert of Paul s, return to Jerusalem to settle the problem with the Apostles. It is decided that the Gentiles do not have to follow the Old Law. This meeting is called the Council of Jerusalem. Paul and Barnabus return to Antioch and gain many new converts. Then Peter visits and is delighted to see the spread of the Faith. He eats and drinks with the Gentiles until Pharisees come from Jerusalem. Then Peter, in order to keep from offending them, refuses to eat and celebrate Mass with the Gentiles. Paul becomes furious, and when Peter does not relent, he lashes out at him in public. He reminds him of the decision of the Council of Jerusalem. Peter, who is the Pope, finally listens to Paul and backs down, thus admitting that all people are the same in the eyes of the Lord. Paul and Barnabus decide they should return to the St. Paul the Apostle JJ2 Rev. 2/19/2009

FRI other places they have been to encourage the converts there. Paul refuses to take Mark along because he has deserted them before, so Barnabus refuses to go with them. They go separate ways; Barnabus with Mark and Paul with Silas. Paul and Silas return to Lystra where everyone is happy to see him. Timothy has matured and done much for the Church. Paul and Silas ordain him and he goes with them on their missionary work. In Troas the three meet Luke, who is to accompany them wherever the Lord sends them. In a dream, Paul is told to go to Macedonia, which he and the other three do. Lydia, a new convert, lets them use her home in Philippi as headquarters. In Philippi there is a slave girl, possessed by the devil, who was forced by pagan priests to tell the fortunes of passers by. Paul miraculously chases the evil spirit out of her. This angers the priests, who then charge Paul and Silas with being traitors. They are convicted and ordered to be beaten with rods and then imprisoned. Read Chapters and answer Study Questions. Paul and Silas do not complain when they are chained in prison and in great pain, but they hear the cursing and complaining from other prisoners. They are sad the others do not know the value of suffering, so they sing a hymn and the other prisoners calm down. Then an earthquake occurs and all are set free of their chains. The warden is about to kill himself when Paul stops him by saying they are not escaping. The warden is so impressed that he takes the two to his quarters where they stay with him, and all in his household are baptized. In the morning the magistrates say Paul and Silas are to be set free. Paul refuses to accept it because they are Romans citizens and had been publicly flogged and imprisoned without a trial. He says the magistrates have to come and let them out themselves. The magistrates are very worried when they find out Paul and Silas are Roman citizens and that they have had them publicly flogged and imprisoned without a trial. They can lose their positions or even be killed because it is against the Roman law to do such things to Roman citizens. They give Paul and Silas protection and allow them to preach freely without fear. The decision is made that Paul, Silas, and Timothy will go to Thessalonica, and Luke will remain in Philippi to take care of things there. In Thessalonica they stay with Jason, a man who owns a textile factory. They work for him, and for three Saturdays they go to the synagogue and Paul preaches to the Jews and the Greeks in attendance. When he gets to the part that Jesus is the Messiah Who has been prophesied in the Old Testament, the Jews call him a blasphemer and chase them out of the synagogue. They continue to preach in Jason s house and make many converts. The Jews stir up trouble, but the Christians find out about it and the missionaries hide before the authorities arrive. Jason is charged and fined. It is decided that Paul, Silas, and Timothy will go to Berea. They sneak out of town at night to avoid being caught. They are doing fine until troublemakers arrive from Thessalonica intending to kill Paul. He is sent to Athens, but Silas and Timothy remain there. Paul is excited about going to Athens because it is the center of art and culture, but when he arrives, he is very disappointed. They are totally uninterested in what he has to say. He sends for Silas and Timothy to help him. When he sees the Greeks altar To the Unknown God, he becomes excited. He decides to tell them Who their unknown God is. The leaders of Athens invite Paul to speak to them, but when he talks about the Resurrection of the dead, they think he is crazy. Their pride will not allow them to believe what an outsider has to say. However, a small group comes to Paul and he makes a few conversions before moving on to Corinth. He is excited about Corinth because it has two busy harbors, and converts can take the news back home with them. He becomes friends with Aquila, a tentmaker, and his wife, Priscilla, who he converts. Silas and Timothy come from Thessalonica with good reports about the Christian community there. There are some problems there, which Paul decides to address in a letter, in order St. Paul the Apostle JJ3 Rev. 2/19/2009

to instruct, console, and encourage the Christians there. His letter to the Thessalonians is part of the New Testament. Three months later he writes another letter to the Thessalonians because they are being persecuted. Paul s enemies in Corinth spread lies about him and drag him before Gallio, the governor who, realizing Paul s innocence, dismisses the charges. Paul decides to go to Jerusalem to pray for Gallio and all of his friends. Paul, Silas, Aquila, and Priscilla leave with him. Aquila s business has declined because of his friendship with Paul. Aquila and Pricilla stay in Ephesus, and the others go to Jerusalem and pray. Very shortly, it becomes evident that the Jewish converts will make trouble for Paul, so he decides to return to Antioch. The Christians in Antioch are delighted to have them there, and to hear of all of their successes in bringing people to Jesus. Notes SPA MON WEEK 2 Chapters Study questions should be completed at the end of the week. Read Chapters On his third mission, Paul takes Timothy and Titus with him to Galatia to strengthen the churches there before returning to Ephesus. In Ephesus they learn about Apollo, who had been a follower of John the Baptist and knows about Jesus, but has not been baptized until he meets the Christians in Ephesus. Paul encounters many like him. He instructs them, baptizes, and confirmed them; they also receive the gift of tongues. The Church grows so much that Paul has to rent a hall in which to preach. He performs many miracles. When some magicians try to expel a devil in the Name of Jesus, it attacks them. Because of this, all of the magicians go to Paul and beg him to burn their books and charms. Paul hears about more trouble in Galatia, but he cannot go there because of the work that needs to be done in Ephesus, so he decides to write them a letter. His letter to the Galatians convinces the straying Christians that Paul is not an imposter, and his enemies there give up. When Paul hears about trouble in Corinth, he sends Timothy there, and he writes a letter to them. There are many disputes, and he realizes the factions are caused by a lack of charity. It is then that he wrote his beautiful passage on charity. (p. 127) Paul always felt the Holy Spirit was inspiring him while he was writing to the other churches. He makes a brief visit to Corinth but soon returns to Ephesus where there are pilgrimages to the goddess Diana. He converts many pilgrims, and this angers the silversmiths who want to sell statues of Diana. Demetrius, the leader of the silversmiths, causes a riot, saying Paul wants to destroy the temple of Diana. The mob beats Aquila and Priscilla because they won t tell where Paul is, and they take Gaius and Aristarchus, two Christians, to the amphitheater to be thrown to the lions. Paul goes to the amphitheater, but his friends will not allow him to interfere; the crowd is out for blood. The chancellor of Ephesus stops the action and disburses the crowd. Aquila, Pricilla, Gaius, and Aristarchus, badly beaten, are set free. Afraid that he may cause more problems for the Church in Ephesus, Paul decides he must leave at once. He takes some friends and goes to Philippi where Luke has been guiding the Church. Paul is not well because of all of his sufferings, but quickly recovers, especially when he is told that his second letter to the Corinthians has been very effective. He decides to go to Corinth and is very successful there. He wants to go to Rome where Peter has worked. He writes a letter to the Romans, introduces himself, and lets them know he will give them offerings from other churches where he has preached, but not until after paying a visit to Jerusalem. As he and the others are ready to leave Corinth, a plot is discovered in which he is going to be killed, so they leave by another route. Paul stays in Troas for a week. While there he receives a glimpse of Heaven. St. Paul the Apostle JJ4 Rev. 2/19/2009

TUES WED Read Chapters Paul is preaching about the beauties of Heaven well into the night. Eutychus, a teenage boy sitting on the windowsill, falls asleep and then falls out of the three story high window. He is dead, but when Paul prays over him, he comes back to life, and Paul continues preaching. On the way to Jerusalem, (where he knows the Jews who call themselves Christians will persecute him), Paul stops at Miletas, not far from Ephesus. Some of the Ephesians come to see him and plead with him not to return to Jerusalem, but to stay with them. He says it is God s will that he go. When he is in the Temple in Jerusalem, a crowd who accuses him of bringing Gentiles into the temple grabs him and calls him a traitor. They beat him until Lysias, the commander of the fortress, stops them. He allows Paul to speak to the crowd, and Paul tells them about himself and his conversion. They are very attentive until he says Jesus told him to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. Then the Jews again became enraged, and Lysias sends Paul to be scourged. He is sent to the fortress, but isn t scourged because he tells the soldiers that he is a Roman citizen. (It was illegal to torture a Roman citizen without a trial). Lysias sends Paul to the Sanhedrin to see what crime he has committed. A servant of Ananias, the high priest, slaps Paul in the mouth. Paul is allowed to speak, and he pits the Pharisees against the Sadducees by speaking of the resurrection of the body. The Pharisees believe in this doctrine, but the Sadducees don t. Lycias, afraid of what might happen, quickly have Paul taken back to the fortress. In the night Jesus speaks to Paul and tells him he will testify to him in Rome. This excites Paul. His young nephew comes to Paul at night and tells him there is a secret plot by the Jews to kill him. Paul sends the boy to Lysias with the information. Lysias has Paul escorted out of Jerusalem by a large number of troops and sent to Antonius Felix, the governor of Caesarea. After reading the letter Lysias has sent with Paul, the governor refuses to make a decision until his accusers arrive with their charges. Ananias and the leaders of the Jews charge Paul with stirring up the people, preaching a new religion that will try to destroy the Roman Empire, and defile the Temple. Each charge is worthy of the death penalty. Felix allows Paul to speak, and he is impressed with what Paul has to say, but being fearful of the power of the Jews, he refuses to make a judgment. Paul is imprisoned but was made very comfortable. Although he is a bit disappointed that he cannot leave for Rome, he uses the time to become closer to God. Drusilla, the young Jewish wife of Felix, wants to hear Paul, but it is clear that she and Felix only want to hear about his travels, not about the Lord. Paul becomes discouraged, thinking he is a failure as an Apostle. Luke visits and reminded him that suffering is the way to convert people, and that rest is good for Paul. Because of trouble in Caesarea, Felix is called back to Rome, and Portius Festus becomes governor there. Immediately, the Jews appeal to Festus to have Paul tried before the Sanhedrin. Paul appeals to Caesar, which only a Roman citizen can do. His enemies are furious because Festus will send Paul to Rome to be tried. Read Chapters Festus has great difficulty writing up the flimsy charges against Paul. Then he gets word that King Herod Agrippa and his wife Bernice, the rulers of northern Palestine, are coming for a visit. When Paul is told he is to entertain the couple, he is delighted at the opportunity to teach them about Jesus. Paul tells about himself and how he had persecuted the Christians. He relates his conversion and the persecutions he had suffered because of his love of Jesus and the desire to save souls. Festus tells Paul he is a madman, but he continues to preach. Agrippa grows uneasy because he knows Paul expects even him to become a Christian. Paul admits it is so and wished all of them would be like him except for the chains. Festus sends him back to his cell. Both Festus and Agrippa know Paul is innocent of any crime and would have freed him, except for the fact that he has appealed to Rome. He has to be sent there. They allow Luke, Timothy, and Aristarchus to accompany St. Paul the Apostle JJ5 Rev. 2/19/2009

THUR Paul on a sea voyage to Rome. Paul is even to be given special privileges on board ship. There is a terrible storm at sea, and Paul thinks they should winter in Crete, but he is not listened to. They continue and even a greater storm arises, and all are in danger of death. Only Paul stays calm and consoles the others. Then in the night an angel appears to Paul and tells him they will reach Rome and all will be saved. Paul tells them they will be shipwrecked on an island and will be safe. Because the grain has already been thrown overboard, the sailors plan to use the lifeboat and escape. Paul tells Julius about it, and he has the lifeboat cut adrift. An officer wants the prisoners killed for fear that they will escape. Julius prevents this from happening and has their chains removed instead. As Paul had predicted, they are able to get ashore on the island of Malta. The natives who speak an unknown language are friendly. They realize Paul is someone special because he is being so good to the others. When a poisonous snake bites Paul, he throws it into the fire and he is unharmed. The natives think he is a god. Publius, the chief Roman official on the island comes to the beach and invites all 276 men who have been shipwrecked to be his guests until they can leave. Publius father is very ill, and Paul cures him. All of the people of Malta bring their sick to Paul and he cures him by his prayers and blessings. He makes many converts there before he has to leave (sadly) for Rome. Julius is constantly amazed that at every port where they stop, people throng to hear Paul preach. On the overland walk to Rome he is even more impressed by the number of Christians who come to get Paul s blessing. He allows the Christians to walk alongside them to pray and sing hymns. They know about Paul because of the letter he has written to the Romans previously. Burrus, the chief of the imperial police, is a friend of Julius. Julius intercedes with him on Paul s behalf, and Burrus allows Paul to live in an apartment until his trial comes up. He does have to have one guard with him at all times, but the arrangements are very nice. The Jews of Rome come to see Paul and listen to him but most cannot accept that the Savior is a poor carpenter who died on a cross. Many Romans come to Paul and are converted. Then Paul has a messenger from Ephesus who tells him there are terrible problems with the Christians there, and that the Church is falling apart. Read Chapters To help with the problems in Ephesus, Paul writes a letter and sends it back with Tychicus, the messenger. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul writes to the Ephesians about the Mystical Body of Christ, and how each of us has different jobs in the Church, but everyone is equally important in God s eyes. The Romans eagerly accept Paul s teaching on the Mystical Body, the Church. Epaphras, a worker from Colossae, comes to Paul for advice because of problems there, and he asks Paul to write to them about the Mystical Body of Christ. Paul does so and also warns them about false teachers. The guards are constantly amazed at the number and kinds of people who come to see Paul, the rich as well as the poor. A frightened pagan slave, Onesimus, comes to Paul. He has stolen money from his owner, Philemon, a friend of Paul s in Colossae. Paul teaches him about Jesus and Onesimus is baptized. Paul writes a letter to Philemon explaining that Onesimus has converted, and asks him to accept the slave as a son and a member of the Mystical Body of Christ. Tychicus is to take Onesimus and the letter to Philemon. Epaphroditus, a Christian of Philippi, comes to see Paul with wonderful news about the Church there and brings him gifts from the people of Philippi. The Romans let Epaphroditus know that Paul, who once called Mark a coward, has greatly changed his opinion of him, because with maturity he has been of great assistance to Peter. He writes a Gospel and even helps Luke write one. Epaphroditus asks Paul to write a letter to the Philippians to let them know he was not suffering terribly in prison. He is happy to do it. Paul s letter to the Philippians is unlike any of the other ones he has written. He has no need to reprove them because they have always remained faithful. He tells them how pleased he is with them and thanks St. Paul the Apostle JJ6 Rev. 2/19/2009

FRI God for them. He also relates to them that nothing matters to him but the knowledge and love of Christ. Epaphroditus becomes very ill and is not able to take the letter. Paul prays for him, he is healed, and later is able to deliver the letter to the Philippians. After two years, Nero frees Paul, realizing he has committed no crime. Paul decides he should visit the churches in the Mediterranean before winter. Before leaving, he writes a letter to the suffering Christians in Jerusalem - the Hebrews - to instruct and strengthen them. He explains how the New Law - the Eucharistic Sacrifice replaces the Old Law. He and Titus go to Crete, an important mission because of its harbors. Many people pass through and will bring the Good News all over the world. Paul leaves Titus in Crete and goes on to Ephesus, Colossae, and Spain. He feels that he can t waste a minute in spreading the Word of God. On his journeys he receives the news that when Paul was in Spain a horrible fire broke out in Rome, and Emperor Nero blames the Christians. Nero is actually responsible for it, but to take the blame off himself, the Christians are the scapegoats. There is a terrible persecution of the Christians taking place. Paul decides he had to go to Rome immediately. Read Chapters and answer Study Questions. When Paul arrives in Rome, the Christian community tells him there is nothing he can do there and convince him to go visit the other churches. Everyone has to be cautious because the emperor s spies are everywhere. Timothy, now the Bishop of Ephesus, is not well, and Paul writes his first letter to Timothy. It is a fatherly letter in which he gives Timothy advice on how to handle the problems he has in his diocese. A few months later he writes a letter to Titus, who is having troubles with heretics in Crete. This is also a very fatherly letter filled with advice. In 67 AD Paul and Luke go to Rome, where persecutions are still going on three years after the fire. They find out that Peter is in Rome, also, and secretly making many conversions. Paul realizes how foolish the emperor is to think he can destroy the Church, which will never die. Paul reminds the others that through the Mystical Body of Christ, the martyrs are helping them in their work on earth. Paul is arrested and thrown in the Mamertine prison, charged with plotting the fire before leaving on his missionary work three years before. Paul s followers know that because Paul is a Roman citizen he can t be put to death without a trial. When Paul appears for questioning, he is so brilliant that the hearing is postponed. The conditions in the prison are miserable, and he suffers for the Christians who have weakened and deserted him. He writes a second letter to Timothy asking him to come and bring Mark with him. He also encourages Timothy to be strong and courageous in his ministry. Paul realizes his end might be near and wants Timothy to be ready to continue his work. In prison Paul learns that Peter has been betrayed by jealous brethren and has been arrested. Peter is crucified. Paul is taken to the magistrates and told by the guards that he has one more chance to deny Christ and save his life. He is taken outside the gates of the city and beheaded because he is a Roman citizen. (Those like Peter, who are not Roman citizens, are crucified, the most ignominious form of death). Paul joyfully went to his death knowing that his death is really victory, and he will join his beloved Jesus in Heaven. Notes WEEK 3 Book Report and Final Exam. This week s main focus should be on composition. The student should focus on the writing and perfecting of the book report; more than one draft may be necessary. This assignment can be applied to the composition grade. Please see the syllabus portion of the Literature course for guidance on writing a book report appropriate for 7 th or 8 th grade. Tychicus The messenger from Ephesus who brings the news to Paul in Rome about troubles there. He takes a letter back to them. 32. Onesimus A pagan slave of Philemon who is a friend of Paul s. He comes to Paul in Rome, afraid because he has stolen money from his owner. 33. Philemon A friend of Paul s whose pagan slave comes to Paul in Rome. Paul writes a letter to him asking him to forgive Onesimus, whom he has converted. 34. Epaphroditus A messenger from Philippi who brings good news to Paul about the growth of the Church there. 35. Demas A Christian who has deserted Paul and goes back into the world in order to avoid the persecution. Part II: Short Answer. (4 points each) 1. Mary Fabyan Windeatt is the author of the book. 2. On his way to Damascus, Saul is thrown off of his horse and blinded by Jesus because of his persecution of the Christians. 3. Saul was a tentmaker. 4. They don t trust him because they know he had persecuted the Christians. 5. Barnabus decides it should be changed to Paul because Paul is a Roman name, and Paul is going to speak to the Roman governor of Cyprus. 6. The Council of Jerusalem is called to settle the matter of the Gentile converts, whom the Jewish converts want to follow the Old Law of Moses in its entirety. It is decided that the Gentile converts do not have to follow the Old Law. 7. Paul becomes angry with Mark, because in his immaturity, he has deserted Paul and the others. 8. Paul and Silas sing hymns and pray, in order to calm down the other inmates, and when an earthquake occurs and they were freed but don t leave. Their behavior converts the guard and his household. 9. The Jews say Paul has blasphemed because he says Jesus, the carpenter from Nazareth, is God. They want a worldly king, not someone who has suffered and died on the Cross. 10. The people of Athens ignore him or treat him as if he were crazy. 11. Paul s friends in Corinth are Aquila and Priscilla. Paul helps Aquila in his tent making business, and they allow Paul to stay with them; Paul uses their house to teach the people about Jesus. 12. Because of their association with Paul, Aquila s business has fallen off badly, so they go to Ephesus to begin again. 13. Some of the Corinthians have gone back into pagan ways and are living bad lives. Others argue over who s the head of the Church. He realizes that they lack charity. 14. He brings up the doctrine of the resurrection of the body, knowing the Pharisees believe in the doctrine, and the Sadducees do not. 15. Lysias, the guard, sends him under cover of darkness with a large number of troops escorting him. 16. As a Roman citizen, he appeals to Caesar, and the seat of the government is in Rome. 17. He develops the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ. 18. Paul is martyred by being beheaded outside the gates of Rome. Part III: Essay-Answers will vary. St. Paul the Apostle JJ Rev. 2/19/2009
