1 Dear Parent, Public Service Announcement 1 Welcome to the exciting world of Girls Clubs! As a Bluebelle your daughter will experience many valuable lessons that will help her in her Christian walk and growth. Each week the Bluebelles Production Team will gather in Studio B to research and explore the exciting world of BIBLE INVESTIGATIONS. Your Bluebelle will enjoy charting her adventures in her very own Bluebelles Journal. As she completes the required activities for each unit, she will earn her a assignment (unit) badge. The assignments are centered around women of the Bible and have individual themes with key objectives to be learned within the unit. New Bluebelles members are to memorize the Bluebelles Tenets before they become official Bluebelles Reporters. They will then receive their official Bluebelles Reporters Press Pass. Bluebelles Reporters will advance in rank after they have completed one year s work in Girls Clubs (which includes earning the four assignment badges). Upon starting their second year of Bluebelles, those who have completed a one-year program will receive a Investigator Press Pass. An Anchor Press Pass will be awarded to all third-year Bluebelles who have completed two previous years of work. You can help your Bluebelle earn her Press Pass by encouraging her to memorize the following Bluebelles Tenets: BLUEBELLES SCRIPTURE: Love one another ( John 13:34). BLUEBELLES PLEDGE: I will try to do my best for Jesus at all times. I will let His love shine through me to others. BLUEBELLES MOTTO: Ringing Out God s Love BLUEBELLES FLOWER: Bluebell BLUEBELLES COLORS: Our Bluebelle colors are blue, orange and white. Our Girls Clubs color is purple. BLUE: ORANGE: WHITE: PURPLE: Stands for loyalty, faithfulness, and truth (honesty). Bluebelles should always be true blue! Represents sunshine, love, and faithfulness. Bluebelles should shine as bright as the sun for Jesus! Stands for purity. Jesus wants us to be pure in heart and body. Represents royalty and kingship. Bluebelles who love and serve Jesus are children of the King! When your Bluebelle has successfully memorized and recited the Bluebelles Tenets, please complete and return the attached letter to me. 3 THE ME GOD WANTS ME TO BE Lesson 1 Esther Badge Assignment 1 CASTLES AND QUEENS AND REAL LIFE THINGS Just as Queen Esther had to take care of herself to maintain her beauty and be a good representative for her kingdom, we to must take care of ourselves and set good examples because we represent the kingdom of God. Bible Verse I praise you because I am... wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Production Team Prayer Dear Father, Make me beautiful on the inside. Help me to always be willing to follow Your plan for my life. Amen. (Check off as completed) CHECKLIST Refer to the Lasting Impressions section for instructions that will assist you in preparing your meeting room for the year. Choose a bulletin board for the unit as well. Make and display a banner that says Welcome to Bluebelles. Make enough copies of the Public Service Announcement 1 and 1A for each Bluebelle to take one home to her parents. Make large name tags in the shape of a television. Place name tags, markers, and crayons in the Preproduction Area. Arrange for someone to impersonate Esther in costume. Use a robe, a cloth drape for their head, and a crown to finish the look. Provide the person a copy of the interview script that you will be using, feel free to improvise. Place a bowl of finger snacks on the table in the classroom. Place a world map or globe in Studio B. Research Lab: Provide two or more books that list names and their meanings, large sheets of paper, and markers or crayons. The counselor should write her name on a large sheet of paper, the meaning of her name, and draw an illustration of her name meaning as an example. 43

Direct them to the Preproduction Area and let the girls color their name tags. Have them write their names on the name tags (you or an assistant will need to help girls who cannot write or spell their names). Pin or tape name tags on girls. Use this time to get to know the girls, and gather address and phone number information. Play a get-acquainted game such as the following. Have one girl introduce herself by saying her name and favorite thing that begins with the first letter of her name. The game takes an interesting twist when the next girl does the same thing but also has to repeat everything the previous girl said. The game continues until every girl has had a turn. Then the counselor will try to repeat each girl s name and her favorite thing. EXAMPLE First girl: My name is Bonnie and I like Balloons. Second girl: My name is Debbie and I like Doughnuts. Her name is Bonnie and she likes Balloons. Third girl: My name is Cindy and I like Candy; her name is Debbie and she likes Doughnuts; her name is Bonnie and she like Balloons. COUNTDOWN Call the meeting to order with a warm welcome. Introduce yourself as Director (your name). Stir excitement about future club meetings by briefly explaining the BIBLE INVESTIGATIONS program of television production and telling about the assignments that the Bluebelles Production Team will be doing. Elaborate on a few of them. Distribute and introduce the Bluebelles Production Journals to the girls. Tell the Bluebelles that the exercises marked with a pencil are called Activities and these must be completed to receive the 44

5 assignment badge. Have them turn to the front of the Bluebelles Production Journal and introduce the Bluebelles rank concepts Investigator, Reporter and Anchor. Show the page that illustrates the badges for the first year of the BIBLE INVESTIGATIONS assignments. If you have made a Bluebelles rank bulletin board or poster, refer to it as you talk, and tell the girls how to earn all their press passes and badges. Have the girls turn to the page with the Bluebelles Tenets. Explain to them that the word tenets means the guiding principles or rules for Bluebelles to follow if they are to be good members of the club. Tell the new girls that they need to memorize these tenets to become a Bluebelles Investigator. Have them read the tenets with you. Tell them they will take home a letter to their parents that explains how to receive the Bluebelles Investigator Press Pass. Now tell the girls that it is time to pray and prepare our hearts for their first lesson of the assignment. Take prayer requests and lead the girls in prayer. You are all important members of the Bluebelles Production Team. During this unit the Bluebelles Production Team will participate in exciting Bible Investigations and participate in three Exclusive Interviews. An interview is used to learn information about people who are interesting and important. We are going to experience and participate in three exclusive interviews. In each interview we will learn more information about people who lived a long time ago. In the first Exclusive Interview, we will meet someone who lived in a Bible land very far away. There is a special friend that you will meet who was a very important woman in the Bible. Her name is Queen Esther. It s time to go to Studio B where I will introduce you to Queen Esther. STUDIO B AIR TIME Welcome to Studio B. On today s show we will be meeting a very exciting personality from Bible times. Queen Esther has been in the center of an interesting situation. Esther was chosen from a group of beautiful young maidens to be the Queen of Persia. Let s give it up for Queen Esther. Esther we are so glad to have you in Studio B today. Thank you for being here. I am so glad to be here. Thank you for inviting me. Let s get right to the matter of things. Tell us a little about yourself and how you became Queen. As you may know, I lived a very long time ago in the year 483 B.C. This means it was 483 years before Jesus was born. My husband is King Ahasuerus. It is very interesting how I became his wife. I have not always been a queen, but I have always been Jewish. My parents died when I was young and I was raised by my older cousin, Mordecai. We lived in Susa (Shusan), the capital city of Persia. Let me get this straight, you are a Jew, but didn t the Jews live in captivity under the Persian rule? 45

6 Yes, you are exactly right. God had a very special plan for my life. One day the King of Persia (who was very rich and powerful) decided that he wanted a new wife. He instructed his servants to invite all the beautiful maidens of the kingdom to the palace so he could choose the one to make his bride. You mean this was sort of like a modern-day beauty contest. Yes, you might say that. I was taken to the king s house with all the other maidens. Mordecai had told me not to tell anyone that I was Jewish because many Persians did not like Jewish people. When it was my turn to meet the King, he loved me more than all the other women and chose me to be his queen. King Ahasuerus placed the royal crown on my head making me Queen of Persia, and that night gave a big feast in my honor. Well I can see why the King would choose you, because you are very beautiful. But I know that it is more important to be beautiful on the inside. Even though I am the Queen of Persia, I am no more special to God than any of our studio audience. I never imagined that one day I would be the Queen of Persia, but I was willing to be what God wanted me to be. Everyone here must be willing to become whatever God wants them to be. (Looking at the audience) Who knows, maybe one day you may be a queen too! Queen Esther, thank you so much for joining us today. We are going to have you on again and have you tell us the rest of your exciting story. (Look to the audience) Thank you for joining us today. I hope you all learned that like Esther, it is more important to be beautiful on the inside than to focus on the outside. We hope to see you all again as we join Queen Esther here in Studio B! Q & A (Consider two or more of the following for discussion.) What were the special attributes of Esther? (Esther was very gracious and beautiful, but most important, she was beautiful on the inside.) What are some of your special attributes? (Hair color, sparkling eyes, pretty smile, nice laugh, and happy attitude, etc.) As a queen it was very important for Esther to take care of herself especially because she represented her kingdom. Just as Esther had to take care of herself to maintain her beauty, you must take care of yourself as well. You also represent a kingdom the kingdom of God. What does it mean to say that you represent something? God took special care when He created Esther. God took special care when He made you too. Although Queen Esther was beautiful, she was no more special to God than you are. He loves you just as much as He loved Esther. WRAP UP Have the girls say the Bible Verse and Production Team Prayer, then close in prayer. 46

7 RESEARCH LAB JOURNAL Bluebelles Production Journal Have each girl write her name neatly at the front of her beautiful, new Bluebelles Production Journal. Instruct the girls to find Activity #1 in their journals. Tell the Bluebelles to complete Activities 1 and 2 (Queen Esther and Me and Portrait of a Queen.) Some girls will need assistance. Allow the girls to look up the meaning of their names. Have each girl write her name and its meaning at the top of a large piece of paper and illustrate it. RESEARCH PROJECTS Have Bluebelles close their books and put supplies and books away. PREVIEW Distribute the Public Service Announcement and remind the girls to memorize the Bluebelles Tenets: pledge, motto, scripture, colors, and flower. Any girls who memorizes, recites, and returns the signed parent letter next week will receive her official Investigator Press Pass. Tell the Bluebelles that we are going to see who is growing the fastest by charting how much each girl grows throughout this unit. Next week we will measure everyone s height. Then at the end of the year, we will measure again to see how much each girl has grown. Remind them to bring a photo of themselves to go on the bulletin board. Depending on the bulletin board that you choose, the girls should either bring a recent photo of themselves as they become official Bluebelles Investigators or a baby picture for the Look How Much I ve Grown board.
