2 OBJECTIVE At the end of the following session, you will be able to 1. state with your own word the halal food stated in MS1500:2009 clause 2.3(e) 2. briefly explain the example of human parts and its derivatives that are not permitted by shariah law

3 HALAL FOOD Food and drink and/or their ingredients permitted under Shariah law and fulfill the following conditions Does not contain any human parts or its derivatives that are not permitted by Shariah law

4 WHAT IS HALAL? Halal is an arabic word means permitted or lawful. Things or actions permitted by Shariah Law without punishment imposed on the deor

5 HUMAN PARTS & ITS DERIVATIVE Any piece or feature of human body and anything that has developed or been produced from it Except milk, sperm and ova of human are not najs

6 SHARIAH LAW Laws of Islam in the Mazhab of Shafie or law of Islam in any other Mazhab s Maliki, Hambali and Hanafi which is approved by 1. the Yang di-pertuan Agong to be force in Federal Terrority or 2. the Ruler of any state to be in force in the state or 3. fatwa approved by the Islamic Authority (Malaysian Law)

7 WHY PROHIBITED? Based on PRICIPLE OF HALAL AND HARAM

8 PRINCIPLE 3 Due to impurity and harmfulness. But say not for any false thing that your tongues may put forth, - This is lawful, and this is forbiddden so as to ascribe false things to Allah. For those who ascribe false things to Allah, will never prosper (al-nahl: 116)

9 PRINCIPLE 4 What is permitted (halal) is sufficient and what is prohibited (haram) is then superflous Allah prohibited only the thing that are unnecessary or dispensable while providing better alternative People can survive better without consuming body parts and its derivates

13 L-CYSTEIN FROM HUMAN HAIR The source of L-Cysteine is human hair, chicken feathers, cow horn, petroleum by-products and synthetic material. Human hair is the cheapest source for L-cysteine. Majority of L-Cysteine used in USA is from human hair, which is its cheapest source. There is no pressure from consumers in USA and Canada to ban it.

14 What is L-cystein? L-Cysteine is a non-essential amino acid used as a reducing agent in bakery products. L-Cystein is used in Bagels, Croissants, Hard Rolls, Cake Donuts,Pita Bread, some Crackers and Melba Toast. It is also used as a nutrient in baby milk formula and dietary supplements.

16 PLACENTA AS FOOD Human placenta, known in Chinese medicine as Zi He Che According to FDA, it can transmit disease and thus cannot be included in dietary supplement product humans believe that eating the placenta prevents postpartum depression and treat wasting diseases, infertility, impotence.

19 WHY PERMISSBLE? Bacteria are creatures made by Allah and no injunction or prohibition of the mention of bacteria status is unclean. According to the principle of "all things in the first place was lawful" and "all things in the first place was to be" manipulating the beneficial bacteria to humans is not in conflict with the Shariah.

And what is Haram is also clear. And in between those two is a dubious area in which many people do not know about. So whoever distanced himself from it, he has acquitted himself (from blame). And those who fall into it, he has fallen into a state of Haram (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Daud, Ibn Majah and Darimi)

24 CONCLUSION Avoid haram food which are not good from point of health issue and Islamic perceptive Food which are halal is quality, thus help to create healthy physical and spiritual life We are what we eat
