2 2 Akram AbdulQaadir As-Saylani An-Najdi His name, birth, and upbringing: He is Harb bin Ismaa eel bin Khalaf Al-Handhalee [As-Sirjaani] 1 Al-Kirmaani, Abu Muhammad. It is said: Abu Abdillaah, Al-Faqeeh, Al-Haafidh, companion of Imaam Ahmad. The year of Harb Al Kirmani s birth is not known, except that Adh-Dhahabee mentioned in his biography that he died in the year 280H. He (adh-dhahabee) said after that: And he was roughly 90 years old. So perhaps his birth was around the end of the first hundred years 2. Imaam Harb Al Kirmani was raised in a time where Islamic knowledge was widespread. He was, like the other Imaams, one who loved knowledge and was steadfast on attaining it. He was serious on taking it [knowledge] from its people [the scholars], so he traveled in search of knowledge and he went to many lands [countries], and he took from numerous [scholars]. He heard from Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal and recorded from him and from Is-haaq bin Rahawayh many different issues. What he memorized before he came to Imaam Ahmad was mentioned to be in the range of 4000 issues. 1 As-Sirjaan is the biggest region in Al-Karmaan, a famous area between Persia, Makraan, Sijistaan, and Khurasaan 2 Possibly 190H as was mentioned by the Muhaqiq of Kitab as Sunnah

3 3 This is how we find Imaam Harb bin Ismaa eel Al Kirmaani, he went to many lands and exhausted himself in search of knowledge, and he did not cease in striving for it. From the results of this good effort was that he compiled for the Muslim Ummah many important issues in an appropriate place. Some of his teachers: Imaam Harb Al Kirmaani was keen on meeting scholars and taking from them and hearing their narrations, and he did not delay in seeking knowledge and did not put anything before hearing [the narrations]. From his Shaykhs who he took from: Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Hanbal Ash-Shaybani, Abee Abdullaah. One of the Imaams, reliable, Haafidh, Faqeeh, Hujjah [a proof], and he is the head of the tenth generation, died in the year 241H. Zayd bin Yazeed Ath-Thaqafee, Abee Me an Al Reqaashi Al Basree from the eleventh generation. Sa eed bin Mansoor bin Shu bah, Abee Uthmaan Al Khurasaanee, Author of the Sunan, died 227H. Abdullah bin Az-Zubayr bin Eesaa Al Qurashee, Abee Bakr Al-Humaydee, died 219H. Al-Qaasim bin Salaam, Abee Ubayd Al Baghdaadee, died 224H. Haashim bin Abdul Maalik Al Baahili, Al Basree, Abil Waleed At-Tayaalisee, died 227H, And many more 3 3 Such as: Aboo Daawood at-tayaalisee, Alee bin Al Madeenee, Sulaymaan bin Harb, Aboo Thawr, Aboo Daawood as-sijistaanee, Ahmad bin Nasr An-Neesabooree, Abbaas bin Abdul Adheen Al Anbaree, Aboo Haatim ar-raazee, and Aboo Zur ah ad-dimashqee.

4 4 His students: After Imaam Harb Al Kirmaani traveled to seek knowledge from the centers of knowledge and sat with the scholars, heard from them Hadeeth, and became a person of knowledge, students of knowledge came to him from every place. From them was: Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Al-Hajjaaj, Abu Bakr Al Maroodhi, died 275H, and Harb would write for him in his handwriting issues that he heard from Abee Abdillaah [Ahmad bin Hanbal] Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Haaroon, Abu Bakr Al Khallaal, died 311H. Abdur Rahmaan bin Abee Haatim Muhammad bin Idrees Ar-Raazee, died 327H. Abdullah bin Ya qoob bin Is-haaq Al Kirmaani. Al-Qaasim bin Muhammad Al-Kirmaani Muhammad bin Idrees Abu Haatim Ar-Raazi, died 277H. And other than them The praise of the scholars for him: The scholars have praised Imaam Harb bin Ismaa eel Al Kirmaani and testified that he is an Imaam in knowledge and virtue. Abu Zur ah ad-dimashqi said: I ve met those from the most virtuous of men, Ya qoob bin Sufyaan with the people of Iraq, and the second is Harb bin Ismaa eel and he is from those who wrote from me. Ibn Abi Haatim said: Abu Muhammad was close to my father [Abu Hatim Ar- Razee] in Shaam and he wrote from my father in Damascus.

5 Ibn Abi Ya laa said: He meaning Harb- was a jurist of the lands, and the Sultan made him a judge in the land. Abu Bakr Al Khallaal said: A noble man, Abu Bakr Al Maroodhi told me to go to him.

Al Haafidh adh-dhahabee said: The Imaam, Allaamah, Abu Muhammad Harb bin Ismaa eel Al Kirmaani, the Jurist, student of Ahmad bin Hanbal, traveled and sought knowledge. Imaam Ibn Al Qayyim said in his Nooniyyah: And look at Harb and the consensus he reported for the sake of Allaah he left in his youth from Karmaan Al Mardaawi said: Harb is from the major Imaams of the companions [of Ahmad] His writings: Kitab Al Masaa il [reporting] from the two Imaams: Ahmad and Is-haaq (it has been published) Kitab At-Taareekh that was related to him by Imaam Ahmad Kitab As-Sunnah His death: After Imaam Harb bin Ismaa eel Al Kirmaani s destined life built upon seeking knowledge, acting upon it, and spreading it amongst the people, death had reached him. He died in the year 280H. Adh-Dhahabee said: His age was around 90.
