2 Introduction We need to find the answer of Who is my Rabb? from the Quran. Today we will continue the study Surah Alaq to understand about who is our Rabb. We will see what Allah tells us about Him and also we will see the reality of the human being as mentioned in the Surah. Surah Alaq - Ayah 4-8 In Surah Alaq we see the generosity of the nurturing of Allah in this Ayah. One of the ways He is nurturing us is by teaching us. Allah is teaching us what we don t know. Who taught by the pen - Taught man that which he knew not. Who is the one teaching us? It is our Rabb who is teaching the human being by His generosity. Allah is nurturing all of his creation but he specially honored the human being by teaching him what he does not know How is Allah teaching us? Allah is teaching us by means. Here the pen is mentioned as a means. 2
3 Who is our Rabb? It is ٱٱلا ك ر مم.رر ب ك We need to believe that Allah is the one teaching us. Therefore if we want to learn, we need to attach ourselves to Allah. We should make the effort and take the means but in our heart we should know that Allah is teaching us. Allah is the one who bring us in this life without us knowing anything. When the human being is born he don t know anything. How Is Allah teaching us? The way of teaching is that Allah gave us the blessings of hearing, seeing and the heart, which are the means to learn and He made it easy for us the way of learning. The two ways Allah is teaching us through is nurturing are: Allah gave us eyes, ears and the heart. Allah made easy the way of learning. We have different ways of acquiring knowledge e.g. pens, books, teachers etc. 3
4 What is Allah teaching the human being? Allah is teaching us what we don t know. He is teaching us anything that we are unaware of. He is nurturing us by knowledge. By default we don t know anything when we are born. Allah gradually teaching us what we don t know. What is it that we don t know? 1. The Quran 2. The Wisdom i.e. Sunnah of the Prophet. These two things are the happiness in this life and hereafter. This is how we will be guided in this world. Allah has taken the charge of teaching us what we don t know. Allah mentions that He taught the human being things what he did not know. Then Allah tells us we need to thank Allah for taking care of us by teaching us the Quran and the Sunnah gradually. 4
5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses What are the actions of the heart? Shuker Allah After knowing the above the action of our heart should be to thank Allah in this life. We need to be within the boundary laid by Allah. But the reality of the human being as mentioned in the Quran is that the majority transgresses. These human beings, who are born without knowing anything and Allah teaches them what they don t know i.e. the Quran and the Sunnah. Allah tells us that indeed the human being is transgressing and exceeding the boundary laid by Allah. These human beings are not appreciating the nurturing of Allah. They violate the rules of Allah. Our Rabb is nurturing us so we are within the boundary laid by Allah. Allah is nurturing us on the straight path and to stay away from sins. Allah is nurturing us so we are guided to Paradise. When one exceeds the boundary of Allah then we will not benefit from the nurturing of Allah. This means we will not be guided. Allah brings to us the means of guidance. Allah is telling us our reality and also how he is nurturing us. When we accept the nurturing of Allah we will be guided. 5
6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. How will be the one who exceeds his boundary? When a person is not taking the guidance from Allah then what is his attitude? It will lead to a person feeling self sufficient from Allah and he feels he can live without a connection with Allah. We cannot survive without having any connection with Allah. We cannot survive by detaching our heart from Allah. Indeed, to your Lord is the return. In the next Ayah we are told we are going to return to Allah. We cannot detach ourselves from Allah as in the end we need to return to Him so why we feel self sufficient from Allah. We will return to Allah for accounts and recompense. If we did good in this life we will see good and if we did bad we will see bad. 6
7 Our Rabb is nurturing us and teaching us to be within the boundary laid down by him and to feel connected with him at all times. Our Rabb is the one we will return to the end of the day. The human being will easily transgress and feel selfsufficient. Therefore we need our Rabb to reform us and show us our faults. 7
