3 Introduction This project is all about Ramadan. All Questions will be answered. Make sure you read carefully. Remember to apply this to your normal life.

4 Different Types of Fasts There are eight different types of fasts. They are the following: Fardhe Mu-ayan- Fasting the whole month of Ramadan Fardhe Ghair Muayan- The duty upon a Muslim to Qadhaa Fast for missing a Fast with or without a valid reason. Waajib Muayan- To vow to keep a Fast on a specific day for the sake of Allah, upon the fulfilment of a wish or desire. Waajib Ghair Muayan- To vow or pledge to keep a Fast without fixing any day or date upon a wish (Nazr). Sunnat- Those Fasts that Nabee (SAW) kept and encourages to keep, e.g. Fasting on the 9th and 10th of Muharram or the 9th of Zil Hijjah, etc. Mustahab- All Fasts besides Fardh, Sunnat, and Waajib are Mustahab, e.g.: Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. Makrooh- Fasting only on the 9th or 100th of Muharram or just Saturdays. Haraam- It is Haraam to Fast on 5 specific days. They are Eidul Fitr, Eidul Adhaa and the 3 days after Eidul Adhaa.

5 Niyyah or Intention The Niyyah or Intention of Fasting is necessary. If someone stays away from things that break his fast, without Niyyah his Fast will not be valid. It is not necessary to make Niyyah verbally as Niyyah as it means to intend. Thus, the intention at heart is enough however it is better to say Niyyah verbally. The time for Niyyah last up to midday for Fardhe Mu-ayan, Waajib Mu-ayan, Sunnat or Mustahab Fasts. The hours of a day from Subha Saadiq to sunset.

6 Mustahab Acts In Fasting To partake of sehree. To delay the sehree up to a little before Subha Saadiq. To break fast immediately after sunset. To break the fast immediately after sunset. To break one s fast with dry dates if available. If dates are NOT available, then water. To make Niyyah at night.

7 Makrooh Acts Whilst Fasting To chew gum, rubber, plastic items or such things. To taste any article of food or drink and spit it out. Butif a women has an ill husband she is allowed to taste the food but cannot go down her throat. To collect your saliva and swallow it down at once, attempting to quench thirst. To delay a bath that has become Fardh knowingly until after Sudha Saadiq. To use tooth powder to clean your teeth however it is permissible to use a miswak. To complain about hunger or thirst. To take water to much up the nose when cleaning the nose. To gargle more than necessary. To argue or use rude words to each other. To backbite, tell a lie and swear etc, are sinful acts but in Ramadan it makes it even more worse.

8 Things That Break Fast Things that break one s fast are of two kinds. Qadhaa: To keep one fast in place of one that breaks or is broken intentionally. Kaffaarah: To keep one fast after another for 60 days continuously. However, if a person is unable to keep these 60 fasts, for a valid reason.

9 Thing That Break Fast and Makes Qadhaa Waajib Food forced in the mouth of someone fasting. Water being swallowed whilst gargling. To vomit intentionally or return vomit down the throat. Swallow a pebble, paper or anything that is not used as medicine or food. Swallowing something edible, equal or bigger than a grain of gram which was stuck between the teeth. However if it is first taken out of the mouth and then swallowed, it will break the fast whether it is smaller or bigger than a grain of gram. Putting oil into the ear. Inhaling snuff into the nostrils. If you swallow blood from the gum if the colour is more than the saliva. To eat or drink forgetting that one is fasting and thereafter thinking that you have broken your fast, to eat and drink again.

10 Things That do not break Fast To eat or drink something unintentionally. A fly or any object goes down the throat unintentionally. Water entering the ears. Dust or dirt going down the throat. Swallowing your own saliva. Taking an injection. Applying surma to the eyes. Taking a bath to keep cool. Rubbing oil on hair or body. To vomit unintentionally.

11 People That Do Not Need To Fast During Ramadan Sick people who are likely to get badly affected by fasting but should make up for the missed fasts once they have been cured. A Musaafir who does not intend to return for more than 14 days. It is feared that hunger or thirst will lead to death it is permitted to break their fast.

12 I tikaaf It means to stay in the masjid of residing therein.

13 Types of I tikaaf Waajib: To vow or pledge to make I tikaaf (on a fixed day) for the sake of Allah upon the fulfilment of some wish or desire. The least duration of a Waajib I tikaaf is one day and night and it must be accompanied by a fast. Sunnate Mu-Akkadah: To reside the last ten nights and days of Ramadan in the Masjid is Sunnate Mu-Akkadah. Mustahab or Nafl: This I tikaaf can be any amount of time, even for a few minutes. No fast is conditionally for Mustahab I tikaaf.

17 Taraweeh Taraweeh Salaat is Mu-Akkadah for both women or men. To perform Taraweeh with Jamaa at is Sunnate Kifaayah for men. If the person performs Taraweeh at home whilst Taraweeh is being performed at the mosque he will not get a sin. The time for Taraweeh is from Esha Salaat to a little before Subha Saadiq. If one has missed a few Rakaat of Taraweeh and the Imaam has started the Witr, then you can join but the remainder must be prayed after. It is Makrooh to perform Taraweeh sitting if one has the strength to stand. If you are not present during the Fardh then pray Salaat alone then join the Taraweeh after.

18 Virtues of Fasting Hazrat Aboo Hurairah (Radiyallahu-unh)reported that the Apostle (SAW) of Allah said: When Ramadan comes, the Doors of Heaven are opened and the Doors of Hell are shut, and the devils are put in chains and the Doors of Mercy are open. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: The fragrance of the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the smell of musk. Hazrat Aboo Hurairah (Raadiyallahu-anh) reported Rasulullah (SAW) said: Whoever breaks their fast on a day of Ramadan without an excuse or illness his whole life will not compensate it. Hazrat Sahl bin Saad (Raadiyallahu-anh) reported that Rasulullah (SAW) said: In paradise there are eight doors and one is called The Door of Ar- Rayaan and to only those who fast shall enter. Hazrat Anas (Raadiyallahu-anh) reported that The Messenger of Allah said: Partake in Sehree before dawn because there is Barakah (blessing). Hazrat Aboo Hurairah (Raadiyallahu-anh) reported that the Messenger (SAW) of Allah said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and is hopeful of reward, all his pasts sins will be forgiven, and whoever stands up in Namaaz during the blessed night with faith and is hopeful of reward all his past sins will be forgiven.

19 There Are 6 Duties In Fasting Known As Sunnats Partake of Sehree or predawn meals. To break the fast immediately after sunset. To read Taraweeh Salaat during the night. To feed the poor and hungry. To increase the reading of The Holy Quraan. To observe I tikaaf in the Masjid in the last ten days of Ramadan.

20 Fasting Teaches Sympathy For The Poor Fasting is the only method of all the pain and hunger the poor go through is experienced by the rich. It also gives us the thought of how people will act on the Day of Resurrection, this hunger and thirst will be felt through everyone.
