Yahyavi 4 Abstract Kerman province is one of the most important centers of carpet producing in Iran, where its rugs have a special design and pattern different from other areas in Iran. Kerman carpet's design and pattern has gone through many changes Since Qajar era. Effect of European naturalism in evident in Iranian arts during Qajar era which includes carpet art; and producing pictorial carpets became popular during this era. Very special and unique types of these carpets are produced in Kerman. Present research is a descriptive-analytical study aiming to identify various types of pictorial carpets woven in Kerman during Qajar and Pahlavi era. Due to historical importance of this subject, the data was collected in a documentary method and by means of library resources. By studying pictorial carpets of Qajar and Pahlavi era we concluded that pictorial carpets have similar visual characteristics of Kerman carpets. Main features of Kerman carpets including color variation and number of colors, penumbra by using two light and dark colors (in flowers and figures), floral patterns and designs specially single "Farang" Flower and flower bouquets, using Persian pickles sited in various types of Kerman carpet, are also observed in pictorial carpets of this region. Carpets can be categorized and separated from carpets of other regions by means of such feature.. key words: Kerman Carpet, Design and Pattern, Pictorial Carpets 1.DOI: /jjh Present paper is based on M.A. thesis titled "A Reviwe on History of Pattern & Design Art of Kerman Carpet (Case Study: Qajar & Pahlavi Era)". 2.
