The Expository Essay

What is an expository essay? An expository essay explains, or acquaints the reader with knowledge about the topic. Expository essays use facts and statistical information, cause and effect relationships, or examples.

What is an expository essay? Since expository essays are factual, they are written without emotion and usually written in the third person. That means that the use of the pronoun "I" is not usually found within the essay.

Expository essays also have a distinct format. The main idea (thesis statement) must be narrow enough to be supported within the essay. Each supporting paragraph must have a main supporting idea and all other sentences must relate directly to it. Transition words or phrases are important as they help the flow and reinforce the logic.

Expository essays also have a distinct format. Finally, the conclusion paragraph should originally restate the main idea (thesis) and the main supporting ideas. Finish with the a statement that reinforces your position in a meaningful and memorable way. Never introduce new material in the conclusion.

Transition Supporting reason or idea 1: (Complete Topic sentence or thesis statement (will become basis for introductory paragraph) Supporting reason or idea 1: (Complete Transition Transition Supporting reason or idea 1: (Complete Conclusion Restate Thesis: (Complete Transition

Developing the introductory paragraph. When I was little, I always thought everyone went to church on Sunday and if you did not then I thought you were strange. As I became a young lady, and started meeting friends that were not just Christians I then understood that there were. many religions practiced in this world. Southwest Asia has three main religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Developing the introductory paragraph. Have you ever thought of practicing someone else s religion? Do you think you can pray 5 times a day like Muslims or do you think you can go to church every Sunday? I am talking about the 3 Abrahamic Monotheistic Religions of South West. Asia. The 3 Abrahamic Religions are from the first Judaism the second Christianity and the last Islam. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are the 3 Abrahamic Monotheistic Religions of South West Asia.

Writing Body Paragraphs Begin with Topic Sentence Give first supporting detail Provide example/facts/explanation Give second supporting detail Provide example/explanation/facts Give third supporting detail Provide example/explanation/facts

Example of Body Paragraph Christianity is one of the religions that are practiced in Southwest Asia. This religion derived from Judaism during Roman rule in Palestine. Jesus is considered the founding figure and Messiah savior of man to the followers of Christianity. Jesus and his followers (disciples) began receiving a lot of attention because of his claim of being the Messiah, which the Roman Empire took as a threat. Consequently, Jesus was crucified (form of execution), but was believed to shortly after rise from the dead. Many Christians were put to death by Roman authorities even though they were widely spread over the Roman world, however, in 313, the religion was approved by the empire.

Example of Body Paragraph Islam is the third Abrahamic Monotheistic religion of Southwest Asia. Islam was started in Mecca in 634 CE by who they call Muhammad. Muslim people consider Muhammad the founder of Islam and the final prophet. Muslim is the name for someone who practices Islam. The Muslims have to go to Mecca once in their life to face the Kaaba to pray five times a day which is located in the center of the Grand Mosque.

The concluding paragraph The concluding paragraph: Restates the main idea or thesis Summarizes the supporting ideas Ends with a punch!

The concluding paragraph All in all, I would have to say that all people are not only different physically, but also their beliefs. I now understand how and where Christianity, Judaism, and Islam derived along with key points that highlight the history of each individual religion.
