2 - Page 2 - Message from the President Current & Future Goals I would like to spend a little time and pay tribute to a brother on his initiative that led to the place we call Al-Madina Association. The idea of having a religious /social place was conceived by brother Munzurul and credit goes to him for taking this step. MashaAllah with the help of other brothers in the community, Al-Madina Association was established. Since the start, Al-Madina has been offering religious/social programs for the Muslim community. May Allah reward brother Munzurul and other brothers immensely for their outstanding work. Al-Madina Association aims to unify and nurture the community by providing high quality service to educate and mobilize the community. Al-Madina s vision is to create a place of worship where the whole family is welcome. The purpose for Al-Madina Association is twofold; the short term purpose is to establish a musalla, i.e., a place to hold congregational prayers including Juma payers and also tarawih prayers during the month of Ramadan, and run some religious and social programs. The long term purpose to turn this place into an Islamic center that provides means for family-friendly social gatherings, Islamic education for children and adults, open play space for children, and offer other religious and social activities. As noted above, the first and foremost reason is to have this place to pray together as a community. Prayer in congregation is a major symbol of Islam, the most prominent of the Sunnahs of the Beloved Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace), and his joy in this world, and a means for individuals and communities to strengthen their relationships with their Lord. Our beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and grants him peace) said: "Prayer in congregation is superior to prayer alone by twenty-seven degrees". MashaAllah we have been praying in our current location for over two years and participation has been good and growing slowly. We have seen a lot more people coming in for daily prayers and Friday prayers. InshaAllah the number will grow and we will see many more people in the future. We plan to also reach out to other community members living in nearby areas through and other means, and encourage them to come to the musalla for prayers and other religious/social events. Needless to say, without community involvement and support, we cannot fulfill the objective for this place to be in existence. It is very important for all of us to strengthen our relationship with the Al-Mighty, and that can be achieved by coming to the musalla for prayers and participating in other events. May Allah help us all and make us do right things in life. In short, Al-Madina Association s goal is to promote and encourage community involvement, service and harmony among religions. Please be a part of this musalla. By doing so, we will all get closer to Allah and fulfill our duties as a good Muslims. May Allah guide us all to the truth and keep us on the right path, and improve our affairs and purify us for the hereafter. Ameen. 5 - Page 5 - Review of iquran Android Application By, Shakil Maruf iquran is one of the very popular Quran applications for the Google Android platform. There are two versions of the app, a free one called iquran Lite with some limitations and a paid one for $6.99. At its core, iquran allows the user to read the Quran in Madani script, listen to recitations from many famous Qaris and view multiple translations of each verse in several languages. The app is well laid out and makes good use of common swipes and gestures to flip through pages and surahs. It makes reading Quran much easier and more practical in daily life. The developers are eager to get feedback on any issues and usually rectify it with a quick update. There are many other Quran applications online, but what truly sets iquran apart is the implementation of color coded Tajweed rules and fast search of any verse in the Quran using English (translation) or Arabic. Recently a feature has been added to help with memorization. I recommend you try out the free version and if you like it support the developers by buying the paid product. 6 - Page 6 - Service Central Food Drive Allah has mentioned in the Quran: 'And spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before Death should come to any of you and he should say, "O my Lord! Why didst Thou not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good"'. (63:10) The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) said: "He is not a believer, he who eats to his fill, whilst his neighbor besides him goes hungry." [Saheeh al-bukhari (112)] has begun a neighborhood outreach program that encourages intra-community relations by helping those in need in Rosemount MN. We are collecting non-perishable items to donate to our local Rosemount food shelf. Please bring such items in when you come to Al-Madina Association for Salah or when you come for the Family Potluck and Kids Game Night. JazakhAllahKhair DONATION UPDATE: MashaAllah we collected and donated 30+ food items and 45+ clothing items in December. Keep up the good work and let s try to beat this amount! Value of Food By, Mobeen Siddiqui The other day, I was astonished after listening to a thought provoking short talk given by my friend pertaining to the food sitting in my plate. He said, Do you have any idea how many people contributed to bring that food to you that is on your plate? First, a farmer plans for the crops months ahead of seeding time. He plans different crops for different season and then prepares the land accordingly. He ploughs it differently for different crops, waters it differently and has to wait for varying times to get it prepared from crop to crop. From sowing the seed to the prepared plant he takes care of the crop on a daily basis, yet would still heavily depend on the climate as well. After cutting and storing it, the crop is sent out to the wholesale market, where different factories buy it and process it differently based on vendor orders. Those vendors then sell those products to big stores who market it at different prices. Then as consumers we go and buy those grains/ flour/cereal etc. and make roti/bread/rice etc out of it. In this way it finally reaches our plates to eat. I was already aware of the process but never thought that so much effort was put in to bringing the food to my plate. I value my food a little more now after being cognizant of the effort made to bring it to me. Allah has bestowed upon us so many blessings. A simple example can be taken from the article above, where Allah has blessed man with knowledge and skill, seeds to grow our food, as well as rain and other climates to help form the food we eat today. 7 - Page 7 - Enlightened Reading What is Our Role as Good Muslims? By, Annur Ul Islam (Romo), Mobassirul Islam (Rono) The future of Islam lies in the hands of the Muslims to carry out the duty of the Nabi s (P.B.U.H.) Ummah by setting examples for the next generation. We do not want to set bad examples for the next generation, because if we do then they will do the same and we will get at least some of the sins that they earn for doing such actions. If you do the math that is a lot of sins that we did not directly do. On the other hand if they follow our good actions, then Insha Allah, Allah (s.w.t.) will reward us. At first some of us may think that this is a huge duty for us and that we should just leave it for someone else. So what that means is that we all have to set examples for our youth. It is not that hard, we have to be good Muslims. We can achieve this by doing some of the following: -Accept that Allah Almighty exists and pray sincerely -Be grateful for everything we have, be it spiritual, mental, or physical -Respect the opinion of others -Never lie -Be good to your family -Read the Quran and Hadith a lot -Keep your body, clothes, house wares and everything you own clean -Pray in the middle of the night. -Accept that Nabi Muhammad (PBHU) is the last of a long line of Nabis that started with Nabi Adam (PBUH) -Respect the opinion of others -Keep our promises -Be gracious towards your parents -Seek knowledge -Always help the poor and orphans -Repent if you have committed a sin By doing these things we can set a good role for our youth to follow. This in turn helps make sure that the amazing religion of Islam strives for our future generations. Going to the Musalla - Learning Etiquettes By, Syed Ahzam Ali About three years ago, a musalla opened up in my neighborhood. I had started going there with my dad to attend the daily prayers and other monthly programs. It was amazing. I didn t even notice but had slowly started making friends, learned the Islamic etiquettes, and got a sense of community. Every day after school, I like to go to the masjid/musalla. Some days it is not possible due to other engagements, but I start counting for the next day. I really enjoy meeting my friends and I wish to make more friends as time goes by. In the musalla, there are many good and beneficial programs that have taught me a lot of great things. There are Quiz Bowls and many great lectures delivered by Muslim Scholars. Through those, I have learned Islamic etiquettes such as: a sense of responsibility, respecting each other, and equality in Islam. For example, we have to make a straight line for prayer. This tells us that Islam treats everyone equal. In the masjid/musalla, while we are talking with our friends, it is easy to forget these etiquettes so it is important to remember them. It is good for teenagers to take the responsibilities of a musalla, but through proper direction. I am happy that a musalla has opened in my community. I hope more people come to this place. I am getting the opportunity to learn many things without the formal education process. I wish this continues for a long time.
