2 Na al an-nabi Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam ALLAH IS BEAUTIFUL! OUR PROPHET MUHAMMAD AND HIS BELONGINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL! EVEN OUR PROPHETS SANDAL NA AL IS BEAUTIFUL! Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam In Arabic the Prophet s Sandal is known as Na al an-nabi Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam. The Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam wore a special kind of sandal, the two strings of which were drawn between the blessed toes. These sandals (Na al), became likewise an amulet full of baraka particularly strong against the evil eye. Were they not worthy of all admiration and veneration, for the Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam had touched the Divine Throne with them during his heavenly journey, so that they became; The Vertex Of The Crown Of The Throne Markaz é Ahle Sunnat N.I.S. 3 The Prophet s Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Sandal is an amulet full of bliss, peace and serenity. At time of stress and grief one should place it on their heart and eyes for its luminous effects. It is a cure for the ill, pathway to relief for those in anguish, healing for the pregnant woman at time of birth, strong against the evil eye, and a symbol of security and protection for ships at sea, property from loss, house from burning, caravans from hostile attacks. People would use the Sandal image for the before mentioned reasons and also for a means of achieving immense blessings in the stations of this world and the hereafter. There are lots of beautiful literature on the blessed sandal, poetry in praise and honorary literature. ( Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho ) Hazrat Abdur Rahman Jami had this unique quality of expressing his love and veneration in poetry which we shall highlight in a bit. Raddi Allaho Our master Hazrat Abdur Rahman Jami Ta ala Anho writes that all heavenly beings rubbed forehead of their intention on RasulAllah s Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Throne rubbing Sandals. He also Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam writes that the heavenly tree Tuba had rubbed its head at the Prophet s sandal and thus reached highest honour, and he repeatedily expresses the feeling that the thread of the soul is nothing but the string of RasulAllah s Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam sandals and that cheek of the longing lover resembles the fine Ta ifi leather of which these sandals were made: Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam do the lover s cheeks not hope to be touched by the Prophet s Holy Feet thus to obtain every conceivable bliss. Choon Soo e Mun Guzar Aari, Manne Miskeen Zanaa Daari Fida-E-Naqsh-E-Nalainat, Kunam Ja Ya Rasulullah Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam! When You Pass By Me; Then Even In My Immense Poverty, Ecstatically, I Must Sacrifice My Soul On Your Blessed Sandal Ya Rasulullah Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam! Het Briljante en Schitterende Licht van Bareilly Sharief, De Verkoeling voor de ogen van de Ullema, De Mujaddid é Azam van de Eeuw, De Imaam Abu Hanifa van zijn tijd, De Ghaus ul Azam van zijn tijd, de Zoette de Honing de Roos uit de Geurige Tuin van de Geliefde Profeet Sallal laho Alayhi Wa Sallam, De Geliefde, De Onbetwiste & Hoogbegaafde Leidsman van de Soennitische gemeenschap, Huzur Aa la Hazrat, Imaam é Ahlé Sunnat, Asik é Rasoel Sallal laho Alayhi Wa Sallam, Mujaddid Deen-o- Millat Hazrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan expressed his love and devotion towards the blessed Sandal of The Supreme Prophet, The Imam of the Prophets, Sayyiduna wa Maulana Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam Muhammadur Rasoolullah in following words: Jisay Teri Saf-E-Niyal Sai Milay Do Niwalay Nawal Se Wo Bana Kai Us Kai Ugaal Se Bhari Saltanat Ka Udhaar Hai The One Who Received Two Morsels From Where You Leave Your Shoes; Becomes So Great, That An Entire Kingdom Would Survive On His Mere Spittle! 4 The poets, many of them from North Africa and Spain, described these blessed sandals or expressed their longing for them. Thus an Andalusian poetess, Sa duna Umm Sa d bint Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anha Isam al Himyarriya begins one of her poems with the words; I Shall Kiss The Image If I Do Not Find A Way To Kiss The Prophet s Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam Sandal. Perhap s The Good Fortune Of Kissing It Will Be Granted To Me In Paradise In The Most Radiant Place, And I Rub My Heart On It So That Perhaps The Burning Thirst Which Rages In It Maybe Quenched. The North African historian al Maqarri devoted a voluminous book to the subject of the Prophet s Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam sandals, its more then 500 pages contain not only prose and poetical texts but also drawings of the blessed sandals as they were used by people as a protective talisman, for it protected one s house from fire, caravans from hostile attacks, ships from disaster at sea and property from loss. Around the turn of the present century Hadrat Yusuf Nabhani Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho, the collector of eulogies for the Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam, sang in one of his poems: Verily I Serve The Image Of The Sandal Of Mustafa So That I May Live In Both Worlds Under Its Protection [Sa d] Ibn Masud Was In The Service Of His Sandal. And I Am Fortunate By Serving Its Image. I Dust The Sandal Image With The Whiteness Of My Beard. Since The Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi Wa Sallam Fastened The Band That Passed Between His Toes. It Is Not For The Image That My Heart Is Longing. Yet It Yearns For The One Who Wore This Sandal. We Are Lowered By Awe To Honour This Sandal. And Whenever We Lower Before It We Are Raised. So Place It On The Highest Shelf! For Indeed In Reality It Is A Crown And Only Outwardly A Sandal Markaz é Ahle Sunnat N.I.S. Noori 4 Razvi N.I.S. Maslak é Ala Hazrat

5 History of Drawing the Image of the Blessed Sandal: From those who drew an image of the blessed Sandal, approved its miraculous blessings and served it from the Hadith Raddi Allaho Ta ala Masters were Ibn Asakir Anho Raddi Allaho & his student Badr Fariqi Ta ala Anho, Hafiz Zayn al-din Iraqi Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho & his son, Imam Sakhawi Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho and Imam Suyuti Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho from the east. It is well known that the following scholars of Morocco were foremost in drawing the image (Ar. Mithal/Naqsh) since they did not have the real thing, Ibn Marzuwq Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho, Abu Bakr Ibn al-arabi Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho, Hafiz Abu al-rabee, Hafiz Abu Abdullah bin al-ibar, Ibn Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho, Rashedd al-fahri Ibn Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho Jabir Aashi, Ibn al- Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho Bara al-tuwsi, Abu Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho Is haq al-undlusi. Ibn Asakir Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho took it from the Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho Moroccan Ibn al-haaj and all hadith scholars thereafter took it from him. Raddi Allaho Ta ala The tribe of Ibn al-hadeed Anho preserved the Sandals and then they were kept in Jami ah Ashrafiyyah, Damascus. Moroccan travellers such as Raddi Allaho Ta ala Anho Ibn al-rasheed came to Damascus and drew images to take back for the people. May Allah enlighten their graves with His light and reward them for their efforts. Ameen! Markaz é Ahle Sunnat N.I.S. Noori 5 Razvi N.I.S. Maslak é Ala Hazrat

22 An Andalusian poetess, Sa duna Umm Sa d bint Isam al Himyarriya begins one of her poems with the words; I shall kiss the image if I do not find A way to kiss the Prophet s sandal. Perhaps the good fortune of kissing it Will be granted to me in Paradise in the most radiant place, And I rub my heart on it so that perhaps The burning thirst which rages in it maybe quenched.
