8 What is Islam? Islam began in Arabia and was revealed to humanity by the Prophet Muhammad. Those who follow Islam are called Muslims. Muslims believe that there is only one God. The Arabic word for God is Allah. Islam is the second largest religion in the world with over 1 billion followers. 8

11 1. Belief in God (Allah) Islam teaches that there is one Unique God (Allah) who should be worshipped and obeyed. 2. Belief in Angels Muslims believe that Allah created unseen creatures such as Angels. 3. Belief in the Books of Allah Muslims believe that Allah revealed books to mankind through his Prophets. 4. Belief in the Prophets of Allah Muslims believe that Allah sent Prophets to all mankind as messengers for their guidance. 5. Belief in the Day of Judgment Allah will judge with perfect justice each person individually according to his good or bad. 6. Belief in Destiny Muslims believe that everything that is or that happens in this universe is governed by Allah.

13 Faith(Shahada) There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Prayer(Salat) Offer prayers 5 times a day. Fasting(Siyam) Fast from food, drink and sexual relations from sundown to sunset. Almsgiving(Zakat) Donate a portion of income to the needs of the poor. Pilgrimage(Hajj) Make a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca and participate in a series of Ceremonies once in a lifetime.
