The construction dates back to 1890s, but in 1970 half of AlBastakiya was destroyed to make a development complex office for the emirates ruler. The neighborhood is located in the east of bur Dubai and represents a historical land mark that distinguishes the city. It extends along the creek for a distance of about 300 meters and extends southward to a depth of 200 meters. The Bastakiya is separated with alleys (Sekkah) between the houses. Before electricity people build wind towers (barjeel). A barjeel is a tall tower attached to the house to let the cool air comes inside. The number of Barjeels a

3 house has depends on the wealth of the family. AlBastakiya is known of it narrow lines too. It was inhabited by rich families who came from Bastak in southern Iran, like (alhaj Mohammad Alfarooq), (alhaj Abas bin Abduallah AlAbase AlBastake) and (Alhaj Abduallah a al bhzad). When Prince Charles visited Dubai he was advised to visit AlBastakiya because, he was known of his love of historic buildings, he suggested to his hosts that this amazing place should be preserved. Shortly after he left, the decision was reversed. One day, I was having a ride with my family a view of a wonderful ancients neighborhood captured my sight, giving me a feeling that I was in a fairytale. I told my father to pull over and discover this fantasy. The weather was amazing. I noticed that nearly every house had a (barjeel) which allows cool air to enter. And also how sand covers all the houses that reflected the beauty of the old neighborhood. The guide told us that people who lived here relied on the creek for food. The construction of the Bastakiya catches attention of it visitors and leaves a deep impression of each scene. Nowadays people no longer live in this area. The government of Dubai has restored it to highlight the architectural heritage and turned this neighborhood to an amazing place for tourists to visit.

4 AlBastakiya has become a bustling market and a cultural centre; a museum, art gallery and a restaurant were built to satisfy the visitors need and curiosity. AlBastakiya is an Ancient section of the city of Dubai that will always remind us of the magnificent of old heritage

6 United Arab Emirates is a small country, but it has a great heritage, and it is one of the famous countries around this world. Forty years ago, the U.A.E was separated until H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H Sheikh Rashed bin Saeed Al Maktoum decided to make one strong country, which was union in 2 nd /December/1971 as United Arab Emirates, so every year on this date we celebrate our national day and remember the union of our great emirates and how they translate that union to many achievements which make us proud to be citizens of this country. Girls wear Thoub it is kind of dress that has long sleeves, also they wear some accessories, and to get more beautiful they put henna on their hands, while boys wear Kandora and they wear Ghutra on their head. There are some amazing things in our culture are, some of them are still available nowadays, grandfathers used to go fishing, diving to get pure pearls and some of them were herding sheep, women used to stay at home to look after children, cook food and help their husbands in work, it was really a simple life, more than one family stayed with each other in one house, women used to cook delicious food such as Khabees, Harees, Khanfaroosh, Khameer and Chebab bread. Last but not least, our heritage and traditional life is part of our past, present and future. This generation must protect their grandparents past and heritage.

8 Spirit of the Union In February 1968, the rulers of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan ANahyan and Dubai Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed AlMaktoum (May Allah rest their souls in piece) determined to make a bond gathering the people in the area. They assumed that the union would be the best way to stay strong, so, they held a meeting to discuss unity between Abu Dhabi & Dubai, then the meeting was followed by a call to the rulers of the other emirates in the Arabian Gulf to meet together and discuss the issue of unity. The rulers of the seven emirates answered the call, and in 2 nd /December/1971 with the grace of God, a union gathered the seven emirates under the name of The United Arab Emirates that include: Abu Dhabi (The capital), Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Um AlGaiwain and Fujairah, later on, in 10 th/ February/1972, Ras Alkhamiah joined the union. We are living peacefully and happily thanks to Allah then two wise men, who planted their dream 40 years ago, and today their children are harvesting what they planted with loyalty, love and a spirit of union.

I study in Asma Bint Al Numman School and I'm going to write about my personal life from the child hood till being a teenager. But before I start I want you to know something about me that I believe that I'm stubborn from the first day I came to the world as my mother delivered me through a caesarean surgery. East English School was my kindergarten ; I started there when I was 4years old and I have been there for 2 years studying English and other subjects. Al-Manahel was my primary school where I started studying when I was 6 years old in this school I have got the highest number of certificates Also I have got a group of friends that was the best group in my whole life. Moreover I have got the best teacher her name was Na'ma. She was teaching us English. She encouraged us to love English, and she never spoke with us in Arabic. She told us that we have to learn English, since we

10 are in grade five. One day, she played with us the treasure game which is similar to the Amazing race. In this game, she divided us into two groups and asked us questions, look on the trash, finding some few things and I remember that we were the winners in this game, but I can't really remember what the gift was. I started the new year in the primary preparative I was there for 2 years and a half. It was the best and the worst at the same time. In these 2 years I quarreled with my best friend and I knew that the sister of our best teacher would teach us for 4 years, and I was so excited for this teacher, because I knew that I would find a teacher who has similar habits as my best friend. We started our semester studying hard, participating in both assembly, and competitions in the school. I remember that I recited the holy Quran in 5 sections and it was a great thing to remember that much of the holy Quran. I hope that I will be able to memorize the whole Quran ' inshallah'. In 8 grade, the second semester, I was very angry and upset because we shifted from Umm Al Quwain to Dubai, and I was frustrated because I would meet new friends and new teachers, but I didn't make any friendship with the students. I was very lonely and I wasn't participating in anything but my marks were really good in that year. I remember that I got a bad group of the class mates. They gave me a stolen sheet of math exam and told me to answer the sheet the second day. The teacher was really angry of us especially me and she was screaming loudly and I cried a lot. Anyway, we started 9 grade and I met my best friend who lived in Oud Al Muteena; she is the greatest friend in the world; she is cute, friendly, funny,faithful, and fabulous. I'm so glad to have a friend like her and I hope she will not forget me, because I really miss her now, because she is in Amna School and I'm in Asma. Finally I hope that 2012 will be the best year so far. These were my memories.

12 My name is Noura Abdulrahman, 16 years old. I m Studying in Asma Bint Numan Model School in grade 10. I m the fourth child of the family, with two brothers and three sisters. I am a very motivated student, always aiming high, and thinking big, trying my best to excel among others. I have become now, greatly influenced by the school beliefs and practices of my home and my school. My home is my base or foundation. It's where I started learning, developing my understanding and beliefs. Attitudes and values are being developed through practice and training at home.i am very lucky and grateful to have the best parents in this world. They provided me with my needs and good discipline. No other place like home; it is not about how big and beautiful it is, but how much peaceful you feel and the tranquility I have in it. The harmony among the members of the family is more significant. And these are some pictures of my home:

13 My second home is my school. It is where I developed my talents and skills. The kind of school where I am going to and the attitudes of teachers where I am interacting with have a great importance on achieving my aims and goals in life. Most of the time, they provide inspirations and encouragement to go high and reach it. At the moment you achieve your goals, school will provide recognition and certification. I have lots of certificates from my school and these are some of them: In conclusion, I believe that the foundation of our life must be strongly established to enable us to become more principled, and well disciplinedpeople. Home is the foremost important factor, what a person has become now is based on how home had molded him/her from childhood.
