Thirukarthikai Theepam (Vilakeedu) on Tuesday 1st December Vinayakar Viratham starts on Thursday 3rd December Vinayaka Shashti and Kajamuha Samharam on Tuesday 22 nd December Guru Peyarchi (Lord Jupiter transition) on Sunday 6 th December 2009 Monthly Chathurthi festival on Friday 20th November 2009 Abishekham at 6-00 PM Regular Puja at 7-30 PM followed by Alankara Puja and circumbulation of Utsavamoorty (inner sanctum) Significance of Chathurthi The fourth day after new moon and fourth day after full moon in the Hindu calendar is observed as Chaturthi and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. But there are two Chaturthis in a month Sankatahara (Sankashti) and Vinayakar (Vinayaki). -The monthly Chathurti day which falls after full moon is known as Sankatahara (Sankashti) Chaturthi.Sankadahara Chathurthi on 5 th December 2009 Saturday -The monthly Chaturthi after Amavasi or new moon is known as Vinayakar (Vinayaki )Chaturthi. 3 Karthigai Somavaram comes on Mondays in the Tamil Month Karthigai which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kartika Somavara Viratham is observed by Shiva devotees in the month and special pujas and rituals are held in Shiva temples in maintained by Tamil community. Fasting from sunrise to sunset is undertaken by many devotees. Ahanta Nama Bhajans for World Peace 27 th November 2009 Friday Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life, Remover of pain and sorrow, The Bestower of happiness, Oh! Creator of the Universe, May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light, May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction ( Hindu Rig Veda) On this Special day at Brisbane Selvavinayakar temple Ahanta Nama Bhajans will be performed for World Peace. Moksha Vilaku (Lamp) will be lighten with the Special Puja at 7.30pm

4 Thirukarthikai Theepam(Vilakeedu) on 1st December 2009 Tuesday. Thiru Karthikai Deepam Kaarthigai Deepam is celebrated in the Tamil month of Kaarthigai. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the Kaarthigai month which coincides with Karthikai star. It is celebrated in a special manner in Thiruvannamalai.In Hindu Puranam there is a story for this religious festival. Lord Shiva asks Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu to find out the exact location of his head and his feet. Since Lord Shiva takes a gigantic form, they are not able to find out anywhere. Then Lord Shiva takes the form of a large light of fire on the hill of Thiruvannamali. Here, a special torch is lighted on the zenith of the hill and it is believed that Lord Shiva's form of light will be visible on this day. On this day, people clean the houses. In the evening, they draw kolams (rangoli) in the front of the house and also place some lamps on it. The lamps(agal) are placed in the pooja and lighted. Then the Deeparathana is done in which the lamps are moved to different places in the house. The lamps glow all over the streets on this day. The lamps are arranged near the doors and windows and also in the balconies. In this way Hindus celebrate Kaarthigai Deepam for three days.
