1 GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO TO BE ANSWERED ON 9 TH DECEMBER, 2016 NABH SHRI BADRUDDIN AJMAL: SHRI RAJESHBHAI CHUDASAMA: Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state: (a) the number and names of the hospitals accredited by the National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH) including those that have got accreditation during the last two years, State/UT-wise; (b) the benefits being provided to patients and hospitals on account of such accreditation; and (c) the steps taken to ensure NABH accreditation of all the hospitals in the country? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (ANUPRIYA PATEL) (a) to (c ): As informed by National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare (NABH), as on date, 525 hospitals are NABH accredited, details of which are given in annexure. Benefits for Patients: Accreditation results in high quality of care and patient safety. The patients are serviced by credential medical staff. Rights of patients are respected and protected. Patients satisfaction is regularly evaluated. Benefits for Hospitals: Accreditation to a hospital stimulates continuous improvement. It enables hospital in demonstrating commitment to quality care. It raises community confidence in the services provided by the hospital. It also provides opportunity to healthcare unit to benchmark with the best. NABH Accredited Hospitals get 15% higher rate under CGHS Empanelment Schemes as compared to Non NABH Accredited hospitals. As per notification by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of (IRDA) all providers offering cashless services for Allopathic Treatment shall meet with the preaccreditation entry level certification standards laid down by NABH. NABH is not regulatory but autonomous body for quality improvement and patient safety. Since health is a state subject, it is the responsibility of the State Governments to take action in this regard. **********
