4 Chairman and President s Message With the blessings of Lord Rama, this year's committee which consists of youth and experienced, devoted and dedicated, hard working and passionate HARI volunteers made the year 2016 beautiful and memorable at HARI. As we wrap up this year, we would like to thank all the devotees, our two priests, sponsors, volunteers, and committee members for their great service to HARI and for making this place very divine, a place of peacefulness and comfort at the feet of Lord Ram. In 2016, we started HARI's 40th Anniversary celebrations with the 24 Hour recital of Ram Charit Manas, followed by '', Pu. Shri Bhupendrabhai Pandya's GITA pravachan then the HARI Maha Yagna/ Fair and Pu. Shri Muniji s Pravachan. Our devotees truly showed the community what a successful event means. All the programs had huge divine flow and they were very successful. Our devotees, without an exception, put in their best effort for HARI to make '' one of a kind. Dedication from 100+ volunteers, the generosity of over 130 sponsors, Beautiful performances from over 200 participants, Enthusiasm of devotees thru ticket purchases, $205,000+ in sponsorship amount all this speaks volumes of HARI Temple's Anniversary celebration. All the money raised from is being used to make the temple a safe, secure, and a beautiful place for HARI devotees. Several projects such as High Resolution video monitoring, Secured front door, Hand railing with ADA compliance for the ramp, Walkway with the Railing, Pervious surface parking, Entrance expansion for Buses, and Decoration lighting are some of the projects that became possible because of the 40th Anniversary celebration. We have focused on how we want to support the community this year. We not only wanted to help the HARI community, but also the local community that we live in. We have extended our scholarship to the local area High School Seniors. We have donated to Local Police department and township departments. We will be doing a food drive for the local food bank. We have donated to other charity organizations, etc. All this was possible only due to your support. Our Priests, Pu. Shri Naranji Pandya and Pu. Shri Seetharama Swamy are leading us in religious life thru pujas and preaching. We would like to sincerely thank our priests for their dedicated seva to Lord Rama and devotees. They have performed 300+ pujas at devotee homes and at the Temple this year, and more than that, they are very instrumental in inspiring and motivating HARI devotees. Our children are our asset. HARI School plays very important role in making our children the best. We would like to thank School Director, Dr. Dinesh Pai and Youth Forum Director, Mr. Vijay Varadarajan and the School Teachers, Volunteers, and School Committee for making HARI school very much part of our children's and parent's heart. The HARI newsletter is a primary source of communication to HARI devotees. Our sincere thanks to our editors Mr. Hiten Amin, Mr. Ashok Shukla and Mr. Jagannath Yedatore for their dedicated service. 4

5 Chairman and President s Message (continued) Throughout the year, HARI executive members have been very busy in coordinating HARI Programs and HARI facilitated programs. This is in addition to supporting the regular events at HARI such as Hanuman Chalisa, Govinda Namalu, Monthly Havan, Balaji Abhishekam, Jain Swadhyay puja, Satyanarayan Katha etc. We have also converted our members information and financial database to QuickBooks. We have streamlined lot of our communication. All this could not be possible without the support of our wonderful executive team and we sincerely thank our dedicated and very hardworking team of Mrs. Kalpana Sheth (Sr.VP), Mr. Ravi Venkatasubramanian (Treasurer), Mrs. Amita Shah (Co Treasurer), Mr. Ayyappan Ganesan (Secretary), Mr. Laxman Buddineni (VP), Mr. Sandeep K Gupta (VP), Mr. Shahshidhar Jasty (VP), Mr. Prakash Kolandra (VP), Mrs. Manjiri Pangarkar (VP), Mr. Atreia Sindiri (VP), Mr. Sunil Singh (VP) and Mr. Manoj Yadav (VP). Our Board of Trustees have been working with 24 hours a day positive energy levels this year. Thanks to our BOTs dedication, we are proud to say around 16 Capital projects are under progress at this time. All the projects were discussed and deliberated by the Board of Trustees before the projects were approved by them. Some of the projects status with pictures are being published in this newsletter. 8 HARI PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Happy Diwali and greetings from the PR committee, The start of fall season signals beginning of a countdown for the calendar year. We also start getting ready for celebrating important major Hindu festivals, and planning for the upcoming Holidays. This year we have seen lot of discussion on race and religion issues. HARI remains actively engaged in promoting unity and harmony within our community. Representing HARI, Dr. Mukul Parikh and Mr. Ashok Shukla recently attended an interfaith alliance event on September 11 th at the Beth El temple in Harrisburg. The event was organized by Interfaith Alliance of Pennsylvania and included representatives from other faiths including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. The discussions at the meeting were focused on power of people of different faiths working together to overcome hatred, bigotry and extremism. Senator Teplitz and the Mayor s representative also shared their views on the topic. Mr Hiten Amin attended the York Jewish Community Center s A Jew, a Muslim and a Hindu, all walk into a JCC event on Sept 20 and spoke about Hinduism. The event was well attended, with good publicity over the internet and in York Dispatch. Let s each continue to do our part in promoting Hindu values of patience, compassion, forbearance, and building better communities around us. The group organizes various activities few times a year, including trips to places that are of religious or historic importance. It was moderate to difficult hike and Hansaben Godhania led the group. Congratulation Hansaben! 3. Anandam Ladies work hard for preparing Tippani Dance for the fund raising program. Name of the participants are: Vimala Patel, Bharti Upadhyaya, Lina Parekh, Vasanti Parekh, Nayana Parikh, Sudha Patel, Hansa Jasani, Shobha Lathia, Nayana Shah, Usha Patel. 4. The group enjoyed Lunch and a Movie Rustom on August 17 th 5.. Anandam group held picnic on August 31 at Gifford Pinchot Park: 40 plus member participated. 6. Diwali Celebration is planned on October 25 with live entertainment program. Anandam Ladies will perform a folk dance on HARI Diwali/ Annakut. 11 Namaste, Students and Parents, HARI SCHOOL Wish you all a Very Blessed Dussehra! To our new students, welcome to HARI School; to our returning students, welcome back! HARI School makes it a Funday every Sunday! We started off with a very well attended Ganesha pooja on the school registration day. Diwali is around the corner and to mark this major Hindu festival, HARI School has organized a Diwali Food Drive. Please consider donating nonperishable, unexpired food items for this drive. Needless to say, the objective of this drive is to inculcate in our students, among others, the important Hindu values of charity (daanam) and compassion (dayaa). As promised last year, we have rolled out some exciting changes, which have made a positive impact on our students. With your support, we plan to add more spiritual spice to our students Sunday mornings, which will provide them with an opportunity to be better human beings. Our Hindi teachers are tweaking the newly adopted curriculum to also emphasize on spoken Hindi. Please cooperate with them as they go about achieving this important goal. I am excited to inform friends from Marathi community that our Marathi teachers are currently testing BMM s (Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal) curriculum; based on their experience, we may plan to adopt the curriculum very soon. Having a curriculum is great! But that s just half the job done. Our teachers hardwork will only fructify when you encourage your child to speak the language they are learning. Our all-encompassing religion curriculum has been formally adopted. I urge you to read through the curriculum, which has four levels. It is designed with an objective to give your child the very best of Hindu religion and culture. Each level has prescribed text books, which are collectible versions. I have heard from many parents how much they have enjoyed reading these books. The activities and events our students celebrate and enjoy at HARI are possible due to your active participation and volunteering. While your kids are taking classes, please seek out volunteer seva opportunities at the temple. By doing seva, we will be setting an example for our kids to emulate. This applies to all the committees and subcommittees except HARI Advisory committee which consists of all past presidents and past chairmen. 3) In Nov 2002, BOT and General Body approved the school fee changes to be considered under policy and School Fee was moved to under Registration section of Policy document, in 2009 BOT approved a school fee increase. Wording in the By-Laws document was not updated to reflect that. Upcoming print version of book will be updated to reflect the by-laws and policy document. 4) We have sponsorship pledge of around $205, towards the capital projects. Any unspent money from this money raised will be spent only towards the Capital projects promised in SAN- SKRITI.
