3 From the Editor s Desk Dear Readers, With our soaring economic development, and excellence in areas related to water, solar and agriculture today, we have become a shining example of what India itself can accomplish. However, this feat would not have been possible without the vision shown by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The desire to excel in every eld is a common trait shared by every Gujarati, and it was this characteristic that PM Modi tapped by encouraging greater people participation in 'Governance,' to make the state reach its full potential. Today, as we will read about in this edition, Gujarat is on the cusp of a new revolution with the closing of the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam. This decision is the best modern example of 'how sustained political will at both state and centre level can accomplish bold ambitions.' It also presents a classic case of 'how collaboration and not clash leads to win-win situation for competing states.' The resolution on the Narmada water dispute could not have been achieved without the support of our peer states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. By hosting the Textiles India 2017, Gujarat also showed that it was on the path of a potential job revolution in another eld- Textiles. This mega exhibition was the rst ever textile event of its kind, to be held in India, and showcased India's growing strength in this eld. With its pre-existing infrastructure and skilled manpower in place, Gujarat is a leader in textiles sector and is poised to lead India's growing clout at the global level. A story in this issue will give you a glimpse into the mega-event. We also bring you the coverage of the 15th edition of the state-wide Kanya Kelavani Yojana and the Shala Praveshotsav Campaign. As is evident from the statistics on enrolment in schools, the programmes have been an enormous success and are a testament to the Gujarat government's focus on holistic development. There is a very special story dedicated to the Father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of 100th anniversary of the Sabarmati Ashram and the Champaran movement, giving a peep into the pre-independence era. To mark the centenary, the state government organized a special function at the Ashram in the presence of PM Modi. The Gujarat government has also run a special train known as the Aastha Special between Sabarmati (Ahmedabad) and Champaran (Bihar) as a trip down the memory lane. The Gujarat government's vision and the ability to implement and mobilize people for governance initiatives has helped it achieve wonders in development, and made it a model for development for all Indian states. And with new developments in the Sardar Sarovar Dam project and progress made in textiles, Gujarat is likely to enter a new phase of development. 5 EDUCATION Gujarat Marching Ahead Shala Praveshotsav Building the Future of Education in Gujarat n June 8, 2017, OH o n ' b l e C h i e f Minister Shri Vijay Rupani began the 15th edition of the state-wide Kanya Kelavani Yojana and the Shala Praveshotsav Campaign, from the tribal village of Rupakheda, located in the Zalod taluka in the district of Dahod. During the inauguration of this campaign, CM Rupani recalled the beginning of the two noble initiatives in 2003 by Shri Narendra Modi. During the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister enrolled 58 eligible toddlers into school, including 30 boys and 28 girls. He also enrolled 36 Anganwadi children along with over 112 students who were eligible students for Standard 9. The Chief Minister said that the concept of empowering women through education has always been crucial for Shri Modi. Quoting the PM's words, Shri Rupani said, When you educate a man, you educate a person, but when you educate a woman you educate an entire family. During the launch of its 15th edition, CM Rupani stated that the two programmes, since inception, have focused on improving girl child education in the state and ensuring 100% school enrolment for students at the primary level. It has served as a great example of how Gujarat has managed to improve its primary education level, he added. CM Rupani also mentioned that Gujarat government had started utilizing more technology in their education system, with students being taught through a digital learning system, with over 2500 virtual classes. The Gujarat Government's n u m e r o u s p r o g r a m m e s f o r education, which are directed towards both ensuring enrolment of students and providing quality education, are indicative of Gujarat's more integrated approach to development. Today, the 'Gujarat model of development' is both a c k n o w l e d g e d a n d l a u d e d throughout India and the rest of the world. However, what is also been increasingly acknowledged over the years, is that the 'Gujarat Growth S t o r y ' i s n o t o n l y b u i l t o n industrialization, it is built on the foundation of what PM Modi called 'Holistic Development.' 6 Gujarat Marching Ahead perspective, the state government has managed to achieve tangible bene ts in many sectors of the economy. Today, Gujarat is not just an industrial powerhouse, but with double-digit agriculture growth in the past decade, it has also become an agricultural hub. It has also made signi cant progress in providing excellent infrastructure for infant & child healthcare, considerably reducing the MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate) and the IMR (Infant Mortality Rate). But to ensure that the successes achieved in these sectors continue, and enhanced further by future generations, PM Modi introduced a number of policies in the eld of education that would provide access to quality education f o r c h i l d r e n. O f p a r t i c u l a r signi cance, was the introduction of Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Abhiyan, which would give impetus to school enrollment, reduce dropouts and give greater incentives to girl child education. The school enrolment drive gets the personal attention of the Chief Minister, the tradition was begun by Shri Narendra Modi in 2003 when he visited schools across the state and participated in the enrolment process. Even today, the entire government machinery including the CM, Ministers of the government, senior bureaucrats and local administration mandatorily participates in the initiative. A 3-day long drive is conducted in rural areas, followed by a similar 3-day drive in urban areas. This year, the rural drive was held on June 7-9, On the nal day of the rural drive, a total of 4, 66,896 students were enrolled in primary schools, 3,66,922 students in secondary schools and 2,33,894 Aanganwandi students were enrolled. The urban phase, organized during June, facilitated enrolment of more than 2.5 lakh students, with 85,656 students enrolled in primary classes and 1,77,240 students took admission in secondary schools. Deputy CM Patel spoke about how India is a nation of festivals, and how today Shala Praveshotsav has become a festival of public awareness. Shri Chudasma appealed to parents about how crucial it was for them to emphasize the importance of an education to their children. Their contribution would help improve the state's education and help it reach 100% enrolment. Currently, the overall drop-out ratio has reduced from 37% to just 7% across the state, thanks to the continuous efforts of the state government. July

However, the critical aspect of reducing drop-outs is achieved by a more intense round the year exercise. Scratch the surface and you will nd that government of cials part-taking in these drives also inspect and assess the quality of education, teaching pattern, and take rst-hand experience of basic facilities including drinking water, mid-day meals, toilet facility etc. Over the years, the state government has painstakingly strived to improve the c o m p r e h e n s i v e s c h o o l environment, resulting in a sharp decline in the drop-out rate. Here is a list of basic amenities and facilities in schools that have improved remarkably, thus aiding in reducing drop-outs and improving enrolments. Under this scheme, gifts that were given to the CM were then auctioned and then utilized through a fund for the education of the girl child in Gujarat. This fund has now been institutionalized and the government receives contributions from industrialists, social organisations, educational institutions and ordinary citizens. 7 July 2017

8 Gujarat Marching Ahead WATER RESOURCES Gujarat s Water Initiatives Achieving Development through Political Will n the coming decades, July I1 7, w i l l b e r e m e m b e r e d a s a signi cant turning point in the development history of Gujarat. This date, marked the of cial 'completion' of Gujarat's historic Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP), more than 56 years since it was rst of cially launched. On this occasion, the Gujarat government was granted permission by the Narmada Control Authority (NCA) to close the sluice gates and ll it with the waters of the Narmada. The closure of the dam gates in actuality represents an opening for all of Gujarat. In fact Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani and Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Nitin Patel went as far as to say that this decision marked the beginning of a new green revolution for Gujarat. Till date, Gujarat was recognized throughout India, as a mostly dry and arid state. Despite the success Gujarat has had in creating a highly ef cient and integrated water management system, due to its climate the state's agriculture is still dependent on the rains for its water needs. But, with the permission given by the Narmada Control Authority (NCA), the project can nally be completed and one of the key July

9 Gujarat Marching Ahead bene ts will be that it will allow the state to nally be able to shift its reliance on canal-based irrigation. The completion of the dam also provides a number of other bene ts for the state including the following:- Ÿ Ÿ Better irrigation facilities for hectares of land covering 3112 villages of 73 talukas in 15 districts of Gujarat. Special Allocation of 0.86 MAF Ÿ Ÿ (million acre feet) of water t o p r o v i d e drinking water to 131 urban centres and 9633 villages (53% of total villages of Gujarat) w i t h i n a n d o u t - s i d e command in Gujarat for present population of 28 million and prospective population of over 40 million by the year Creation of two power houses i.e. a River Bed Power House and Canal Head Power House with an installed capacity of 1200 MW and 250 MW respectively. A Victory of Development & Political Will The nal 'completion' of India's largest dam represents more than j u s t a s y m b o l o f G u j a r a t ' s development; it is a representation of the power of political will and what it can accomplish. Prior to independence, as early as 1946 during the time of the interim government, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, visualized the potential of a dam on the Narmada River. And on April 5, 1961, Sardar Patel's dream came to fruition as the foundation stone for the dam was rst laid. Unfortunately, for the next few decades a combination of n e g l i g e n c e a n d h o s t o f controversies, bogged down the project and led to it being undeveloped. 9 July 2017

10 Gujarat Marching Ahead However, this changed when Hon'ble Prime Minster Shri Narendra Modi rst took charge as Chief Minister of Gujarat in With slogans of Jalshakti, Janshakti, Gyanshakti, Rakshashakti and Urjashakti, PM Modi gave the project renewed hope and vigour. And, through cooperation with partner states, the height of the dam was raised continuously. First it was raised to 95 metres in July 2002, it was then raised to 100 metres by July 2003 and nally by June 2004 it was raised to metres; and on March 8, 2006 the NCA had given permission to raise the height of the dam to metres and work had begun. However, objections to the project from certain outside sources, had contributed to a sudden reversal of the decision made by the NCA and they stayed work on the project. Knowing the importance of this project to Gujarat's future, PM Modi vehemently opposed the NCA's decision and went on a 51 hour fast on April 16, The decision by PM Modi, forced the UPA government at the centre at the time to reverse the decision to take the dam's height to metres. This decision and the decision taken by the NCA on July 17, 2017, is a testament to the July

11 Gujarat Marching Ahead On June 29, 2017 Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi welcomed the arrival of the Narmada River in to the Aji Dam, near Rajkot. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister recalled that there was a time when Gujarat faced tremendous water shortages. Now however, the state has come far and is moving forward on its developmental journey. He further stated that if more people have access to water, then more doors of progress will open for the state, and the Government is committed to giving water as soon as possible. indomitable will of PM Modi and the Gujarat government and is a showcase for what political will is capable of achieving. SAUNI Yojana One of the major parts of Gujarat's Water Revolution, has been the SAUNI Yojana otherwise known as the Saurashathra Narmada Avtaran irrigation Yojana. The project was rst launched in September 2012, to help alleviate the consistent droughts t h a t p l a g u e d Saurashtra for many years. But beyond, supplying water to the region, PM M o d i a l s o envisioned it as a m u l t i - p u r p o s e project i.e. it would also irrigate the r e g i o n ' s e l d s, provide water to the reservoirs and utilize the Narmada River's water runoff from the monsoons. Gujarat has allocated 1 MAFT (Million Acre Feet) i.e. 43,500 Mcft (Million Cubic Feet), of the over ow of the Narmada River, to the Saurashtra region. Once completed the project will connect all 115 reservoirs in the region and will help strengthen the irrigation facilities of more than 10 Lakh acres of Land. On June 9, 2017, CM Rupani dedicated Link 4 of Phase 1 of the SAUNI project at Jasdan in Rajkot district. Through this project, the Narmada and canal and other pipeline based schemes will now be linked with the city of Jasdan's Ankadiya dam near its famous Panchal bhoomi. The dam is now brimming with water after 25 years. During the inauguration of the link, CM Rupani stated that the SAUNI Yojana so far has lled up 21 dams, 48 lakes and 174 check dams, and contracts have been awarded for more works worth Rs.6500 Crore to be completed soon. But, what is also worth noting is that with the decision taken by the N C A o n t h e S S P, a l s o h a s implications for SAUNI, as further work on the project can now commence. SAUNI thus is a true testament to the long-term vision of P M M o d i a n d t h e G u j a r a t government as it is indicative of how prepared they are to take the state forward, with the decision on the Narmada dam, as they already have the roadmap for it in place. 11 July 2017

12 Gujarat Marching Ahead Kadana Lift Irrigation Project Through the 'completion' of t h e S S P d a m, t h e G u j a r a t government will now be able to carry out PM Modi's vision to bring water to all of Gujarat's citizens. And on June 8, 2017 CM Rupani laid the foundation for one such initiativethe Rs. 1,054 Crore dam-based lift irrigation scheme in Kadana. According to Shri Nanubhai Vanani, w h o w a s p r e s e n t f o r t h e inauguration, PM Modi had envisioned that the Kadana dambased scheme would lift water 1,300 feet through a 140km long pipeline. Once complete, this scheme will help change the face of all 207 villages in the 7 talukas of Dahod as well as the Santrampur Taluka of Mahisagar district. A New Phase in Gujarat's Development process The political will shown in the past by the Gujarat government at the state level and currently the Union government at the national level, is a testament to how India can become a developed nation if those in charge have the will to see it through. As CM Rupani stated, the decision on the Narmada dam will bring unprecedented bene ts to Gujarat, and will help transform it to a less arid and dry state. The potential development bene ts are endless and as can be seen above from the development of projects such as SAUNI and the Kadana lift irrigation project, the Gujarat government has begun putting in place the infrastructure needed to shift Gujarat into a more developed state. 14 Gujarat Marching Ahead Textiles India 2017' was a three day trade fair that was held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar and concluded on July 2, U n i o n M i n i s t e r f o r U r b a n Development Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Union Textile Minister Smt Smriti Irani, Minister of State for Textiles Shri Ajay Tamta and Secretary of Union Ministry of Textiles Shri Ananth Kumar delivered gave valedictory speech on the nal day of this mega textile fair. Textiles India 2017 was the rst-of-its-kind textiles show to ever be held in India in which 2,500 o v e r s e a s b u y e r s f r o m countries, 15,000 domestic visitors, 22 roundtable conferences and 6 conferences were held. Apart from this, a Textile Exhibition with 1,500 exhibitors was also held which was open to public. The mega exhibition showcased India's strength in the entire gamut of textile and apparel value chain. The event was inaugurated amid much fanfare by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on June 30, During his inaugural address, the Prime Minister stressed on the 5F formula to promote the export of textiles 'Farm to bre, bre to factory, factory to fashion and fashion to foreign'. Emphasising on the need to conserve the environment, the Prime Minister said that efforts should be made to promote organic fabric products as the demand for such goods has been increasing globally. Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani, during his address said that the primary focus o f t h e g o v e r n m e n t w a s t o strengthen the hold of Gujarat textiles in international market. He also lauded the efforts of PM Modi and recounted that when Modi ji was the Chief Minister of Gujarat he had laid the foundation for the textile revolution in the state. He launched the Textile Policy 2012 and it was because of this policy that Gujarat has succeeded in bringing a revolutionary change in the eld of textiles. T h e t h r e e - d a y e v e n t witnessed the participation of several international delegates such as fashion designers, exhibitors and industry experts from South Korea, July

15 Gujarat Marching Ahead Russia, Bangladesh and ASEAN who discussed ways to strengthen ties with India in the eld of textiles. Apart from international delegates, several central ministers as well as representatives of various states such as Telangana, Karnataka and Jharkhand among others participated in the textile fair with the view to promote the textile sector of their respective states. Andhra Pradesh and Assam participated in Textiles India 2017 as partner states. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu N a i d u s a i d d u r i n g a p r e s s c o n f e r e n c e t h a t h i s s t a t e government has invested Rs 5,000 Crore in the sector. Shri PN Das, Director of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Assam said the textile industry in Assam is not very advanced but has huge potential as it has good conditions to do business in the state. Two spectacular fashion shows were also organised at the event. The rst show 'Symphony of Weaves' celebrated the story of Indian Textiles showcasing exquisite innovation in craft and design. The fashion show was fully supported by stalwarts from the fashion industry including designers like Anita Dongre, Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani among others. The second show presented the story of 'India Handloom Brand' a initiative launched by Hon'ble Prime Minister on National Handloom Day in It focuses on branding of high quality and defect-free niche handloom products with minimal impact on environment, increasing the earnings of the weavers and other stakeholders of the handloom industry and generating a special market space for handloom products. During the course of the event the Ministry of Textiles signed as many as 65 MoUs in the textile sector with domestic as well as international organisations from industry and government. The MoUs signed relate to exchange of information and documentation, research and development, commercialisation of handloom products and silk production, cooperation in geo-textiles, skill development and supply of cotton and trade promotion with overseas partners. 15 July 2017

It has abundant supply of raw material like cotton, jute, silk and man-made bre, which provides the country a distinct advantage over other countries. The resulting higher demand of products offers a huge domestic market for textile products. Gandhiji through his tenets of self-reliance, satyagrah and thrift, and Shrimad Rajchandra Ji through his religious and spiritual knowledge showed the world the right path to follow through truth and non-violence. 19 Gujarat Marching Ahead Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's Visit to Sabarmati Ashram On June 29, 2017, Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sabramati Ashram in Ahmedabad during his visit to Gujarat. He attended a programme organized by the Government of India and paid tribute to Shrimad Rajchandra Ji, the spiritual guide of Mahatma Gandhiji. 21 The Ashram became the centre point for India's freedom movement and the establishment of a non-violent society. From here, Gandhiji started promoting Khadi, farming, new training, abolition of social evils like untouchability and other disparities. Under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi, the residents of the Ashram dedicated their life in search of truth and developed new ideals of social life. It is a well known fact amongst the citizens of India that this Ashram is known for organising 'Dandi March' on March 12, Gandhiji started his historic 'Dandi Yatra' along with 78 ashram followers from 14 different states with the promises of 'not returning to the ashram until independence was attained'. As many as 60,000 freedom ghters across the country were jailed for supporting the march. Since everybody was arrested, the Ashram wore a deserted look. Later, Gandhiji dissolved the Ashram and inspired his followers to provide their services to the nation. Gujarat Marching Ahead In 1933, the local residents of the Ashram decided to save it and started a school for Dalit girls and the promotion of Khadi village industries among other things. In 1947, India got its independence but lost the Father of the Nation. After his death, Gandhi Smarak Nidhi decided to preserve the Ashram's land and property as Gandhi memorial and promote his ideals of peace and non violence. Thus, in the year 1951, the Sabarmati Ashram Security & Memorial Trust was formed which started promoting the ideals and the message of the Father of the Nation to the masses. The Ashram completed 100 years on June 17, 2017 and in the last 100 years, this ashram has contributed to the struggles and development works. Addressing the gathering, the Hon'ble PM said that the Divyangs are my family and the government is doing everything possible to help them lead a life of dignity and self-respect. h e p r o g r a m a l s o Tincluded a rendition of the National Anthem by 1442 deaf and dumb children in symbolic language, creating a world record. Furthermore, 786 Divyangs were presented calipers creating yet another world record and also registered in a new category of Guinness Book of World Record. Thus, in total three world records were created during the program. Another interesting feature of the program was that it was also relayed in sign language for the bene t of the Divyangs. The PM has launched initiatives for the welfare of the Divyangs. Realizing that the sign language in the country varies from place to place he decided that only a single sign language will now be followed across the country. Also, as the aptitude of a Divyang child is not similar to other children, their passing marks in examinations have been reduced from 35 to 25. After the interaction with Divyangs, Shri Modi proceeded towards the Aji Dam site to welcome the arrival of Narmada river waters in the city's main water reservoir, solving its perennial water woes. The dam has been lled with water of Narmada under Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation Yojna (SAUNI), which envisages lling up 115 dams of the parched region by laying a network of pipelines from canals of the Narmada dam project. Reminiscing his initial days after taking over as the Gujarat chief minister in 2001, Modi said soon after his becoming the CM he came to Rajkot to worship at Aji dam after it received water to the brim a rare event that has taken place only eleven times in the last 40 years. He added that the constant supply of water in the dams in Saurashtra region connected under SAUNI Yojana will help farmers reach new heights of prosperity. Equating this water to prasad the Hon'ble PM also urged people to use it judiciously by saving and reusing it. He also praised the farmers in Kutch for having adopted drip irrigation which has helped in changing the face of farming in this arid land and urged the farmers of Saurashtra to adopt similar practices. After arriving at the Aji dam, a road show was organized in Rajkot. Despite the rain, Lakhs of people thronged the streets of the city to see a glimpse of the Prime Minister and showered him with rose petals and garlands. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that Gujarat Government has through its fast track projects taken water to nooks and corners of the state to ful ll the aspirations and expectations of the people. Today, the event is one of the largest in India and is organized not only as a means of boosting the overall tness of the people of Gujarat, but also as a way of spreading awareness about sports in general, as the event is held at the district and even taluka level. In addition to this the Khel Mahakumbh seeks to nd new talent and give them the proper skills, as well as develop a detailed database of all sportspersons from across Gujarat. In the last edition, more than 40 Lakh youths registered from all across the State for village and state level competitions. More than 50,000 players at the state level took part in 736 different events, organised across 25 Districts, Objective of Khel Mahakumbh Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ encompassing 30 different sports. As a result of the previous 6 editions of the Khel Mahakumbh, more than 2000 players have been admitted to sports schools run via PPP model by the Gujarat Government. What is the most important part of your day? A. 1 : I take walks regularly in the morning. Usually I don't nd enough time to spend on my health. But whenever I get the time I exercise. Apart from this, I also perform pooja for about 20 minutes daily. Q.2 : How do you maintain a balance between work and personal life? A. 2 : Initially I faced a few problems, because I was young and I didn't have much experience. My father was in politics for 30 years and I have learnt a lot from him over the years. So now I don't too many dif culties in nding a balance between my personal and work life. Q. 3 : Where did you do your studies from? A. 3 : I did my primary education from my village Jamkandorana and I completed my secondary education from Dhoraji. I studied Civil Engineering from MS University in Baroda. Q.4 : How did you enter politics? A. 4 : In 1998 when I was in college, the student elections were going on. Since I grew up in a political family, I was keen on contesting the elections. So I contested and won the post of general secretary. That was the start of my political career. Q.5 : Apart from politics, are you also interested in any other eld? A. 5 : Since childhood it was my dream to become a good businessman. I was also into construction business for three years after college. But later I decided to enter politics. Q.6 : Who is your role model? A. 6 : I consider my father Shri Vitthalbhai Radadiya as my ideal. I have learnt everything from him. I am living my life according to the path shown by him. Q. 7 : Sir, what do you do in your free time? A. 7 : I prefer to spend free time with my kids. Due to my political life, I get very little time to spend with my family. Apart from this I also give time to all the organisations that I am attached with. Q. 8 : What is your favourite sport and do you play it? A. 8 : I have loved cricket since I was a boy. Whenever I get time I always play cricket with my friends. A Day-Night Cricket Tournament was held in my constituency in which I played in a match between BJP XI and Sarpanch XI. I scored 50 runs in the game and through the efforts of the whole team, we won the match. Q. 9 : 'Maa AnnapurnaYojana' is one of the most successful schemes in Gujarat and it has been implemented during your tenure. How have you implemented this scheme throughout the state? A. 9 : This scheme was started for the poor people of the state to provide them grains at a low cost. According to a survey conducted in 2011, 28.8 million people bene ted through the scheme across the state. The central government gave us a target of 3 Crore 28 Lakhs, which we have now almost reached. Although some corrupt people were bene ting from the scheme, we have taken action against them and the names of those people are being removed from the list. I have told the Sarpanches of 48 villages coming under my constituency to remove the names of those who are taking incorrect advantage of this scheme, and ensure that only those who are eligible bene t from it. Q.10 : What steps have been taken to further strengthen the PDS (Public Distribution System) and make it more transparent? A. 10 : Gujarat has a total of fair price shops. We have made the entire PDS cashless thus making it completely transparent. Throughout India, Gujarat is the number one state in the implementation of Aadhar Enabled Payment Systems (AEPS). Q.11 : What preparations has Gujarat made for the implementation of GST (Goods & Service Tax)? What are the bene ts that customers and citizens can expect from it? July

37 Gujarat Marching Ahead A. 11 : The central government has taken the historic decision of implementing GST which is going to bene t the entire country. My constituency, Jetpur is a hub for sarees. I have organized a seminar for traders to help them understand the bene ts of GST. The other regions of Gujarat have also made similar preparations for the implementation of GST and I'm sure that the entire state will bene t from it. Q.12 : Sir, kindly tell us about some of the important achievements made by the three departments under you. A. 12 : Earlier we were able to provide the BPL (Below Poverty Line) families with cotton seed oil only twice per annum. But now this is provided 4 times between the monsoon season and Diwali as a lot of festivals fall during this period. 36 lakh BPL and Antyodaya families across the s t a t e h a v e bene tted from this. Apart from this, we used to provide 4.15 kg wheat and 750 gm rice per month, but the people had been asking to double the quantity of rice. We put forth this request to the Hon'ble Minister for Food and Public distribution Shri Ram Vilas Paswan who agreed to the request. Now we provide 1.5 kg rice to Rapid Fire Q. Which is your favorite tourist destination? A. Nathdwara in Rajasthan. Q. What is your favorite attire? A. Denim Jeans and T-shirt. Q. Which cuisine do you enjoy? A. Kathiawadi. I usually have Gathia for breakfast. And in desserts I enjoy Mohanthal. about 3.82 crore people every month. The ration cards of bene ciaries across the state are being linked to their Aadhar card. 94 % of this work had been completed by March 2017 and the rest will soon be completed. We have promoted organizing of fairs in order to promote small craftsmen from the cottage industry. We have also promoted the use of khadi for school uniforms in order to provide a boost to the khadi industry and the schools of Chotila district have been chosen for the pilot project. Every school in the district has been provided with 2 pairs of uniform. There has been a notable increase in employment of the khadi workers as a result of the initiative. We have set a target to provide khadi uniforms to 50,000 students this year. Q.13 : What message would you like to give to the youth of Gujarat? A. 13 : The youth of Gujarat are extremely talented and enthusiastic. I would just like to tell them to take up a path of their choice and consistently work hard at it. If we look at our history, then after the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, PM Modi is the only leader whose popularity is at its peak and the public wholeheartedly supports all his welfare initiatives. True change is only possible in this country through public participation and the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a perfect example of it. Since its launch over a year ago, the scheme has become one of the most successful to have bene tted poor and deprived communities directly. As a result, the Ujjwala scheme was launched with the money that was saved from subsidies that were recovered, and it ensured that every poor woman of the country would get an LPG connection. For years now, Crores of women have been forced to use polluting methods of c o o k i n g s u c h a s kerosene oil and cow d u n g f o r c o o k i n g purposes. This has signi cantly impacted their health and has led to serious ailments like asthma, lung cancer and other respiratory ailments. So far, more than 2.37 Crore women from below the poverty line, have been provided with an LPG connection free of cost. The Government of Gujarat is walking on the path shown by the Prime Minister. Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani is working very hard to implement the schemes of the Centre and take them to their conclusion. Recently, CM Rupani distributed over 10,000 gas kits under the PM Ujjwala scheme to women in Surat. Over 9 lakh people have bene ted in Gujarat with this scheme. Chinese Auto-Maker SAIC Inks MoU with Gujarat Government to setup Auto Facility at Halol (July 5, 2017) The Gujarat government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China based Shanghai Automotive Industries (SAIC), to set up an automobile facility at Halol. The MoU was signed in the presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani. This project is considered as a materialization of the efforts taken by the Gujarat government during Vibrant Gujarat 2017, under the leadership of CM Rupani.
