9 SRI SATHYA SAI SEVA ORGANISATION(INDIA), ODISHA Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation is the history of advent of Sri Sathya Sai Avatar and His Divine Love flowing through the Divine Manifestations in all corners of the globe. The main architect and motivator for the formation of any unit of the Organisation is Bhagawan Baba Himself. Sri Sathya Sai Organization is a divine gift to the human civilization that speaks of the teachings and His blessings to the underprivileged across the globe and is a manifestation of the Avatar itself. After the historic announcement of Avatar in October,1940, the seekers flocked to Puttaparthi on pilgrimage. They found fulfillment of their journey experiencing Sai as 'Sarva Devata Swarupam' and transformed themselves into devotees. Their hearts get thrilled at the heart throbbing bhajans rendered by Swami himself. They observed with awe and ecstasy of the activities of seva performed there. The spiritual & divine experience derived through listening to discourses brought in celestial changes in each individual. The devotees carried the holy goodwill of the Swami s godhood and began an environment of love, compassion and the aura at their places by recreating the learning of his holiness. They started initially with Bhajan, Nagar Sankirtan, Narayan Seva and formed Samithis to expand further. Thus in our humble effort of experiencing Sai in our own places and to cultivate nearness with Him by engaging ourselves in activities so dear to Him, an integrated path of sadhana takes birth which we call by the name Sri Sathya Sai Seva organization. The Seva takes every Sai devotees to His proximity and the devotees while engaged in these activities ultimately experience Anandam and the gradual phase of transformation to true Sai devotees. To carry bhajans in a systematic and regular manner Sri Sathya Sai Bhajan Centre was inaugurated for the first time in Prashanthi Nilayam in the Divine presence in March, Sai Bhajan movement gathered momentum in the following years. In 1965 this movement started spreading in Orissa along with other states. The first ever samithi under the name 'Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi was formed in Bombay as a registered body. Upon tremendous success of the Bombay Samithi, other states soon followed suit. In Odisha, the first Seva samithi was formed in March In Jatni Town in the undivided Puri District and thereafter it expanded to other districts of the state. Presently there are 195 Samithis operating in the entire state spearheading the message of the supreme lord & HIS preaching. Sathya Sai Organisation is actively carrying out service activities in the entire state through Bhajan Mandali, Seva group and Samithis of respective districts. In the State of Odisha, we have 35 SAI Districts. Bigger districts like Keonjhar, Baleswar, Bhadrak, Ganjam & Khurda have been divided into two for better coordination and monitoring. There are 201 Samithis and 712 Bhajan Mandalis. Page No. 7

Our Organization is acknowledged in the State as a disciplined organization committed to the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and playing a significant role in the socio-economic life of the State with an undercurrent of spirituality. The Mahilas(Sisters) in the Organization are a vibrant force dedicated to Bhagawan and his teachings and have a forum named" Sanathani" which promotes art, culture and literature through observance of traditional festivals. It also brings out a literary magazine annually bringing to light the rich literary talent among the sisters. Odisha is the only State in India which has translated the entire Sai literature into regional language, Odia and has the largest circulation of Sanatahan Sarathi and Bal-Vikash in India. The Bal-Vikash in Odisha has a continuous growth with children from all walks of life enrolling themselves in the Bal-Vikash centers. 13 Service-The Royal Way to God "Engage yourselves in service activity. Consider social service as service to God. This is the best way to earn God's Love. Love all and serve all. Your entire life will be sanctified thereby." - Sri Sathya Sai Baba Page No. 11

14 SRI SATHYA SAI SEVA ORGANISATION, ODISHA IN SAI SERVICE "The service activities that we undertake are meant to experience unity in the community. It is great mistake if you think that you are serving others. In fact, you should not consider anybody as "other" in this World, for all are embodiments of divinity" -Sri Sathya Sai Baba - Though there are many path-ways to God realization, yet the easiest among them is the path of service - for it is not confined to any boundaries or borders and completely secular in nature thus propagating pure love and compassion. Service essentially is a spontaneous feeling for serving and helping the needy in any form. In other words, service is actually the true character of the human body. The service is rendered in communities across the globe with an underlying concept of the person who serves is the person served. Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, Love All Serve All, Help Ever Hurt Never and The Hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray. Encompassing this Divine concept, the service wing of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, coordinates internally to help compliment the activities of the spiritual and educational wing as well. The activities conducted include Sri Sathya Sai Village Integrated Programme, Sri Sathya Sai Holistic Health Care, Sri Sathya Sai Integrated Animal Care, Seva during Disasters / Natural calamities, National Narayan Seva etc. All these services are dedicated to His Lotus Feet to reinforce the beliefs of His followers on the master. In the years gone by, the organization never looked back and pursued the mission of Bhagawan with dedication and exemplary commitment. This could be only possible with Swami s infinite Grace and blessings to the people of Orissa. With His holy blessing, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation has presence in impervious wild forest of Dandaka Aranya, rain starved barren land of Kalahandi to coast line and Maoist affected tribal areas. The SAI volunteers have overcome all odds and be there when Swami wants His devotees to be there. Page No. 12

15 41ST STATE CONFERENCE AT KHORDHA A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE IN THE PROGRESS OF THE ORGANIZATION The year 2017 started with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, Odisha. It was on 22nd January 2017 that the devotees in Odisha had assembled in the small town of Khorda, to attend the 41 st State Conference of the Organization. Though Khorda was a small town, it left no stone unturned to make the celebrations as spectacular as any of the conferences in the past. State Conference in Odisha is a mega event in which every year 1500 to 2000 delegates, from 201 Samithis & 712 Bhajan Mandalis participate to take stock of what the Organization had achieved in the previous year and what new programmes to initiate in the current year. Last year the theme of the 40 th Conference at Cuttack was to develop the Right Attitude whereas this year s focus is on UNITY. To achieve Trikarana Suddhi at the individual level Swami has emphasized on how we should think, speak and act. At the organisation level we devotees must inculcate the feeling of Entrance to the Conference Venue oneness (Ekatva Bhava) and forget our differences, likes and dislikes. 41 st State conference contemplated on the theme: Sangachhadhwam (Act and proceed together), Samobodhwam (Speak in one voice) and Sambomanansi Yanatam (Think alike in one mind). Delegates to the conference were thrilled with the presence of Sri Nimish Pandya, All India President and Sri N. Ramani, National Vice President along with other National Coordinators, and immensely benefited with their insights through different deliberations. The youth of Odisha had a marathon run in the early hours of 22nd heralding the dawn of a Sai Samrajya in Odisha, which started at Jatni, the place known Swami s Altar at Conference Venue for the first Samithi in the state and ended at the venue in Khorda which also finds a place in the annals of history as the place where the brave Paikas waged a battle against the mighty Britishers for the freedom of the nation. The dignitaries and delegates were awe-struck seeing the fierce energy and quick reflexes of the youth performing Paika Dance. Participants in well planned groups brainstormed on different activities of the Organization, sat for long hours to prepare the strategy for the growth of the organization both in volume and size, keeping 2025, the centenary year of the advent in view. 18 PREMA SANJEEVANI-LIFE SAVING LIQUID LOVE In Odisha Prema Sanjeevani is a household name given by us to our Blood Donation Programme which has the reputation all over the state as the flagship programme of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization (India) Odisha. This programme has drawn the attention of the State Government as one of the frontline contenders every year in collection of blood. This is amply demonstrated by the fact that for the last consecutive six years we have been felicitated by the State Government for its consistent performance. Odisha being a n eco- nomically backward state people are prone to diseases resulting from deficiency of blood. With the growth of industry and infra-structure taking place by way of construction of roads, buildings, bridges, warehouses, irrigation canals and excavation of mines (Odisha is a state rich in mineral resources), incidence of accidents is always on the rise.. In contrast the availability of blood is a problem due to lack of awareness in public. Moreover blood banks are few and far between for which patients often die for want of blood. Therefore, the existing blood banks are always on the short supply and often fall back on NGOs and other voluntary organizations for collection of blood by conducting blood donation camps. Shortage of blood becomes more acute in the summer months i.e. during April-June, when due to excessive heat people generally reluctant to donate blood. Blood banks run dry and getting blood becomes extremely difficult. To mitigate this problem our organization goes on a massive drive to collect blood in these lean months under the caption Amrita Bindu, meaning Drops of Nectar. Ours is the only Organization which takes up this special drive and the collection in these difficult months has become phenomenal with as much as 6000 units in a matter of three months. Felicitation by Hon ble CM, Odisha Each of our Samithis have a data base of potential donors and donors having rare blood groups. Whenever anyone in need of blood approaches any Samithi, the Sevadal in-charge of blood donation scans the data base and finds out the nearest donor who had given blood some 4 to 6months back and contacts them over phone. All our donors are committed to donate blood immediately on getting the call. Donors with rare groups are advised not to donate their blood in camps but be ready to donate blood when there is an urgent requirement. As we have over the years built up a rapport with the blood bank officials they fully cooperate with us in times of need. Every Samithi is given a target to hold the number of camps in a year which is incorporated in their action plan. These camps are held in a spiritually charged atmosphere inside the prayer hall with Sai Gayatri chanting which constantly ringing in the year of the donor that leads to a divine feeling during the blood donation. People volunteer to donate blood thinking that it is an offering (Naivedyam) to the lord and those who are rejected on grounds of health or lack of blood, lament over their rejection. Thus, the Prema Sanjeevani programme has become a movement with mass participation. Blood as Liquid Love has succeeded in uniting the people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or language. 24 INNAUGURAL FUNCTION OF SARVA DHARMA STUPA History stands as a mute witness to the landmark events in the life of an Avatar, which inspires the successive generations to do something equally grand that will shape the destiny of mankind. In the olden days when printing press was not there, the rulers built huge monuments like the Red Forte or Tajmahal or left behind relics like the ones we find in Dhauli near Bhubaneswar or constructed huge Sthupas like the ones in Sanchi. These reminders of the past stand the test of time and last for centuries, while the printed or hand written paper is subject to decay with the passage of time. One such Sthupa is the SarvaDhamaSthupa, the message of which is the basic tenet on which the Avatharic Mission of BhagawanSathya Sai Baba rests. The Avathar is far ahead of his times. Swami in his childhood, while studying at Kamalapuram used to sing one prayer which spoke of Unity of faiths. The message that He wanted to convey was not necessarily to the people of Kamalapurm or its nearby villages, as those villagers irrespective of their religion lived in harmony. This message was for the future Indians who will grow in an atmosphere of religious intolerance which will divide the nation into two on the basis of religion. His clarion call in his teens to lead a life on the basis of human values was not meant for the poor and illiterate villagers of Puttaparthy who knew not what Human Value means but had abundance of selfless love in their hearts which they generously gave to one another. His song on Human values was addressed to the future generations who will lead lives bereft of human values and lead this beautiful planet to the brink of disaster. The Sarva Dharma Sthupa at Prashanti of 50ft. height was raised to commemorate the 50th year of the advent of the Avathar and carried the message of Unity of Faiths, which is relevant even to this day and will continue to remain relevant as long as men of different faiths do not cast off their differences and learn to live in peace and brotherhood. The inspiration to build this Sthupa came as a flash of lightening from our beloved Lord, when the devotees from Odisha were visibly shaken by the tumultuous events of April 2011 and the Organization was drawing up programmes involving their mass participation, where they will stop brooding over their loss and march towards building a Sai Samrajya in Odisha, keeping Swami s 90th birth day in view. A target of 100 Crore Nama Japas was set to be reached in three years and the program was launched on the Ganesh Chaturthi of Devotees all over the state were motivated to write the Namas and with Divine Grace, very soon it became a movement. Young and old, school children, blind children from blind schools, prisoners inside jails, patients in the hospitals, all joined the movement. Illiterate people were motivated to learn at least how to write Om Sai Ram in this birth and they too joined the NaamaYagnya. There was no compulsion to write only the name of Sai. They were asked to write the name of their IstaDevatha or Guru and that brought devotees of different orders and faiths to join the movement. Japa Books were printed in large numbers to meet the requirement and for the convenience of writing; even pocket size books were printed. The target at last could be reached in three years. During the movement devotees felt Bhagavan s presence in many ways. The construction of the sthupa started. Much later we could know that once Swami had created a medallion with India map carved on it. This medallion had identified certain places which will be centres of Spiritual Excellence and Odisha also had found a place in it. Speaking to the Students that day, in whose presence Swa- Page No. 22

25 mi had created the medallion; He had said that in each of these places, there will be a Sthupa or a college. It is Bhagawan s abundant Grace on Odisha that we were blessed with a college 35 years back and today Swami has doubly blessed us by giving this beautiful Sthupa which will remind generation after generation Odia people, the love that the Avathar of the Age had for them and the manner in which their forefathers reciprocated the same by their sincere and dedicated service. From the above account, one can know that it is no human effort but sheer Bhagawan s Grace that could make this Sthupa possible. Needless to say that Swami is very much present here today 100 Crores Names of Bhagawan with proper packing placed beneath the Stupa and these rain drops are the blessings He is showering on all of us. Another miracle worth mentioning here is that, around the Sthupa we had 5 huge pits where the NaamaJapa books in thousands were to be kept. There was lot of apprehension that the five pits will be insufficient to accommodate this huge pile of books, but ultimately it was found that the pits could just accommodate that many numbers of books, neither less nor more. This Sthupa is of Sarva Dharma Stupa Inaugurated by Brother Shri R. J. Ratnakar, Trustee, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust 36ft height has gained historical importance, as this stands out as the tallest Stupa in Odisha. One more thing to note here is that Temple sculptors from Andhra joined the masons from Odisha to make this dream a reality in record time. This Sthupa soon will become a centre of pilgrimage as this will radiate Page No. 23

26 powerful Divine vibrations generated from 100 crore Names of the Lord written by thousands of devotees, pouring out their devotion day and night, and these vibrations will protect our state from the ravages of natural calamities that breaks the backbone of the people. This again is a sign of the perennial flow of Grace of Swami to his devotees in Odisha. That apart, this was a lesson to the Organization that if you set a goal before the devotees, give a time frame to reach it, motivate them in such a way that soon that activity becomes a movement, then with Bhagawan s grace, it will yield excellent results. SATHYA SAI-SIRDI SAI BIGRAHA PRATISTHA MAHOTSAVA AT SAI JANANI, BHUBANESWAR With Bhagawan s Blessings the idols made of white marble of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and Shirdi Sai Baba have been installed in a specially designed Altar in the prayer hall of Sai Janani, Bhubaneswar on 19 th and 20 th October 2016 amidst religious fervor. On this holy occasion, a large number of the devotees were present in the premises of the Sai Janani to witness their beloved lord in the form of life size idol from the holy Altar.
