2 Preach the gospel always, if necessary use words. ~ St. Francis of Assisi. Welcome back to the school year. I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer and feel refreshed and ready for a new school year. We are pleased to provide you with our Character Education Calendar which outlines our virtues of deep caring and activities to support our faith journey in partnership between home, parish, and our school communities. Our goal in the area of Catholicity continues to undertake initiatives that sustain and grow the life and strength of Catholic education. The faith formation that takes place in the Catholic school is designed to support and complement that which takes place in the context of the child s family. We believe that through our partnership with our parents, parish priests, and staff within the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, we will provide our students with a Catholic faith filled learning opportunity. Our Character Education Calendar provides opportunities to support students as they develop their skills in the area of the Catholic Graduate Expectations. As outlined in the CGE s, the Ontario Catholic school graduate is a discerning believer; an effective communicator; a reflective, creative, holistic thinker; a life long learner; a collaborative contributor; a caring family member, and a responsible citizen. The prayers, activities and reflections shared throughout our Character Education Calendar support our belief that: In being Christ-centered in all that we do, ensuring that Catholic values and teachings are woven through every dimension of the students learning experience, giving particular focus to social justice and living a faith-filled life, our students will reflect a truly Catholic Culture of Caring. Teach your child the 3 R s of 1recovery after they make a mistake. Recognize their mistake, Reconcile and say they are sorry, and Resolve by focusing on solutions instead of laying blame. Your children become what they observe. Each action and word spoken sends a message 2to your children. Are you sending the message you want your child to receive? 3
