ORDINATION QUESTIONS QUESTIONS TO THE CONGREGATION Elder: Elder: There are different ways of serving God. But it is the same Lord who is served. God works in different people in different ways. But it is the same God who achieves the divine purpose through all. Each one is given a gift by the Spirit, To use it for the common good. Together we are the body of Christ, And individually members of him. Do we, the members of this church, accept this partner in our common ministry as a ruling elder chosen by God through this congregation to lead us and serve among us in the way of Jesus Christ? We do. Do we agree to encourage him, to respect his decisions, to follow as he guides us, and to honor and support his service, as together we all serve Jesus Christ, who alone is Head of the church? 3 SCRIPTURE READING Joshua 1:1-9 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses assistant, saying, 2 My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory. 5 No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. Children s Classes: Elementary (grades K-5) is diving into Deep Blue, a weekly Adventure Through the Bible in an engaging Large Group/Small Group breakout format. Preschool (3 & 4 years old) is also diving into Deep Blue, a weekly Adventure Through the Bible. Nursery Care (birth through age 2) is available in Lower Calvin during this time. RECEPTION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS This is Parents Weekend at the University of Arkansas and FUPC in cooperation with United Campus Ministry is hosting a reception to honor our students and their parents. Please join us for light refreshments immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service in the Courtyard. THANK YOU TO THE CONGREGATION OF FUPC!! Last Sunday s Special Missions and Outreach Offering raised over $6,600 for ministries that are supported by FUPC. This is a wonderful way for us, as individuals, to joyfully give out of our abundance to the ministries that our congregation feels God is calling us to support. God is so good! ABRAHAMIC FAITHS DISCUSSION FUPC will continue its participation in Abrahamic Faiths Discussion on Thursday, October 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Shalom, 699 N. Sang in Fayetteville. The panel includes Rev. Phil Butin, Rabbi Jacob Adler, and Mehmet Ulipinar. The discussion will cover War in the Abrahamic Traditions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. FUPC Elder Phil Harrington will serve as Moderator. A time of fellowship and conversation will follow the panel discussion. All FUPC members and friends are encouraged to attend. WEDNESDAYS TOGETHER SEPTEMBER 23 This is an opportunity for the whole church to eat together! We hope you ll come! Please make reservations for catered dinner by noon on Monday September 21 if you plan to attend (or bring your own, but please let us know you re coming because we are not able to carry over reservations from previous seasons). The schedule for the evening is: 5:00-5:45 p.m. Creation Station, 5:45-6:15 Dinner and, 6:15-7:00 Program in the Library on Legacy Giving and will include dinner, a Creation Station Activity and program. It sounds like an evening just for adults but it s not! Wait until you see what we can do with a bunch of quarters! You won t want to miss it! You are welcome to participate in any or all of the activities offered. CRAFT SUPPLIES DONATIONS NEEDED FOR WEDNESDAYS TOGETHER For our first Creation Station Activity we ll be making Razorback (and other) banks! We need immediate donations (by Monday afternoon) of empty, clear water bottles, ¾ wood beads, cloth ribbon, fun craft papers, and wiggly eyes. Feel welcome to call about other possible craft donations from your homes this season. We may be able to use them in our Art Resource Room. Thank you! THE ANNUAL ALL-CHURCH PICNIC will be Sunday, September 27, 3:30 p.m. at the home of Bobby and Lana Odom, 6029 East Mission Boulevard, Fayetteville. Please bring a lawn chair and a covered dish to share. Burgers, hotdogs, and fixings are provided by the church. If your last name starts with A-N, we suggest bringing fruit or dessert; if your last name starts with O-Z, we suggest you bring a vegetable or salad. Transportation is available by reservation.
