1 August 2015 Welcome Visitors The Road UMC is the place to be! The mission of The Road UMC is to become a community of believers committed to helping all people to personally know Jesus Christ by delivering a biblically based teaching and preaching of the gospel to those saved and seeking Christ and thereby developing disciples, families and communities through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are new to our community and looking for a church home or desire to explore your spirituality, please consider us. At The ROAD, we are engaged in the L4 experience: Loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and loving neighbor as thyself. Living a life that is Christ-centered and biblically oriented. Learning to be a disciple of Jesus Christ as we live counter to the culture following wholeheartedly after God in a broken world. Leading others to experience God; being light in darkness and salt in a decaying environment. If you would like to enter into fellowship with The ROAD UMC Come during the Invitation to Discipleship See our pastor or a member after church Call the church office and schedule an appointment to speak with the pastor us at stmarysrd@theroadumc.org See one of our greeters or ministers after the worship service This is the working church! Dr. L.K. Pendleton, Pastor The first day of school invites many different emotions. We can get downright caught up in a furious whirlwind of excitement, anxiety and sometimes indifference. School is a mini training ground for what we deem "the real world." Albeit, a lot less intense, school teaches us social dynamics as well as time management and hands on skills necessary for survival and of course academic prowess. My teachers were my favorite part of the grade school experience. The way they taught conveyed a sense of passion for their perspective subjects. I was encouraged to read and critically think about the world around me. Through this process, I learned about my capabilities and what my applied focus could produce. I didn't always study the way I should have, but I knew from the results, I was capable of achieving more if I applied myself. It was instilled in me that I had all of the potential in the world if I would commit my aptitude to a goal! Like many things in life, this is easier said than done. That's the excuse I used, anyway. God has given and made known to us an understanding of His word through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He requires us to study His Word so that we can show ourselves approved. You may be saying, "what on earth does THAT mean?" God wants us to be diligent in seeking to hear His voice through studying the Word like an athlete trains for the Olympics or a musician practices for a performance. By consistently meditating on the Word of God, we transform our lives into lives of service and devotion to the Almighty. We can stand faultless before the throne of God. I admonish you, as you prepare for another school year, don t be new to it, be true to it! Study to show yourself approved by God! Amber Pendleton

5 DNA Testing For Medication Analysis Welcome to the dawn of medicine in the 21st century. With the rising cost of medications, these test could not have come at a better time. DME (Drug Metabolising Enzyme panels) or P450 test is a DNA analysis taken as a simple cheek swab test that gives your doctor information as to how well certain medications can or cannot work for you the individual. They provide the following information on how YOUR body breaks down medications: are you a poor metabolizer, intermediate metabolizer or ultrafast metabolizer. These panels can help provide some of the answers. They are now available for many common disorders such as heart conditions, anti-infectives, hypertension, antipsychotic medications, etc. These tests identify how your body breaks down certain medications helping us adjust not just medication dosing but also the type or class of medication to prescribe. This will help limit medication side effects. The DME/P450 test is a test that only needs to be taken once in an individual's lifetime. Just like your blood type, your enzyme panel does not change. The cost of the test can range from $ $ Insurance may cover part of the cost for these tests but as with all things medical, some companies consider these test experimental and are only allowing a very narrow section of people to benefit. These test are part of the new age of DNA medicine that we are stepping into in the 21st century. We should all be able to benefit to help limit the number of adverse medication reactions and allow for our doctors to get us on the right medication hopefully on the 1st try as opposed to the 5th or 6th try. This is an exciting time for all of us in medicine, both patient and physician. This new test may actually help us by upholding the 1st of the Hippocratic oath, At First Do No Harm. Yours Truly, Dr. Georgina Asante, DPM Page 5 Theme: Praise the Lord with Me! Friday, August 7, :00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, :00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Our Facilitator: Faye Lewis Boyer from Warner Robbins, GA with Accompanists: Dexter Davis and Gary Johnson. Everyone is invited to join in the worship through music experience. Protect these dates on your calendars. Please contact Jackie Egins, Director of Music at (706) for The additional Meaning of the Liturgical information. Colors
