1 CFA FOUNDATION BREAKOUT SESSION OVERVIEW ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT MOUNTAIN Question One: Take a moment to dream. Dream of what this mountain would look like in our community if it honored and reflected God completely. Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Acting; Advertising; Architecture; Culinary Arts; Dancing; Games; Gardening; Knitting; Music; Painting; Photography; Sculpture; Sports; TV & Movie Production; Woodworking; Writing Literature, Short-Stories, Poetry, Plays, Movie Scripts, etc. 1. A community where art in all of its forms is valued, explored, and developed a Renaissance community on the cutting edge of producing new, excellent and God-honoring art. 2. A community where no movie theater shows films rated above R; where pornography is not readily available; and where sexual-based businesses do not exist. 3. A community where people spend less than two hours a day watching television and instead spend the majority of their entertainment time learning or teaching skills, playing games, producing things of value, or exercising. 4. A community where the architecture (house designs, landscapes, parks, city plan, roads, business district, etc.) encourages people to interact with one another. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would children, families, singles, elderly, and friends spend their time doing?

2 3. What would the average citizen know about literature, art, dance, music, sports, etc.? 4. What values or principles would art convey? How would art that failed to convey these principles be received? 5. What resources would be available in the community, i.e. museums, classes, evening activities, plays, etc.? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Have 10% of all local churches donate to ministries or sponsor initiatives that produce God-honoring art. 2. Host quarterly conferences where aspiring artists or athletes can learn from experienced and Biblically grounded experts in their fields. 3. Ensure that for every film released that does not honor God there is one that does. 4. Eliminate the sale of pornography within the community.

Areas to Consider: Internet (Blogs, RSS Feeds, Online Newspapers, Podcasts, Web Portals); Print (Books, Journals, Magazines, Newsletters, Newspapers, Pamphlets); Radio; Television & Film (Documentaries; News Broadcasts; All-day Coverage) 1. A community where journalists have a Biblical worldview, stellar integrity, and a keen hunger to find and report the truth no matter where it leads. 2. A community where media strives to educate the public instead of entertain or polarize them. 3. A community where media sets the example for civil discourse a discourse that does not permit fallacious attacks, poor logic, or the silencing of another perspective. 4. A community where government does not threaten or intimidate the media. 5. A community where the public respects the media. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What standards or criteria would be used to judge the media s work? How would the media be held accountable to these standards? 3. What interaction would children, families, singles, elderly, and the general community have with the media?

4 4. What would journalist students learn in their college courses? 5. How would specialized information be made more readily available to the public? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. On every key issue impacting the community, write a letter to the editor or take out an advertisement to present the Biblical position. 2. Ensure that at least 10% of all media staff is Christian and has a solid Biblical worldview. 3. Hold bi-annual training seminars for those interested in pursuing or strengthening a God-honoring career in journalism. 4. Have 10% of all local churches fund programs designed to create a Godhonoring media. 5. Repeal and/or resist all legislation supporting the tenants of the Fairness Doctrine.

Dream of what this mountain would look like in our community if it honored and reflected God completely. Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Discipleship; Prophetic Voice; Service (esp. to widows, orphans, infirm, imprisoned, and voiceless) 1. A community where the church presents a unified front to the non-believing world where it is known more as The Church at Colorado Springs or Littleton than First this or Christian Church that. 2. A community where every follower of Christ operates from a strong Biblical worldview and strives to learn more about God and His creation. 3. A community where the Church loves and provides for the least of these through a model that seeks to stabilize and raise up the struggling instead of keeping them in a cycle of poverty, ignorance, etc. 4. A community where the Church winsomely yet firmly stands for the Truth. 5. A community where the Church is respected and valued where the community embraces it as a viable segment of society instead of being fearful, skeptical, or cynical toward it. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would each follower of Christ look like (i.e. character, service, Biblical understanding, etc.)? What would The Church at Colorado Springs or Littleton look like? 3. What would non-believers, even those vehemently opposed to the message of Christ, say about the Church? (Read Titus for ideas.)

6 4. What responsibilities would the Church reclaim from the mountain of Law and Government? Education? Healthcare? Welfare? 5. In what ways would churches and para-church organizations cooperate? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Incorporate worldview training in every church program, sermon, class, etc. 2. Institute mentoring programs whereby every Church member has a father/mother (someone older in the faith to mentor them), a sister/brother (someone walking the road at the same general stage), and a daughter/son (someone they can mentor faith). 3. Hold at least two city-wide Church events a year where all the churches come together to pray, worship, fellowship and serve. 4. Create a network (website, listserv, etc.) for all pastors and para-church ministry leaders to easily communicate 5. Eliminate the desire for the Affordable Care Act, government run welfare programs, and ENDA-like legislation. Enact state Religious Freedom Acts like the federal Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) and Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).

Areas to Consider: Marriage; Parenting; Procreation; Adoption; Caring for Family Members (Elderly, Infirm, Destitute, Orphaned) 1. A community where natural marriage is honored and revered as a blessing and gift. 2. A community where every pregnancy ends naturally either through birth or miscarriage. 3. A community where every child is raised by his or her married mother and father. 4. A community where parents take an active and God-honoring role in educating and raising their children. 5. A community where intergenerational living is widely accepted, especially where it serves to care for the infirm and elderly. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would a husband, a wife, a father, a mother, a child, a grandparent, an uncle, and a single look like in our community? How would they understand their role as a family member? 3. What would happen to orphans and widows in our community?

8 4. What would be different about the rest of our society to ensure that family is prioritized over most of the other mountains? 5. What responsibilities would the Family reclaim from the mountain of Law and Government? Education? Healthcare? Welfare? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Change the expectation that women must start their careers in their 20s. Allow them to focus on raising a family first and then entering the working world, if they so desire. 2. Offer services to university student moms/wives to enable them to continue studying even while starting a family. 3. Provide a mentoring couple for each newly engaged and married couple to help them through the hard times, to answer questions, to assist them with parenting, etc. 4. Restore in the mountains of art, entertainment and media the idea that marriage is beneficial and amazing. 5. Repeal any laws, regulations, or judicial opinions that provide for abortion, adultery, divorce, same-sex marriage, prostitution, etc.

9 INFLUENCE COLORADO BREAKOUT SESSION OVERVIEW BUSINESS MOUNTAIN Question One: Take a moment to dream. Dream of what this mountain would look like in our community if it honored and reflected God completely. Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Agriculture; Banking; Entrepreneurship; Industry; Investment & Securities; Management; Service Industry 1. A community where every product produced or service offered honors God by being safe, morally upstanding, and of the highest quality. 2. A community where business sets the standard for good stewardship of human, financial, real, and environmental capital. 3. A community where business trains its employees to understand the business and how the business impacts the local community; encourages its employees to be innovative; and treats its employees well. 4. A community where business takes ownership over keeping the unemployment rate low by constantly looking for gleaning opportunities. 5. A community where the economy is not dependent upon covetousness and discontentment in the populace and where work is honored and enjoyed. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would your business model look like if it sought to balance good stewardship, healthy relationships, and contentment with profit and productivity? 3. What would an employee, a citizen, a child, a retiree think of the local business community?

10 4. In what ways could your business provide jobs, training or support to the unemployed, the ex-convict, the mentally disabled, the homeless, etc.? 5. What types of business would be required to create a sustainable local economy? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Require all recipients of welfare and unemployment benefits to fulfill a certain number of training and work hours a week. Offer training on basic job skills. Offer work opportunities that benefit the community (cleanup, tutoring, spending time with the elderly, etc.) 2. Institute a city-wide Code of Ethics for all business operating within the community. Encourage the businesses to report on how they have satisfied the Code every quarter. 3. Train business leaders about better stewardship. Show them how to utilize all of the various aspects of their production for the benefit of society (i.e. instead of throwing furniture away when remodeling an office, give it to a local ministry or school). 4. Start businesses in poorer areas of town with the intention of hiring those who normally have a hard time getting a job (ex-convicts, prostitutes, etc.). Train them. 5. Repeal legislation that places an undue tax burden on business owners. Consider implementing a Fair Tax scheme to minimize barriers to growth.

Dream of what this mountain would look like in our community if it honored and reflected God completely. Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Administration; Curriculum; Each Stage of Education (Early Childhood Education; Elementary Education; Secondary Education; College & University Education; Post-Graduate Education); Parents; Students; Teachers & Professors 1. A community where each citizen has a classical education that is infused with Biblical truth. 2. A community where each citizen thinks critically about current events and can intelligently respond to the major issues facing their community. 3. A community where each child is cherished as a unique creation of God and is encouraged to pursue his or her special calling. 4. A community where teachers and parents work in tandem to ensure that each child is growing, learning, and developing well. 5. A community where universities are bastions for teaching and investigating Truth. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would be included in a God-honoring curriculum? 3. How would non-believers and other worldviews be treated in the educational system?

12 4. What role would parents have in overseeing the education of their children? 5. How would homeschooling, Christian education, and secular education interact? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Ensure that 30% of all teachers are believers and that an additional 20% have a strong Biblical worldview on key issues of the Natural Law. 2. Ensure that at least 50% of all PTA members/leaders, School Board officials, and classroom volunteers are believers. 3. Eliminate federal oversight of local education by denying grant money and refusing to join national unions. 4. Institute tutoring programs whereby senior citizens tutor struggling students. 5. Eliminate Common Core as well as its predecessors and progeny. 6. Close down the U.S. Department of Education. Leave education to the parents as well as state and local governments.

Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Administration; Bureaucracy; Federal Government; Judicial System; State Government; Local Government 1. A community where the government is only responsible for protecting what is good and punishing what is evil. 2. A community where federal leaders hold office for a limited season where they view themselves as public servants who have lives and businesses to which to return. 3. A community where elected officials at all levels understand they are accountable to God and strive to enact or enforce legislation consistent with His Word. 4. A community where judges do not legislate from the bench but where they honor the will of the people as stated in the various acts passed by Congress. 5. A community where the citizens do not look to the State as their savior but understand that government is to have a limited role. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What understanding of law and government would the average person (citizen) have? 3. What would the government maintain responsibility over? What government agencies would still exist and which ones would be eliminated?

14 4. What would an elected official look like (i.e. character, beliefs and attitudes)? 5. How would the international (U.N.), federal (U.S.), state (CO), and local governments interact? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Law students would no longer learn by the evolutionary case method but instead would return to learning via the standards-based method of Blackstone. 2. Every government official would participate in Natural Law training before taking office. 3. Repeal the Johnson Amendment. (1954 which prohibited tax-exempt organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates.) 4. Work with the other mountains to saturate the market with the idea that government s role should be limited.
