1 SERIES: Matthew MESSAGE: Matthew 24:1-30 SPEAKER: Skip Heitzig SCRIPTURE: Matthew 24:1-30 MESSAGE SUMMARY In this passage the Olivet Discourse Jesus provides a summary of end time events: the future of the world. We look forward to the Rapture and the Second Coming of Jesus, but those found outside of Christ face unparalleled suffering and judgment. Let's contemplate the wrath of God that's in store for this world and share the hope of the gospel with those who don't yet know Him. DETAILED NOTES I. Introduction A. Land of Israel is at the center of the world; Jerusalem is at the center of Israel, and the Temple is at the center of Jerusalem. B. Setting 1. Jesus with disciples on the Mount of Olives 2. Overlooking Jerusalem a. No Dome of the Rock b. Jewish Temple stood c. From east side across the Kidron valley 3. Jerusalem packed with millions there for Passover 4. God purchased our salvation outside the Damascus Gate at Golgotha, Calvary b. "You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews." (John 4:22) 3. Storm center prophetically a. "And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples;" (Zechariah 12:3) b. World's desire to get rid of Israel: roadblock to peace c. For thus says the Lord of hosts: "He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye." (Zecharaiah2:8) Page 1
