1 ASENSION LUTHERAN HURH LUTHERAN HURH MISSOURI SYNOD THE HOLY TRINITY Only, Only, Only One of the most beloved hymns of the hurch is Holy, Holy, Holy. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity! (LSB 507:1) The threefold holy we sing in this work echoes the praise of the seraphim in today s Old Testament Reading. We could also say that there is a threefold only in today s Gospel. As we listen in on Jesus nighttime conversation with Nicodemus, we learn that we can believe heavenly things only by birth from above, only by a washing of water and Spirit, and only because Jesus speaks for the Father. On this Holy Trinity Sunday, we give thanks for these gracious gifts from the only true God the Trinity Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! May 22, :00 am

God in three ersons, blessed Trinity! Amen. ONFESSION and ABSOLUTION If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Merciful God, we confess to You all our sin that divides us from You and from one another. We do not do the good we want, but the evil we do not want is what we keep on doing. Good Lord, deliver us from evil, grant us Your forgiveness, and give us a new heart and spirit that we may serve You without fear. SERVIE OF THE WORD OLD TESTAMENT READING: roverbs 8:1-4, L Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. The Jews answered him, "Aren't we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?" "I am not possessed by a demon," said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death." At this the Jews exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?" Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word. Blessed be His kingdom now and forever, to the end of all the ages! That we may with one voice confess that God is one and manifest this same unity both with God and with all who wear His name by Baptism, let us pray to the Lord. That we may faithfully proclaim the love of the Father for us sinners, the saving will and purpose of hrist who suffered and died for us on the cross, and the power of the Spirit to teach us to believe in God, let us pray to the Lord.

6 That everywhere people may bow the knee and confess this faith and that the nations of the world may provide freedom, justice, and peace so that God s people may fulfill their baptismal calling of worship, witness, love, and service, let us pray to the Lord. That the hurch may not depart from this saving truth but honor God s Word with faith, that through the hurch, faithful men may be raised up to serve as pastors, and that the institutions and agencies of this hurch may faithfully do the Lord s bidding as He desires, let us pray to the Lord. That the sick, the suffering, and the dying may know God s comfort and care, healing, and grace in all circumstances, [especially... ], and for those whom we name before the Lord in our hearts now [pause], let us pray to the Lord. That we may rejoice in the delight of the Lord to save us and respond with delight to serve Him with our talents, honor Him with our tithes and offerings, and worship Him in Spirit and truth, let us pray to the Lord. That we may come to the Lord s Table with faithful and repentant hearts to receive there the precious flesh and blood of hrist, to strengthen us in this faith, and to equip us for His service, let us pray to the Lord. That we may rejoice in all things and give thanks to the Lord that it has been His delight to reveal Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and to manifest His power and glory in saving us sinners and giving to us everlasting life, let us pray to the Lord. Blessed are You, O Lord, and blessed is Your eternal and everlasting kingdom. In the name of Jesus and for the sake of His all-sufficient merits, we plead before You to grant us all things needful and to deliver us from all things harmful. 8 HOLY OMMUNION AT ASENSION The Lord, our Host, invites to his Supper those who are baptized into the hristian faith, confess him as Savior, have examined themselves, truly repent of sins, believe the Risen Lord is present in the sacrament with his true body and blood, and resolve to live faithfully and obediently. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING reface It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, who with Your only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit are one God, one Lord. In the confession of the only true God, we worship the Trinity in person and the Unity in substance, of majesty coequal. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing:

9 Sanctus The Words of onsecration In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until he comes.
