Jesus was a free gift for our salvation, forgiveness, and new life. Martin Luther encourages us to view all of life as a gift from God and to use our lives as a grateful response to God s gift. How are you responding to God s grace with gratitude? For the next three weeks, we ll discuss how we live in gratitude and commit our time, talents, and money in response to God s great love for us (Silence please for prayer and meditation) RELUDE Musical Devotions Shirley Murray (lease stand as you are able) ONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus hrist our Lord. By water and the Word God delivers us from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus hrist. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus hrist, the true aschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin; who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and eter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: ONGREGATONAL SONG Holy, Holy, Holy 11

12 EUHARISTI RAYER Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Make us bold, O merciful God, to address you as our Abba as we pray: (Abba is an intimate word used by Jesus to address his Father as we might say, Daddy) LORD'S RAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Home Start provides shelter and programs for homeless families; Lazarus roject does the same for homeless singles; St. Vincent de aul provides meals, clothing and other support; What Would Jesus Do finds the homeless and provides meals, clothing, and medical aid as needed. The lacer are oalition was formed as a fundraising organization which pooled resources in order to more efficiently raise funds so that the four participating agencies could continue their much needed services. 20 OMMEMORATIONS FOR THE WEEK: Olavus etri, priest, died 1552; Laurentius etri, Bishop of Uppsala, died 1573; renewers of the church Thursday, April 19, 2018 These two brothers studied with Luther at the University of Wittenberg and then returned to their native Sweden to introduce the Lutheran reforms. Olavus published a catechism and hymnal; Laurentius was a professor who defended the office of bishop and later became one. Anselm, Bishop of anterbury, died 1109 Saturday, April 21, 2018 This eleventh-century monk was one of the greatest theologians of the Middle Ages. He is remembered for emphasizing the maternal aspects of God, and for the theory that the Son of God became human in order to make the necessary payment for our sin. Day of the reation (Día de la reación) (LL) Sunday, April 22, 2018 This observance invites us to notice and give God thanks for the wonders of the created universe. As stewards of that creation, we are also challenged to be careful in our use of it. Toyohiko Kagawa, renewer of society, died 1960 Monday, April 23, 2018 Born in Kobe, Japan, Kagawa was orphaned as a young child. Later, when he became hristian, he was disowned by the rest of his family. Wishing to bring hristian principles into society, he worked among poor people, established schools and hospitals, and worked for peace. Mark, Evangelist Wednesday, April 25, 2018 He was not numbered among the twelve apostles, yet Mark was probably a member of the early church community. The gospel that bears his name is the shortest and most direct, and many scholars think it was the first to be written. 20
