1 Communicator July 2014 Welcome Home...for a While by Kelly R Randolph If you ve heard this story, indulge me. If not, you will enjoy hearing it. In 1995, Robb Hazen became part of our church family. He was my mailman in Goddard, KS. In 1999, CABC took our first trip to Acapulco, Mexico to work with a group of churches in that area. Robb went on that trip and the next trip a year later. Through this experience, God called him to invest his life in Mexico. In 2003, Robb quit his postal service job and moved to the seminary in San Jeronimito, ' ƵĞƌƌĞƌŽƚŽďĞŐŝŶŚŝƐĞĚƵĐĂƟŽŶ While there, he met Vicky. They ǁ ĞƌĞŵĂƌƌŝĞĚ ŌĞƌŐƌĂĚƵĂƟŽŶ from seminary, Robb and Vicky ŵžǀ ĞĚƚŽdƵŵďŝƐĐĂƟŽ Michoacan where they have ďğğŷɖůăŷɵŷőăđśƶƌđś dśğlj now have a son, Isaias and a ĚĂƵŐŚƚĞƌ ĞůĞŶ ƵƌŝŶŐƚŚŝƐƟŵĞ of mission work in Mexico, it has been our privilege at CABC to be their primary support system. This July, Robb and Vicky and family will be back in Wichita for an extended stay of up to two years. While here, Vicky will be ǁ ŽƌŬŝŶŐŽŶŐĞƫ ŶŐh ^ ĐŝƟnjĞŶƐŚŝƉ dśŝɛǁ ŝůůăůůžǁ ƚśğŵ to travel between the USA and Mexico much easier. During this stay in the US, the Hazen s will ďğđžŷɵŷƶŝŷőƚśğŝƌǁ ŽƌŬǁ ŝƚś, ŝɛɖăŷŝđđśƶƌđśɖůăŷɵŷőğī ŽƌƚƐ in our local area. Through our ůžđăůăɖɵɛƚăɛɛžđŝăɵžŷ ƚśğlj will partner with others to reach the lost and plant churches. We ĂƌĞĞdžĐŝƚĞĚƚŽĐŽŶƟŶƵĞŽƵƌ support of their work during this stay in the US. Their plan is to return to Mexico and plant a church in another area. What a blessing it is to see what God has done with this couple! What a privilege to partner with ƚśğŵŝŷđśƶƌđśɖůăŷɵŷőăŷě evangelism! As they return for this stay, we will have the opportunity to fellowship with them, work with them in ministry, and minister to them as a missionary family. Let s do our best to show them the love and hospitality which expresses the honor such servants of Christ deserve. Welcome home for a while Robb, Vicky, and family! 2 Eric s Notes Dear Church Family, by Eric Stone This June will mark twenty years that I have had the blessing of having Kelly Randolph as my Senior Pastor. I ƌğăůŝnjğě ĂƚƚŚĞǀ ĞƌLJĮ ƌɛƚŵğğɵŷőǁ ŝƚś Kelly, that Country Acres was the church where God wanted me. I strongly felt at ƚśăƚɵŵğ' ŽĚŚĂĚĂŐƌĞĂƚƉůĂŶĨŽƌƚŚŝƐ ĐŚƵƌĐŚĂŶĚ/ƐƟůůĨĞĞůƚŚĂƚǁ ĂLJƚŽĚĂLJ dśğ twenty years that Kelly has served as our Senior Pastor, God has done many wonderful things. To look back and see how God has moved is a blessing in itself. I want to take this opportunity to ƐĂLJĐŽŶŐƌĂƚƵůĂƟŽŶƐƚŽŽƵƌƉĂƐƚŽƌĂŶĚŚŝƐ family and say how blessed I am to have served with the same pastor for the past twenty years. Very few worship leaders can say that they have served with same pastor for the tenure that I have, and for that I am grateful. The worship ministry has enjoyed the blessing of God s hand and also has had the support and encouragement from our Senior Pastor as well. We have grown because of <ĞůůLJ ƐůŽǀ ĞĨŽƌƚŚĞďŝďůŝĐĂůĨŽƵŶĚĂƟŽŶƐ of worship that God s word so clearly teaches. He has taught us what it means to be a worshipping church. Pastor, thank you for being faithful to the Word ŽĨ' ŽĚĂŶĚŽŶĐĞĂŐĂŝŶĐŽŶŐƌĂƚƵůĂƟŽŶƐ on the wonderful milestone. EDGE Student Ministry Local Missions Week AWAKEN July 7-10 Awaken is our annual week of local missions. During this week we will be partnering with two local church plants: D ŝěǁ ĂLJĂƉƟƐƚ- Wichita ĞŶƚĞƌWŽŝŶƚĂƉƟƐƚ- Andover Noelle Jeannine Borofsky was born on April 23. She weighed 7 pounds and 5 ounces and was 19 inches long. Noelle was welcomed by her parents, Jon and Kristen, big brother, Samuel, and grandparents, Mark and Linda Borofsky. Judah Calvin Buller was born on May 19. He weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. His parents are Brian and Erin. D ĂLJ' ŽĚĐŽŶƟŶƵĞƚŽďůĞƐƐLJŽƵĂƐLJŽƵ lead us. Soli Deo Gloria Eric Henry Trulove was born on June 3. He weighed 8 pounds and 2 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. He was welcomed home by his parents, Calon and Andrea, his big brother, Brycen, and grandparents, Lon and Cathy Trulove. Page 2 Communicator

3 Women s Ministry Join us Friday, August 1 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., for our next Girls Get Together (GGT). We are having a GAME NIGHT! If playing games isn t your cup of tea, maybe watching people play games is. Come and fellowship with us, we would love to visit with you! Invite your friends, bring your favorite snack or dessert, and a game to play. We will meet in the gym, ŚĂǀ ĞĂƐŚŽƌƚƟŵĞŽĨĚĞǀ ŽƟŽŶĂŶĚ then the craziness will begin. Please sign up at the Women s Ministry table so we know how many to prepare for. Sarah Prayer Circle We will begin on July 1 and 15 at 10:00 a.m. the Prayer Room. We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Men s Ministry Man to Man by David Browning On July 4, 1776 a group of men signed a document that proclaimed their freedom from England. They asserted their right, by God, to be free and to ůŝǀ ĞƚŚĞŝƌůŝǀ ĞƐƵŶĨĞƩ ĞƌĞĚďLJƚŚĞ arbitrary rule of a foreign government. We celebrate the Fourth of July as a remembrance ŽĨƚŚŝƐƉƌŽĐůĂŵĂƟŽŶ ƚśğ ĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨ/ŶĚĞƉĞŶĚĞŶĐĞ Two thousand years ago another ĚĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨŝŶĚĞƉĞŶĚĞŶĐĞǁ ĂƐ made. Jesus Christ made this ĚĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨĨƌĞĞĚŽŵĨƌŽŵƚŚĞ power of Satan over the world. He broke the power of sin and set the believer free. We affirm ŽƵƌŽǁ ŶƉĞƌƐŽŶĂůĚĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨ independence from sin when we accept Christ as our Savior and Lord. This Fourth of July pause to consider that through Jesus Christ we are free from the power of Satan; we have freedom from the chains of sin that bind us and weigh us down. Sing praises to God on this Independence day. Nursery News by Juliana Williams The Pirate treasure hunt is in full swing this summer as the Nursery and Preschool Sunday School classrooms discover treasures more precious than gold or silver in God s t ŽƌĚ dśŝɛŵžŷƚśƚśğůŝʃ ůğžŷğɛăƌğ learning that God is listening to them when they pray, the Bible teaches us to be generous with the things we are given, and that Jesus wants to be their friend and have a foreverƌğůăɵžŷɛśŝɖǁ ŝƚśƚśğŵ I am so blessed to be able to report that we will be having some new volunteers join us on our summer adventure! 4 Twilight s Last Gleaming by Kim Evans Children s Ministry For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ' ĂůĂƟĂŶƐϱ ϭϯ-14 Do you have special plans this week? It's already the middle of the summer and we celebrate "The 4th of July" or Independence Day"? Is there a possibility that you will see fireworks this week? We can learn from the Bible and from two of the Founding Fathers of the United States who signed the ĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨ/ŶĚĞƉĞŶĚĞŶĐĞ :ŽŚŶ Adams who convinced Congress to ƐŝŐŶƚŚĞ ĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶĂŶĚdŚŽŵĂƐ Jefferson who wrote it about freedom. Paul, even way back in New dğɛƚăŵğŷƚɵŵğɛ ƚžůěɖğžɖůğƚśğlj were called to a free life and to do what Jesus always told us "To love others as you love yourself." How do the Founding Fathers help teach the lesson from Paul? John Adams, the second President of the United States, and Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, were always on ŽƉƉŽƐŝƚĞƐŝĚĞƐŽĨĞǀ ĞƌLJƚŚŝŶŐ ŌĞƌ they had disagreed on almost Ğǀ ĞƌLJƚŚŝŶŐĨŽƌĂůŝĨĞƟŵĞ ŝŷƚśğŝƌ twilight years, the two former WƌĞƐŝĚĞŶƚƐǁ ƌžƚğůğʃ ĞƌƐƚŽĞĂĐŚ other constantly. John Adams lived ŝŷd ĂƐƐĂĐŚƵƐĞƩ ƐĂŶĚdŚŽŵĂƐ Jefferson in Virginia. One night :ŽŚŶĚĂŵƐďƌŽƵŐŚƚĂůĞƩ ĞƌĨƌŽŵ Thomas Jefferson to read to his children and they asked him why he was so friendly now with Mr. Jefferson. He said, "I believe Mr. Jefferson always liked me, he wished to be President of the United States and I stood in his way. So he did everything he could do to pull me down. This is human nature I forgive all my enemies and hope they find mercy in Heaven. Mr. Jefferson and I have ŐƌŽǁ ŶŽůĚĂŶĚƌĞƟƌĞĚĨƌŽŵƉƵďůŝĐ life. So we are upon our ancient terms of goodwill." Maybe you remember that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both loved to read and John grew up reading the Bible every Thursday through Sunday morning. He probably read the same verses from Paul that we read today. I'm sure he read many ƟŵĞƐ Η>Žǀ ĞŽƚŚĞƌƐĂƐLJŽƵůŽǀ Ğ yourself." t ĞĂƌĞĐĞůĞďƌĂƟŶŐƚŚĞϮϯϴ th anniversary of the signing of the ĞĐůĂƌĂƟŽŶŽĨ/ŶĚĞƉĞŶĚĞŶĐĞƚŚŝƐ next week; 188 years ago on the 50th anniversary both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were in big demand as two of the three last original signers. They were invited to come to Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Boston to be the guests of honor in the parades and watch the fireworks. They were both old and not feeling very well. They politely thanked all who invited them and decided to stay home. On that July 4th in 1826, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died. That John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both had died on the same day, the Fourth of July, "was a sign of 'Divine favor," the President, at the ƟŵĞ ƉƵƚŝŶŚŝƐĚŝĂƌLJ dśğ President was John Quincy Adams the son of John Adams. "I forgive all my enemies and hope they find mercy in heaven" said John Adams. "Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that's how freedom grows." from the Apostle Paul.
