We sway in the wind and are refreshed by the rain. We are blessed by the knowledge that you want us to grow towards what you have created us to be. {Brief moment of silence for reflection} When we deprive others of that same opportunity, Lord, forgive us. When we want to uproot those whom we believe do not belong in our part of the field, Lord, forgive us. When we label others as good or bad rather than accepting them for who they are, Lord, forgive us. When we are afraid to look into the fields of our own lives to see what is growing there, Lord, forgive us. O God, you know us inside and out, through and through. You search us out and wrap us in your loving arms. Give us strength to reach out to the uprooted and rejected, the lonely and the outcast, and to develop and grow the good in ourselves, in others and in all the world. We pray these things in Jesus name. Amen.

4 The Greeting and rayer of the Day The grace of our Lord Jesus hrist, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Let us pray. Loving God, Day after day we strive to live our lives as good soil, bearing fruit for the betterment of your kingdom. Too often the weeds, rocks and thorns of our world convince us to give up, and we lose sight of the promise you make us, that life and love win. Give us the strength and courage to go out into the world, truly as your heart, hands and feet so that the restless feel your peace, the broken can experience your healing, and the unlovable are consumed by your love. We pray these things in the name of our risen Lord, Jesus hrist. Amen. {lease be seated} In Grace, God Empowers Us With The Word Time with the hildren {hildren 4 years old thru 2 nd grade may leave for hildren s hurch} The Lesson Romans 8:1-11 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in hrist Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in hrist Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God s law indeed it cannot, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of hrist does not belong to him. 10 But if hrist is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised hrist from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

6 The Gospel Matthew 13:1-9, That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake. 2 Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach. 3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: Listen! A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 Let anyone with ears listen! 18 Hear then the parable of the sower. 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. 23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty. 9 The Great Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. The Table rayer with the Words of Jesus The Lord s rayer Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray: {lease be seated} ommunion Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen We invite and encourage everyone to participate in Holy ommunion regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, politics, or any other divisive marker assigned by the world. God envisions a cosmos where all humanity is united in love. We at Abiding Hope believe that Jesus instituted Holy ommunion to be a real and tangible means by which we are connected to God and one another. To make this point, the pastor will issue an invitation for all to participate saying, "The Gifts of God are..." to which the congregation will emphatically proclaim "FREE!" We hope that you and your family will join us for this meaningful feast of God's love and grace. White grape juice is available on each communion tray as well as red wine. 16 With Grace, God Sends Us The ommissioning To Go and Serve {The congregation turns and faces the entrance to the world.} Go forth as God s people. We will sow seeds of love and joy in the world. Go forth as hrist s true friends. We will sow seeds of justice and hope in oppression-strewn paths. Go forth as the Spirit s love. We will sow seeds of peace and reconciliation in every corner of creation. Love God. Serve God. Love all. Serve all. The Lord bless you and keep you.
