2 P a ge 2 O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Psalm 139:1-5 Sunday s lectionary Psalm is 139. It s one of my favorites, so I always love the opportunity to reflect on it for preaching. If you are not familiar with it, take some time to read it in its entirety. It is a beautiful reminder of the ways God relates to us. We hear first that God knows our thoughts and our needs before we can ask. In later verses, we hear that there is nowhere that we can go to escape God s love and presence. For God is always there. Always. No matter what. And if there was any question about what God thinks of us, the psalmist reminds us: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. In other words, when God was finished creating us, God looked back at us and stood in awe of us. Those are reminders that we need to hear often. It seems to me that sometimes in life God seems far away that we struggle to feel the divine presence. It is often the reminder that helps us to feel it once again. Friends, never doubt that God is in awe of who you are and God is always with you. That is Good News that we can rely on every single day. Let s not only believe that for ourselves but show that to others. As I look ahead to the summer months, I m delighted to see all that we have happening with the Covenant community. Here s are a few highlights: June: June will be our month to do some preparations for Vacation Bible School. We will have work days on Wednesdays in June from 1pm-3pm. We will also have our annual mission trip to Wichita for our junior high youth. July: We will celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday and will hold our Polar Blast Vacation Bible School. We will also send off a mission trip to new Mexico to work with McCurdy Ministries. August: Our stewardship committee is planning a fun event for the community. Stay tuned for more information! Throughout the summer Pastor Joseph and I will be teaching a Sunday school class following worship. We will be looking at Scripture and and how understanding these ancient texts can truly transform our lives. We will begin with a case study as Pastor Joseph presents 3 lessons on some familiar and often misunderstood passages. Join us as we grow in understanding of the Bible and relationship with one another. Blessings to you on your Summer. 3 P a ge 3 Even though the summer solstice is not until June 21 st, by all indications, summer is already here! It is HOT, HOT, HOT! As you charge into summer and decide where to invest your time in the wisest and most faithful fashion, please remember to set aside time for your church family for worship, for learning, for enjoying community. I will start off telling you about one of the most important opportunities of the summer! Pastor Laura and I will be offering a fantastic intergenerational time of learning on Sundays following worship this summer! Hang out with us as we discover, How an Ancient Library of Poems, Letters, and Stories can Transform the Way You Think and Feel About Everything! Seriously, can you think of a more rebellious and subversive way to spend your Sunday morning? Don t forget to remember that the Middle Schoolers will be mission tripping to Wichita June 18 th and 19 th! Get your registration in by June 1 st! VBS Polar Blast is July 13, 14, and 15! And the High Schoolers will be heading out to Española, New Mexico July 29-August 4 th! Get your registration in NOW for a great time of community building! See Pastor Joseph for more information on any of these great events. And finally, congratulations to our 8 th grade confirmation class as they continue their faith journeys as newly minted members! Be sure to congratulate Katie Scheer and Alex Rice when you see them. Their hard work and study deserves some recognition. Grace, peace, and blessings! Pastor Joseph and the YaYA crew Stewardship Report The arrival of summertime is welcome. Hopefully it means time with family, friends, possible travels. We ve learned that as the change of seasons happens, church giving tends to go down while expenses continue. We have been blessed by a congregation whose involvement make Covenant a happening place. Thank you for all you do! With everyone s help we will continue to make our monthly building loan payments, cover staff wages, provide for summer programs and activities (church camps, mission trips, Vacation Bible School) keep water and electricity flowing, air conditioning humming and maintain the operations of the food pantry in order to help those who find themselves in need to feed themselves and their family. Beyond these things, there is per capita paid to support the operations of the local, regional and nation church operations, flowers to honor a loved one or celebrate an anniversary--and the list could go on. We are encouraged that expenses for the year are slightly under budget, so the Session has been doing a good job watching spending. With this in mind, we would greatly appreciate if you could check to make sure you are up-to-date on your planned giving for the year. If you feel called to give any extra, this would help to fund the Faith Giving/Capitol Campaign category that was included in our budget. You can denote such a gift as "Faith Giving". Church groups will be working on projects to help raise this money, but your support will make this job a lot easier. Finally, please consider contributing the Per Capita for your family, which is currently $36/member. Your help is critical and we are grateful for your keeping Covenant and our church family in your thoughts and prayers. If you re going to be out of town, remember that you can maintain your giving online, via check payable to Covenant or through cash gifts. We are grateful for your partnership in ministry!

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, please bring a side dish to share. We will begin our study of Horizons Bible Study. Who is Jesus? What a Difference a Lens Makes in the fall. All women are invited to join our group. Evening Circle Morning Circle will meet on Wednesday, June 20 at Covenant at 10:15 AM. Then we will head to Shindigs in Winfield for lunch. Evening Circle will meet on Monday, June 18, for Bible Study and fellowship beginning at 7:00 pm at the church. The hostess is Linda Newland and Study Leader is Margaret Newland.
