Reverend Juan Carlos Marín Cortés My name is Juan Carlos Marín Cortés. I was born on the Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19, 1982, in Pereira, Colombia. My parents are Luis Ovidio Marín and Myrian Cortés. I am the oldest of three children. My younger brother is David, 32; and my younger sister is Juliana, 21. It was a great blessing to be bap zed on the memorial of St. Joseph the Worker on May 1, 1982, in the Catholic Church. Li le did I know the silent intercession and guidance of St. Joseph in my life. I grew up in a Catholic family and went to Catholic schools. I studied Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá. I entered the Redemptoris Mater Seminary of the Diocese of Dallas in January I was ordained as a missionary priest of the Diocese of Dallas on the feast of the Visita on of the Blessed Virgin Mary on May 31, I am very happy to be a parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Church to serve the people of Richardson and Garland. So far I have spoken about myself, but I have to give glory to the Lord for His plan of love in my life. Thanks to one of the new reali es that the Holy Spirit has inspired in the Catholic Church, the Neocatechumenal Way, I am discovering, li le by li le, the immense richness of the gi I received on my Bap sm. In the Neocatechumenal Way, I have discovered that faith is real; and that it is possible to have a rela onship with the Risen Lord in the Church. I am not alone in my journey of faith because the Lord has given me both a community in Bogota, Colombia and in Waxahachie, Texas where I have experienced that love in the dimension on the cross and through unity, both signs of faith. Par cipa ng in retreats and different ac vi es organized by ACTS has let me witness that the Lord is ac ng in people s lives and bringing them closer to the Church. Through ACTS, I have seen how the Holy Spirit acts in different ways and rises charisms for the growth of the people of God.

Pope Francis, 9/16/13 The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Ci zenship, our teaching document on the poli cal responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and du es as par cipants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respec ul public dialogue; and to shape poli cal choices in the coming elec on in light of Catholic teaching. The statement li s up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American ci zens with rights and du es as par cipants in the civil order. First and foremost, however, we remember that we relate to the civil order as ci zens of the heavenly Kingdom, whose reign is not yet fully realized on earth but demands our unqualified allegiance. It is as ci zens faithful to the Lord Jesus that we contribute most effec vely to the civil order. This document consists mainly of the statement adopted overwhelmingly by the bishops in 2007, plus certain limited revisions by way of update. In par cular, this version draws on the wealth of papal teaching since the 2007 version of Faithful Ci zenship, such as the later magisterium of Pope Benedict XVI and that of Pope Francis to date. From these great teachings we discern, for example, messages to the universal Church to a end in a special way: to the inextricable link between our witness to the truth and our service to those in need (Caritas in Veritate); to our role as missionary disciples, called forth from the sanctuary to bring Christ to the margins with joy (Evangelii Gaudium); and to the care for our common home and all who dwell in it, especially the poorest (Laudato Si'). The document is also updated to take account of recent developments in the U.S.in both domes c and foreign policy: The ongoing destruc on of over one million innocent human lives each year by abor on Physician assisted suicide The redefini on of marriage the vital cell of society by the courts, poli cal bodies, and increasingly by American culture itself The excessive consump on of material goods and the destruc on of natural resources, which harm both the environment and the poor The deadly a acks on fellow Chris ans and religious minori es throughout the world The narrowing redefini on of religious freedom, which threatens both individual conscience and the freedom of the Church to serve Economic policies that fail to priori ze the poor, at home or abroad; A broken immigra on system and a worldwide refugee crisis Wars, terror, and violence that threaten every aspect of human life and dignity All of these threats, and more, speak to a breakdown in what Pope Francis has called an "integral ecology" (Laudato Si', nos ). Without the proper ordering of rela onships of persons with each other, with crea on, and ul mately with God himself, sin takes hold. Pope Francis reminds us that all individuals, na ons, and members of the global community have the duty to place the needs of others ahead of selfish desires to possess and exploit the good things that come from God's hand. This document is to be read prayerfully and in its totality. It would be a serious mistake and one that occurs with regre able frequency to use only selected parts of the Church's teaching to advance par san poli cal interests or validate ideological biases. All of us are called to be servants to the whole truth in authen c love, and it is our fervent hope and prayer that this document will provide aid to all those seeking to heed this call. Finally, while this document is about the civil order, we cannot fail to call the faithful to prayer. The struggles that we face as a na on and as a global community cannot be addressed solely by choosing the "best candidate" for poli cal office. No, in addi on to forming our consciences, we must fast and pray, asking our loving and gracious God to give us the ability to effec vely proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our daily witness to our faith and its teachings. Let us all take to heart the urgency of our voca on to live in the service to others through the grace of Christ and ask humbly in prayer for an outpouring of the grace of the Holy Spirit on the United States of America. *From the US Conference of Catholic Bishops website. We propose to do so by offering an opportunity to simply come together to share the word and invoke the Holy Spirit to guide our discussion and open our hearts to the grace needed to form inten onal disciples among our community. Emmaus is the name chosen for the group as it evokes a walk with Jesus. A spiritual awakening as the disciples (we) recognize the Lord in our midst and become closer and in mate with him. He has come to the help of His servant Israel, for He has remembered His promise of mercy, the promise He made to our fathers, to Abraham and His children for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

To follow the Vision of ACTS Missions: Through the retreats, ACTS provides a spark that ignites Catholics world wide with the eternal flame of the Holy Spirit. As an instrument of God, ACTS is a light that will help bring about the New Evangeliza on by fostering love and the true discipleship, leading others to a commitment and obedience to Our Lord, Jesus Christ, by our every word, ac on and thought. In addi on to suppor ng the retreat process, the ACTS parish chapter s second purpose is to focus on spiritual development, service orienta on and on going community building among those who have a ended ACTS retreats. Among other things, this mission is con nued and enhanced by scheduled gatherings of the ACTS community. SJCC ACTS Core Seeks Nomina ons for 2017 Core Team St. Joseph Catholic Church (SJCC) ACTS Core team is seeking nomina ons from our ACTS community for Core member replacements for Calendar Year Two men and two women will be selected from the ACTS community to begin serving a 3 year term beginning January 1, Eligibility criteria for serving on the SJCC ACTS Core: Must be a prac cing Catholic, in good standing with the Catholic Church, and registered parishioner of the parish; Commi ed to the building of the ACTS community within the parish and to the ACTS Core as a ministry; Must have been a retreatant on an adult ACTS retreat, served on an adult ACTS team, and displayed leadership abili es with a servant s heart; and Any new member may not be a spouse or an immediate family member of a present Core member. JOSEPH ACTS Core Charter *These excerpts are intended to inform all of the Charter that governs the St. Joseph ACTS Core Group and the Community RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CORE The Core is responsible for the decisions governing the ACTS Ministry within the parish in keeping with the direc ves, guidelines and provisions of this Charter and of ACTS Missions. Their main responsibili es are: Assume responsibility for staffing each of the Core administra ve roles. Facilitate the selec on of the Director of each retreat sponsored by the parish. Serve as a source for advice, counsel and procedures for retreat directors. Uphold the integrity of ACTS by ensuring the ACTS retreats are held consistent with the descrip on and direc ves set forth in the ACTS Missions Director s Manual and the Spiritually Essen al elements document included within. It is recommended to have Core keep an open line of communica on with the Director and the retreat team, and each retreat Director must sign the Yes agreement and a end the Leadership Workshop. Ensure the success of ACTS by providing and promo ng opportuni es for faith sharing groups, evangeliza on, community service, and other faith enriching events. Each night of the week will have a different ac vity. We will have something for everyone. The celebra on will start with the St. Joseph Annual Family Fun Run on Saturday, October 15. This will be a 5K run that will take place at Breckinridge Park in Richardson. Friday, October 21, is the All You Can eat Spaghe dinner with dessert and bingo night.
