Actionable Faith for Today s World A Study of The Book of Romans Led by Russ Hensel and Jay Eibner in Fellowship Hall Come join us as we explore, discover and discuss the implications of Paul s letter to the followers of Jesus Christ in Rome. Romans is placed first among the New Testament epistles, and for good reason. According to the Wilkinson and Boa Bible Handbook, While the four gospels present the words and works of Jesus Christ, Romans explores the significance of his sacrificial death. Using a question-and-answer format, Paul records the most systematic presentation of doctrine in the Bible. But Romans is much more than a book of theology; it is also a book of practical exhortations. The good news of Jesus Christ is more than facts to be believed; it is also a life to be lived a life of righteousness befitting the person justified freely by His [God s] grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. The theme of Romans is found in chapter 1 verses 16-17: God offers the gift of His righteousness to everyone who comes to Christ by faith. But what is righteousness? In Romans, Paul also helps us to understand what righteous living should look like in our everyday lives. As we study, we ll discover important concepts that will help us put our faith into action and improve our relationships, not only with God, but with family, friends, neighbors, strangers, and those in authority. Jesus the Game Changer Led by Chuck and Jan Wormington, Suzy Moore, Sue Dunswell, and Bob Flanagan in the Parlor Jesus Christ has made an indelible mark on human history, and he continues to do so through his followers. Yet many people do not realize that the values western democracies are built on originate in the life and teaching of Jesus the equality of all, servant leadership, care for the poor, treatment of women and children, reason and science, to name just a few. In this series, host Karl Faase travels to the UK, USA, Singapore, India, and Australia, interviewing authors, academics and modern-day game changers about how the life and teaching of Jesus changed the world and why it matters. After the video, the discussion will be led by a team of teachers.

6 Deacons Sponsor October Blitz - Cold season is coming and the 55 homeless men living at Whosoever Gospel Mission will have a great need for cold medicine. The Deacons will be in the Narthex before and after Sunday services during October collecting such medications (generic brands OK; watch for sales now).there will be no standalone collection box. For safety purposes, all medication must be handed to a deacon in person. Pills, capsules and soft-gels only, no liquids. Daytime and/or nighttime OK, needed for cold & flu, and cough, chest or sinus congestion. Cough drops are also needed. Thank you for your generosity. Whosoever Gospel Mission Please see the information in today s bulletin. We have learned that Whosoever Gospel Mission is experiencing a significant funding shortfall for their fiscal year ending 09/30/2018, primarily due to the loss of a large grant ($86,500), they were expecting. There is currently a matching contribution program available to Supplee Church members and their friends for donations made between now and September 26, 2018, matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to Whosoever Gospel Mission and either place your donation in the offering plate or give your donation to Adrienne in the church office. These donations will then be forwarded to Whosoever Gospel Mission. If you d like to know more about the mission and its ministry, please contact Jay Eibner or visit Prayer Shawls This is another important ministry of Supplee s Deacons. If anyone would like a prayer shawl to give to someone in need, or if you are willing to make one, please contact Toni Hagendorf at
