5 P AGE 5 CARILLON MUSIC NOTES by Chris McManus Thank you to all of our King Avenue musicians who filled the church and community with the sounds of the season throughout Advent and Christmas. Our choirs gave extra time and talent to present the Service of Lessons and Carols. We were pleased to once again host our friends in the Columbus Gay Men s Chorus for their annual Joy! concerts. Guest instrumentalists lent their voices to the celebrations as well. As always, our talented music staff Andrew, Jeff, Iris, Joe, Robin led with enthusiasm and dedication. It s an honor to be in ministry in this place! Looking ahead, the Chancel Choir will be working earnestly to prepare for our April 28, 2013 presentation of the Mozart Requiem. The concert will be at 3pm in our sanctuary. Be sure to put the date on the calendar. Finally, the New Year is a great time to consider joining one of our music ensembles. If you have a talent to share, be sure to contact me about the possibilit i e s, cmcmanus@earthlink.net or (614) ext INFANT, TODDLER, AND PRESCHOOL GROUP by Robbi Spanoudis We hope everyone with children under four will take a minute to drop by the Infant, Toddler and Preschool Meet and Greet January 13th at 10am in the Fireside Room. There will be refreshments and an opportunity to meet one another, learn about the ITP Group, the nursery and the many resources King Ave UMC has available for families. There will be a Small Group for Parents of Young Children March 20th April 24th as part of the 2nd session of the Winter Wednesdays, Amanda Lee and Robbi Spanoudis will be leading the group. Dinner is provided for the whole family and during the group you may keep your child with you or childcare is available in the nursery. Have you heard about the Meal Train Ministry to families with new babies? We have been blessed to welcome many new babies here at King Ave. UMC! Volunteers have prepared and delivered meals to 6 families so far to help! We are using the Mealtrain W e b s i t e, h t t p : / / to organize the meals. We are in need of more volunteers for this ministry to prepare and deliver meals. To busy to cook? Gift cards, Deli, Carryout items are also welcome to make the transition with a new little one easier. Have questions or want to become involved? Please contact, Robbi Spanoudis robbibeagle@gmail.com.

6 CARILLON P AGE 6 UNITED METHODIST WOMEN by Evy Hummon All King Avenue women are invited to The United Methodist Women's Retreat on Saturday, January 19, 9:30am 2:30pm, in King Avenue s Donnenwirth Lounge. The Rev. L. Cean Wilson will led the retreat, Poor, Young, and Pregnant: Mary's Advent. The real Christmas miracle is that a healthy baby and mother emerged from that stable! As United Methodist Women, we claim and celebrate our mission to caring for women, children, and youth through Healthy Families on a Healthy Planet. We will be putting together birthing kits and health kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). We ask attendees make $5 donation to offset food cost. Please make reservations thru Evy Hummon via at evymay3@aol.com. RUMMAGE AND RESOLUTIONS by Marge Horrocks Soon the new year will be upon us and many of us will no doubt think about a New Year's Resolution that we are really going to keep this time. May I offer one for all of us who support the rummage sale in one way or another? It involves no dieting or extreme exercise so maybe we can do it. "I promise for 2013 to keep my closets, attic, basement, and garage free of unwanted or unused items and bring such items to the church on a monthly or quarterly basis to assist the May and October Rummage Sales that assist The United Methodist Women in their raising of money for missions." This can be done on our usual collection schedule of Sundays after each worship service or on Wednesdays from 6 7:30pm. This will begin on January 6. Hope you take the challenge and create two superspectacular sales and keep us busy, busy, busy! NEW LIFE by Kathy Durfee Although Advent and Christmas are behind us I want to comment on the successful Make & Take that New Life orchestrated for about 20 of the kids who attend. There were about eight stations where the kids could make a gift to take home for their family members. Each gift then was wrapped for each child. The kids were so proud of these gifts! Next year if you are looking for something to do to get you into the Christmas spirit, I d recommend volunteering for this event. Cough drops are always in demand. Warm stuff like gloves, chemical hand warmers, and thermals will be appreciated. As always doctors and nurses are needed.

7 P AGE 7 CARILLON SPECTRUM by Judy Callander We welcome new Spectrum leaders, Kim Doran and Jon Zornes! Euchre Night is coming up on Friday, January 18 from 6:30-9:00pm in Fellowship Hall. Pizza and pop will be provided. Childcare for children ages 6 and younger will be available. Please contact Judy Callander by Friday, January 11 at judith.callander@sbcglobal.net, if you would like to take advantage of the childcare service. On January 23 at 6:45pm, a book reading and discussion group, facilitated by Cean Wilson, will meet for the first time. In the book, In from the Wilderness, author David E. Weekly, writes about his life as a transgendered FTM United Methodist minister. Discussions will include the exploration of how Christianity relates to gender identity. Being in the safe environment of your book study group will enable you to ask questions you may have been afraid to ask in the past. You can purchase a copy of the book at the church in January. NNEMAP by Anne Nelson Thank you King Avenue for once again supporting NNE- MAP S two vital fund raising events and the grooming kit project. Our church was well represented at the Harmony for Hunger concert held at Church of the Master UMC in Westerville. Derek Mortland entertained us with his intriguing guitar and Chris Bradley was Master of Ceremonies. Ticket sales, silent auction and Macy s shopping spree raffle will cover the pantry s administrative costs for a month. The Fresh Fragrant Fraser Fir Tree Sale was once again a success and will keep the pantry operating for an addi- tional month. Our church members will have their halls decked out with fragrance from the Grayson Highlands with trees, wreaths and garland. We are the most supportive of the sale. Next year we must have our order in earlier so start thinking Christmas in August! The youth group from King Avenue joined other groups at the pantry on Sunday, December 2 and assembled 1500 grooming kits. Our neighbors at the pantry appreciate the kits and we appreciate the deodorant you supplied over 300! Pantry Needs Pop-top cans of meat and stew for the homeless kits Baby food and Diapers Feminine hygiene products
