1 MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE Neland Avenue Christian Reformed Church April 13, 2017 On this Maundy Thursday evening, we gather as sisters and brothers in Christ around the table of our Lord to sing and pray, to remember and believe. We feel the weight of our deadly sin on Jesus, as we hear and reflect on his seven last words from the cross. Prelude Song: Ah, Holy Jesus 172:1,2 Ah, holy Jesus, how have you offended, that mortal judgment has on you descended? By foes derided, by you own rejected, O most afflicted. Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon you? It was my treason, Lord, that has undone you. Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied you; I crucified you. 3 It was my sin that left him there Until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished. I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom. But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom. The Lord s Supper In a world of broken promises, remember what Christ did. The work he did on Calvary would make us whole again. The promise that he made goes beyond our earthly days. His life and death have made our way for all eternity. Break now the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, as once you broke the loaves beside the sea. Beyond the sacred page I seek you, Lord; my spirit waits for you, O Living Word. Invitation and Institution Celebrating the Feast We will come forward in groups to be served communion. You will be ushered forward. You will pass the bread to one another with the words, The body of Christ for you. The elders will pass the cup to you with the words, The blood of Christ for you.
